Everybody in and around Bury - I went to sixth form there - calls it "Bury", or occasionally "BSE" (that became unfortunate later). Almost nobody uses the full name.
Besides which, you try getting a a football chant to scan with that many syllables.

"And it Bury St Edmunds, Bury St Edmunds FC, we the finest football team etc etc "
That fits but is obviously wildly inaccurate as that is Ipswich Town what is the finest football team the world will ever see
"You're going home in a Bury St Edmunds ambulance" doesn't git quite so well and obviously with the Tories in power there arent any spare ambulances available to provide that service

I used to go to Bury quite a bit in the mid 90s. There was a little group of fans, led by a bald guy with glasses, who used to sing and were great fun. They had a few standards, 'Bury Town (repeat) is wonderful (repeat), its full of sugar beet and Greene King...' and a tribute to the striker Kevin Lane to the tune of Penny Lane.

Facters is little more than a child - although I admit it depends where you're looking from.
Is this a discussion about behaviour or age?
No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

There's definitely a Bury in Lancashire. Perhaps they are Bury Town ?
They were just Bury, but sadly folded a couple of years ago. Believe that they are reforming as AFC Bury next season. Not sure what level in the pyramid they'll be in though.

Here’s the latest on what the good folks of Bury are trying to achieve -
