Haha ... can’t imagine spruce calling me ‘sir’!

At the expense of closing theatres, outpatient clinics, etc, etc. On top of that, nearly all elective work is again, cancelled for the foreseeable, with staff from those areas redeployed. The final issue is, that beds in NHS hospitals have been steadily failing for 30 years now. [Post edited 2 Jan 2021 12:25]

The amount of beds now available is falling every year so that would explain the numbers. The fact we are so overstretched is not due to number of patients but government cuts which we all know. Plus I read that any particular day there is up to 60,000 NHS staff either furloughed, isolating, on leave or sick which stretches things further.

As long as people want cheap beer and cheap shots to get absolutely wasted then it’ll never go under. In my younger days I used to go to the ‘Golden Lion’ and get quite drunk so I suppose it’s hypocrisy on my part to dislike ‘spoons now.

It's only ever been about stopping the NHS from failing and understandably that is the right and only stance to take. My mum is currently in Ipswich Hospital with Covid and she's 90 with heart failure and diabetes so was expecting the worst, but thankfully she was taken off oxygen today and looked good on Face Time today. I agree with the lack of diversity in the Govt.... of course an Oxford University education makes them all fit for government - I think in future, we should stop those people being anywhere near high office based on this lot. And I guess Wetherspoons appeals to some, but never been my choice - except the Red Lion at Gatwick which is just convenient!

I'm not sure it would make any difference - they'd have to be acting in good faith for it to change anything. I'd be amazed if they actually believe the stuff they write. It's just a big game to them. If anything they'd take something completely out-of-context to "prove" their regular points. "I only saw sick people there. If you're healthy its nothing to worry about" | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It may be pedantic but It's a valid point. Companies often have more resources and brand awareness/loyalty to help spread the message further than an individual could. At the same time they have far fewer responsibilities and legal remedies against them than an individual would. Seems right that they'd be treated differently, and restricting corporate free speech is far less of a concern than repressing individual free speech IMHO.
