Many of the negative comments on here are due to people wanting to believe that we are what we were 20+ years ago - a team with quality.
What we don't yet understand is the level of quality in the current squad - and we will only see this when the season starts.
I believe PL is a good manager and just being honest - not setting ridiculous expectations. |

I have faith in PL. I believe that he has the ability as a manager to deliver on his words in public.
But, we all know that it's going to be tough - there is much work to do to get ITFC back into the Championship, never mind the PL.
Forget the past - look to the future.

It's the woeful performances of the players on the pitch over the course of the season that has resulted in this outcome. Sure, the manager has to take overall responsibility - and I don't think that PL is ducking that - but we have to face the fact that we our squad is not up to Championship standard.

To be fair to PL, he has to remain positive and make positive noises - even if it is sounding a bit thin when the results are so poor. He really can't be saying we are doomed and the players are poor quality, even if he believes that - which he surely must.
He has to say something or he'll be accused of being 'defensive' or 'evasive' and so, for now, we just need to believe that he has a plan to address the issues that he sees on the pitch.
Whether the owner backs him and allows him to implement his plan... ..well we shall see.. |

What a manager says in public is not necessarily what he thinks in private. When you are trying to manage a situation like we are in you have to remain positive to the outside world and you have to support your team in public.
