The 2011/12 season was utterly bizarre 13:08 - Jun 20 with 926 viewsWarkTheWarkITFC

Having just stumbled across it again, I couldn't help noticing how completely mad that season was for us.

- Started with a 3-0 hammering of Bristol City on their own patch where Chopra looked like the next coming of Marcus Stewart

- We then lost three in a row, including a 5-2 home defeat to Southampton and a 7-1 humiliation at Peterborough in the same week

- Despite this went on an unbeaten 6 game run, where we won 4 and shot right up the table

- We then lost seven straight matches and were 2-0 down at Barnsley at half time before we somehow won 5-3 out of absolutely nowhere

- After winning the next game we went 6 without a win, losing 4 and looked completely hopeless again

- We then won four straight games, starting with beating the leaders West Ham 5-1 and won 7 out of 10 games and only losing once in that time

- We ended the season with a number of draws

We literally went from championship form to relegation form to championship form to relegation form numerous times over 5-6 game spells. Quite ridiculous really.

We were either very very good or very very bad.

I don't think it dawned on me that the 5-1 against West Ham was in the same season as the 1-7 against Peterborough.

"We were either very very good or very very bad."

Kinda like if Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was a season.

"We were either very very good or very very bad. "

Paul Jewell's managerial career in a sentence. We had two really good runs under him that season, and one the season before, yet they all ended really badly and left him looking like he had no idea how to turn it round.

I seem to remember that run of victories in January / February coincided with a number of regulars being injured and the likes of Andy Drury played.

Then as soon as the regulars were fit again, they came straight back in the side and we started losing again.

The good run in early Autumn soon ended when sides cottoned on to our new formation, which shoe-horned four central midfielders in to a diamond and subsequently combated that with tactics of their own. That was the end of that little run.
