Seen it mentioned in another thread about certain players being 'hated' by some of their own fans.

Could be tongue-in-cheek I suppose, but got me wondering - initially I thought why would anyone hate any player who pulls on the shirt and does their best for Ipswich?

Then Chopra came to mind, who probably deserves the hate he got considering how the club tried to help him, and how he mocked us. Personally, Bowyer was one player I really didn't like the idea of - but only because of the drugs and racism in his past.

Anyone else got any others?

Nigel Reo-Coker.

Thought he was too good for us - in fact he was no-where near good enough for us... even at the end of the Jewell era.

Ha, forgot about him! But you know what, I really didn't hate him - I wanted him to do well for us, it's a shame he never did.

Lee Martin for me. Not entirely sure why as it wasn't his fault we paid as much as we did and it wasn't his fault he kept getting picked but he was absolute pony and I just wasn't a fan of him.

A number of fans wanted him to fail, and a keeper will never perform if he doesnt have his fans' support.

Ian Crook.
Well named.
Tried the shirt on and didn't like it.

I actually didn't mind Lee Martin, I agree he wasn't worth the money we spent, but he seemed to care more than most of the dross we had during the blur that is Keane/Jewell times.

Whenever we had a resurgence of form he seemed to be one of the leading players.

Record amount of sending offs for the club though

Hated is perhaps too strong a word but yes I agree with Andy Marshall, as he had been a long term budgie and played so badly for us that you had to question his loyalty (ridiculous I am sure as he would surely have put his own interests first which would have involved playing well).

Lee Chapman and Mark Fish - as they both viewed ITFC as a pre-retirement pasture!

To be fair I think Fish came here hoping he was going to be good enough, at least he got to witness Sam Parkin's debut goal.

I didn't remotely hate Andy Marshall - just thought he was a rubbish keeper. BFJ quickly recognised this & got Paul Gerrard in on loan.
Like most clubs, we've always had a few players who don't seem very good. Most fans will have their pet dislikes & inwardly groan when their names are on the team sheet.

That's why we bought Sereni in a hurry. Burley saw Marshall in training and sh4t his pants.

The dislike shown towards him from a section of our "fans" had nothing to do with him being ex Norwich. John Deehan and Clive Baker never received any abuse.

Just for the record, football aside, Andy Marshall is an absolute gentleman.
I know club loyalty gets in the way, but he's a real nice chap.

Exactly - it was because he wasn't any good.

He lived a very short distance from me in the delightful IP12 area. It may come as a bit of a surprise but I always found him a pleasure to talk to. Always polite and friendly he was the total opposite to the 'media image'. Having said that, I was always lucky enough to meet up with him in the day-time ('nuff said)......
