Rotherham United 1-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 23:27:10

we should as usual judge it after 10 games not two, altho they are quite a set of games - Villa (went well last year), scum and Brentford at home but possibly some easier ones away, including the Derby banker.

The team can only be seen as a work in progress. anyone who thinks we are as good as Boro, Derby, Brentford, Bristol, Millwall, Leeds, PNE, Forest and Sheff U or the relegated clubs are being either very optimistic or weren't watching last season. They were all much better than us and we have not necessarily improved. I worry that the loss of so many strikers will really hurt us. we struggled last year to score and we have sold some solid Championship players and bought in players who are untried at this level.

This can only be a season of survival and growth. I think ME will give PH space and time, and we need to do the same.

Town Announce 2017/18 Season Ticket Prices
at 11:00:11

Genuinely don't get the thinking behind what the club have done. 16-23 year olds won't go to every game unless the entertainment is outstanding as there are too many other things to spend their money on. So unless the parent pays for the kids ticket it makes no difference, they'll just go to the odd game. The parent has seen a 1.5 hike and is already thoroughly sick of what he sees on the PITCH. They are gambling on there being a solid core of 11-1200 who renew whatever. Think they may get a surprise.

If they are planning a more expansive spending policy on the squad they would have started to say so, as that is the ONLY way to get supporters back. Tinkering with prices won't make a difference. I suspect they are not. So now the question is will MM walk. Without a bigger budget no one in the game will blame him if he does and he will walk into another job. If he goes and the current budget remains, I think we are relegation fodder.

McCarthy: Club Should Be Lauded
at 10:20:13

Properly managed there is no risk in Evans increasing his investment in the club as, as he always points out, he owns the debt and he is not going to make his own investment go bust. The real issue is the level of debt we have. Evans keeps it high relative to income as if we do make it into the Prem, he will get a huge windfall in redeeming debt at full price that he bought at 5-10p in the pound.

He could reduce the debt by converting to equity or paying off and leave scope for further significant investment.

We cannot compete with clubs who have lower debt like Derby or similar debt to us like Boro but a willingness to spend more. This season we are seeing the consequences.

McCarthy: Evans Doesn't Want to Do McGoldrick Deal

Don't know what you are all so worried about. We're 19th, we've scored 3 goals in 6 games and we have sold our best two players. Everything is finally coming together.

we have a decent defence now but struggle to score - 1 goal in 3 games, so this is surprising. Assume it's no cost to us or what is the point.

Symonds and Milne to Be Named Joint MDs

so all ME has done is take out a layer of management. If ME makes the decisions and these two implement them then what is Clegg getting £150k a year for?

Nothing will change as a consequence of this.

Chief Executive Clegg to Leave Town
at 11:12:16

Never thought he looked comfortable in the job - no real business or football experience and never been a front man facing off to fans, as things like the turnstyles debacle showed. However as with everything Evans this will be a money decision based on Clegg's high wages. The club will be run more like a member of the ME group. ME will not become the new public face CEO.

What is unclear is whether the mistakes of the last four years were Clegg's or ME's. I suspect both, as ME could always have overruled Clegg.

Will things be better run now? Only if ME has learnt some serious lessons over the last five years.

Just what we need, rich top player wanting a crack at management. Hardly any prior experience. Would make the Roy Keane years look like heaven.

Jewell: Long-Term Approach Not Abandoned

Impassioned defence from PJ - he doesn't shrink from the challenge I'll give him that. He knows he's got 5 games to sort it then we're looking at a new manager. I hope he does it, for Town's sake more than his.

out of th efirst two squads only two went on to the Prem as first team players (CW not yet there) and none of those came from the youth team. Pass the hemlock.

Comparing Three Ipswich Squads - 2007, 2010 and Present
at 09:52:53

Interesting, if rather depressing. Just shows how over 5 years we have failed to buld a consistent squad. The entire first team squad chnaged 2007-2010 and again (apart from Edwards and Scotland) in the next three years. Says it all really.

What is consitent is the lack of two good CBs at any one time, the lack of a midfielder who can use the ball creatively, like a Magilton and a high scoring midfiileder (Tommy Millar had lost it by 2007).

Town Topic: Are Town Fans Overreacting to Bad Start?
at 18:30:07

Wouldn't a better question be:

Are Ipswich fans overreacting to 11 years of Championship football, with no prospect of promotion and 5 seasons without getting near the play offs, whilst clubs of a similar or lesser size and fan base like Swansea, Blackpool, Norwich, Middlesboro, Wolves, Hull and Stoke are able to build promotion challenging squads on similar turnover whilst the management of the club, when they do deign to address the fans who pay their wages/loan stock interest payments, witter on, like Nero with Rome burning around them, about how nice the newly painted turnstiles look when what we would like to hear is that they take responsibility for this shambles and don't just look to hide behind the financial fair play rules (that come into effect in two years anyway) when trying to explain the failure to secure badly needed replacements of players let go on a Bosman oh and by the way why have we only got two centre backs, one of whom got a proper canning off Sigurdarson on Wednesday night and who the hell was he marking anyway when he conceded the own goal?

Although I admit this is a bit of a leading question and most people would have given up reading before getting to the end and gone back to trawling the net for pictures of Kate Middleton without her top on.

oh, and the sound system in the bars is inaudible. The little show thye do with steve pearce is OK but you can't hear it so is a waste ot time. Maybe if Clegg and Evans sat in the north (SBR) or other stands just once they woud understand.

Town Topic: What Could Improve Matchdays at Portman Road?
at 23:18:15

Marcus evans is a sport promo compnay partly so maybe they should take a look at FPR. It's awful. Leaving aside the football, the "experience" is woeful. The bars are shabby and overpriced (£2 for a water!). There are never enough staff and they are hopelessly inexperienced. The feel is off desire to rip off the fans, not make it a good place to come.

The "entertainment" is a joke. Bluey and Crazee are realy well meaning and nice but surely we can be more imaginative than that.

The feel should be inclusive and partisan - fans doing things on the pitch like penalties at half time and maybe a competition of the music to play. The feel is the club don't give a toss.

Agree on the price (but hard to chnage without ripping off the season ticket holders). The idea I really like is the bar for all fans in the centre spot or simialr for before the game. We are the club, include us and trust us.

Jewell: Same Old Story
at 00:37:28

Haven't posted for a while but here is my take.

PJ did not become a bad manager overnight. His buys have been poor, but I am surprised there is not more criticism focused on ME. We were promised a revolution by ME, but all that seems to have involved is cost cutting in the staff and no serious ambiiton. We have sold players for a lot of money and not used that to reinvest in the squad (Rhodes and Whickham as a front line, anyone). A couple of signing s of 1-2 million and loan players is not competitive in a league where clubs are prepapred to spend significantly on success. Look at Leicseter, Boro, WHU. I think PJ wanted Coppinger amd Sharp in the summer and MR wouldn't bankroll it Yes it was more than they were wortth - but we are meant to be a club with reources and ambition and success means taking risks.

I genuinly think we wil be relegated this year, because we lack the will to fight and ME and Clegg are out of their depth. I have watched all home games this year and have not seen such a shambles since I started watcing in 74. Don't know what to tell my kids, 6 and 11, who go to the games.

What a mess. What a shamnbles. The owners, staff and players should hang their heads in shame.

Wickham Sunderland Move Confirmed
at 15:09:23

I know its business and all that, but feel deflated. CW was starting to stand out in the team in the way Bent and Dyer did in the time they were with us. The team really does need major additions, as many of you have pointed out, just to stay mid-table competitive in one of the highest quality C'ships for years. For several seasons we have looked short of pace, strength and inventiveness in midfield and attack. The differecne CW brought was his considerable strength and coolness in front of goal - most goals post Christmas from a Town player since Bent, according to TWTD.
I guess the real disappointment is that after all the hype about ME and his big plans for us, nothing has changed. Would QPR have sold if they had been in a similar position last season? Would WBA/B'Ham the year before?
