Our first 9 managers were in post from 1937 to 2002, a smidgen short of 65 years. Our next appointment will be the 9th of the next batch, and he will start some 19 years after the first.

I think the decision to replace Cook is the right one. I just hope the next appointment is in position for a number of years, providing the consistent leadership we surely need.

That is more a reflection of the changing nature of football.

Plus there's six years of wartime in that first section. Even then, some of the managers didn't last long (e.g. Milburn)

It's worth pointing out 4 of them were in the 60s, when the club took action to improve things. 3 of those managers left under their own terms admittedly... Albeit one 14 years later.
