Surely a good CB is essential.
Despite Andy Warren's cringe worthy eulogising about Chambers last night all his recent deteriation was on show. Several times he lunged and missed first balls both in the air and on the deck. Over committing because hes terrified of the chase behind. Whoever plays with him will have a big job.
Obviously a brilliant captain and his voice may warrant a starting place but he will lose us points this season.
Presumably a CF is also required. A taller, target man type would be helpful. Doubt we'll find a better one than Keane but maybe a young raw player might fit the finances better and be prepared to play 2nd fiddle.

Chambers did play well last night but the OP is correct in highlighting his weaknesses. Chambers often gambles to avoid one-on-one sprints. You have to when you’re sh1t at one-on-one sprints. |  |

He was comfortable 2nd half as were the whole team. 1st half he made lots of little mistakes but none costly. Worries me he was making them against Nouble.
I like Chambers as much as everyone else but if the ball goes over his head he doesnt even bother running for it now! Tough to carry that in any team. | | | |

I wonder if the 3rd is a keeper if Millwall come back for Bart. I’m not aware they’ve signed a second keeper after Fielding. |  |

My point, as Im sure youre aware, is that he knows he cant get there. Thats why he throws himself (sometimes recklessly) at thd 1st ball. A common trait in centre halves when their legs have gone. | | | |

Most centre half pairings will have one who attacks the ball and the other who covers/sweeps. | |

Skuse will be a massive player for us in league one.
Chambers may well be losing his legs but will still be very useful in a rotated back line. Hopefully our midfield and Norwood will take the pressure off the defence anyway. |  |

As you say it’s not uncommon for defenders who don’t have as much pace as they used to.
But it doesn’t mean their legs have gone, and doesn’t mean they can’t still defend. |  |

We need a striker and a CB. Doesn’t appear likely that PL is after a RB and we probably have cover at LB even if the new guy plays on the wing.
