Just seen it. I didn't catch it the first time round, but he's a true intellectual giant.

Made me search for this piece of lucid, insightful and illuminating writing

And also, going back to Pete Atikin's homepage for that website, Clive actually died at the weekend, and his death was announced today when his funeral was held.

His TV reviews in The Observer were wonderful.

And a decent lyricist and poet.

His translation of Dante's Divine Comedy is very very good. It was a book I had really struggled to get into or understand at Uni, the translations before were very dry and hard to follow. That must have taken some serious work, translating from Latin and keeping the metre and rhythm of the original into accessible, easy to read English.

I loved how he could produce the highest of highbrow culture like that as well as something like this...

'He didn't know a wah-wah
From Akira Kurosawa'

Great couple of lines.

And Little Sammy Speedball is good stuff too.

Driving Through Mythical America is the best song about the Kent State University shootings. Far better than Neil Young's Ohio.

Better than this piece of poetry by Mike Love?

A great man and a true broadcasting legend. I loved his shows on TV back in the day.

I never realised, until it was part of a talk that I was at last weekend, that the cover of 'Surf's Up' is a painting of Don Quixote.

Hope nothing gets on your wick too much in heaven by the way, Clive.
