Hirst was being reported at 4m and then was 1.5m. Frimley posted an overview on what Championship clubs have spent. Beyond a few clubs, most haven't spent much.

Arsenal brought him for £1.8 plus add ons, with the aim to make a profit on him, so definitely will be more than that

There are a number of clubs interested in him which will inevitably drive the price up. How much is the question!

Do they have money to burn? They posted a loss of £24m in the 2021/22 season, with revenue of £17.5m and wages of £31m. Without something dramatic having occurred in 22/23(?), they will have little/no money available for transfer fees.

They've had a massive recent investment to the club (on a scale never before seen in the Championship).

The investment doesn't constitute revenue, however. They can spend to their hearts' content on infrastructure but not on the pitch, otherwise they will see sanctions soon. Cloaking investment under sponsorship/advertising revenue is becoming more difficult, with the EFL alert to these tactics. Championship clubs are bound together by these loss caps and wages are too high at the majority of them, such that there's little/no money left for transfer fees. Birmingham's wages in 21/22 exceeded total revenue by £13m, which is the upper annual loss limit already maxed out. Billionaires can happily cover these losses but they can't erase them from the accounts.

Indeed I have read Rangers are very keen and have tabled a bid of 3mill ? Obviously this might just be speculation.

Cheers! I thought their spending was odd this summer, even if they have just reinvested the Jobe and Chong transfer fees. They will need to have rectified the wage bill since 21/22 still, for the Jude windfall to stretch much further than it already has. Astonishingly, they even lost £5m in the 20/21 season when they sold him for £30m+.
