VAR what’s the point on 09:23 - Dec 2 with 705 views | Ewan_Oozami | The thing that might be confusing people is that in Tennis, it's where the ball touches the ground that determines whether the ball is in or out. So a tennis ball could still have some part of the ball over the line, but no part of the ball touching the line, and Hawkeye would call it out. Obviously different dynamics to football because you have to determine whether the ball is over the line or not when the ball is in the air, so you can't use the touching the ground bit. What is confusing though is having to see whether a mainly white ball is over a white line or not!

Hawkeye uses the radius of the ball to calculate its footprint... not the physical footprint.

Also unlike street parking in metered bays, where I was reliably (?) informed by one traffic warden that the determining factor is where your wheels are actually touching the ground - if they're within or on the white marker lines that's fine; any "overhang" by them or rest of the vehicle doesn't matter or count. Yeah I know, two completely different things, but sometimes human beings do seem to unnecessarily complicate life.

VAR what’s the point on 12:11 - Dec 2 with 595 views | pafcprogs | As I have just posted on the Argyle site... if you look at the picture from the camera feed that is in. if you look at the picture from the Germany game at the end, that is out.
VAR what’s the point on 12:25 - Dec 2 with 556 views | Trequartista | There was green grass between the ball and the white line from eye-level view but the whole of the ball wasn't over the line from birds-eye view (which is obviously a possible scenario with a sphere). So I guess that's not out of play. But that throws up an interesting conundrum. How can a correct decision be made in a normal football match without the referee and assistant referees using a jet pac to analyse if a ball has gone out from an aerial view? If the officials see green grass between ball and line that's all they have to go on, and its potentially wrong.
