Well, as the EU has put a load of money into it's R&D that would be understandable wouldn't it?

& I suspect it will depend on available quantities

Luckily we signed a medical agreement with the EU in 2014 which is active.

This won't be ready this year though. Maybe ready for a test in June/July and then have to go through the processes and then two weeks for each million doses.

Good step of course but not a silver bullet.

There is an article on today’s Mail about the race to make a killing by bring first to market a vaccine. Talks of the cost bring one £400 a shot.

A friend told me earlier this week that there is research also bring undertaken in the Cambridge area, he wouldn’t be more specific, and that British companies are in the running.

Of course the fact that there is so much money at stake here and a 'race' to be the first to develop a vaccine should set off alarm bells regarding the potential safety and efficacy of a covid-19 vaccine. I have already seen one article suggesting that certain short cuts are being taken around safety testing on animals.

People would do well to remember the H1N1 ( swine flu ) vaccine in 2009 which was approved despite insufficient clinical trials and resulted in narcolepsy for some of the unfortunate recipients.

A vaccine that is proven to work and be safe would of course be a great weapon in the fight against covid-19 but the timescale for achieving this with most vaccines is usually several years, not months, and even then they all carry potential side effects. People should not see this a silver bullet.

A vaccine is being tested by Cambridge University on mice which is showing positive signs, usually when a vaccine works on mice it will work on humans when it comes to building up immunity

That's a bold claim regarding the H1N1 vaccine and nowhere near as black and white as you're making out.

Its not a claim dear boy, it is fact. The DWP paid out vaccine injury compensation to victims. We are not talking about huge numbers of people, granted, although one of the victims sadly took her own life as a direct result of her quality of life deteriorating, so that's no consolation to her family.

I'm just saying people should apply a bit of caution before assuming the fast track development of a vaccine will solve the problem in its entirety.

Isn't it the case that when we leave the European Medicines Agency (EMA) at the end of December we'll lose Tier 1 status of access to medicines, so could be typically 6 months behind other EU countries (granted this isn't a typical period, so things may change).

The Guardian were talking about this in a piece a few days ago, based on a letter from various medical professionals highlighting problems they foresee. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/14/coronavirus-vaccine-delays-brexit-

Although I think Ursula von der Leyen mentioned that they would continue to treat the UK as a full member for the duration of the crisis. It sounds like the EU will be fairly pragmatic, so the Brexit issue may not necessarily be an issue through the worst of it.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?
