....reading an interesting article about them earlier - but would you set up a 442 and 352 using 1-11.
I'd go:

It seems now as though a '6' is seen as a central midfield role, but not for me Geoff. Without wingers the numbering system doesn't really work that well in a 352 - a midfield of 7,8 and 11 looks a bit flaky!

I don't really think it matters either way.
I think a 4, 5 or 6 can be CB numbers. It doesn't stress me out.
Am also fine with 4 or 6 in CM. |

Obviously some players have preferred numbers (Chambers with 4 here), but 6 is a centre back number, end of discussion. |

d) a-c accepted as a given, but even so, was still a central midfielder that was known as being no 7 when he was fit to play.

Like Stewart when he joined from Hudds was 27.
Darren Bent (I think?) was 18 when he broke through.
Klinsmann at Tottenham.
There are probably loads of exceptions to it but I’ve always remembered those. I always wanted #18 when I was playing! |  |
