Defending is not our problem 11:19 - Feb 24 with 813 viewsPinewoodblue

The one statistic that explains why we are not currently sitting in an automatic promotion place is that we have failed to score in SEVEN, out of 16, home games.

I see very little evidence of Lambert doing anything significant to try and correct this.

We have four attacking player in on loan. Just one decent striker, with a goal scoring record, is all we need. None of those we have loaned in fit the bill.

Football wise this is Lambert’s biggest failing and why, even if we gain promotion, he has to go.

Alienating a striker who scored 11 goals last season is another piece of managerial genius.

I thought Parrott and Bennetts both showed exactly what they can offer yesterday, just lacking a bit of composure but to have Jackson on the bench would have been ideal.

I've said it before, this system just doesn't work without Norwood. He is by far our best striker, and he brings this whole system together and offers genuine threat. We have mismanaged him horrifically this season with his injuries so let's hope that is behind him now.

It is and it isn't - traditional defending, maybe not - but we typically tend to give the ball away needlessly in advanced positions - although improving of late it seems.

Only four teams have conceded less goals than us.

However, at the other end, only four teams have scored less than us.

Our main issue is creating chances, we have players in the squad that are more than capable of putting the ball in the back of the net, we just don't seem capable of creating chances.

Side note - Blackpool are in both lists.

We are not converting enough of the chances created.

Mick had exactly the same problem between Muph and Waghorn. But at least he had Lawrence who just scraped into double figures to spare his blushes. Otherwise Sears would have been top scorer, which is never going to be a good sign.

I just watched the highlights. Our defence could have given them at least 4 goals! We were VERY lucky, especially when Dozzell almost gave away that dead cert and they missed. We'd get eaten alive in the Champ.

The last two games with Norwood playing we've utilised an entirely different system though. He's not looked all that great when playing on his own in a 4-3-3.

Not sure on that. We just don't really create. We go whole games without carving out what might be called a genuine goalscoring opportunity. It's so dull.

We are apparently averaging 10 shots a game. We are scoring 1.

Read somewhere that Judge and Huws average more shots a game than Norwood. He alone is not the answer.

Shots and genuine chances aren't the same thing. And 10 shots a game is actually not that many, I expect it's amongst the lowest in the division. Chance creation is definitely more of an issue than conversion I'd say.
