Finished watching Band of Brothers yesterday for about the fourth time.. it really is one of the best mini series created imo. I’d love for there to be a similar series made for the British advance, not sure if if a comparably compelling story exists for the British but would be great to see.
It's probably my favourite series of all time. Always have to re-watch it at least a couple of times a year, it's brilliant.
Absolutely agree have owned the box set in DVD soon as it was released. As wanted to watch it again now have it on Blu ray which is even better picture quality. And still watch it usually on a binge.
The advance through Italy, and particularly the Battle of Monte Cassino, was horrific. The Italians surrendered so the SS regiments were sent to hold Italy as the Southern Front to Germany. Obviously they had many less qualms about wholesale destruction on foreign soil than the fight moving to Germany, so it was orders of "fight to the last man".
I knew a lovely old Brummie bloke through a Lunch Club we helped at. We used to borrow videos from the library of Pathe News from different decades. When we watched the 40's video it included the report on Monte Casino. Classic clipped tones and black and white footage of a couple of puffs of smoke from the monastery at the top of the mountain. He said he'd been an ambulance driver at Monte Cassino. He was angry that it had been trivialised, and then started crying.
He described having to drive over bodies: "We had to... We had to..."
I don't think I'll ever forget that.
About 10 years later he was in the local Post Office when two armed raiders with shotguns burst in. So he punched one of them in the face and knocked him over. He was late 80's at the time. The other one smacked him in the face with the butt of his gun and knocked him out. They don't make them like him anymore. RIP Jim.
As a person who doesn’t watch many series, Band of Brothers and The Office have been regular watches for me since their releases. An American mate of mine watched it that match he went off and joined the 101st a few years back.
Was it the same each of the four times? I don't like something to be too predictable (it's why Mick had to go!).
Never seen it, but have heard plenty sing it's praises. The only time the tv goes on in our house is for footie or when her indoors watches a trash US programme. She's currently on Suits, seems like Series 74, episode 3,518. She's away for 5 weeks now though , so I've got the thing to myself. I should give it a watch but World Cup is priority.

That was a close call! Imagine where he would be now if he'd watched "The Secret Diary of a Call Girl" instead.
I love this series but have yet to venture into the Pacific series. Probably due to the lack of UK involvement in this campaign. Is it worth watching?
Was full of anticipation for The Pacific but was nowhere near as good.. the portrayal of the characters wasn’t up to it so you didn’t really get to know them like you do in Band of Brothers. Still worth a watch but don’t set your expectations too high.
