Prefer to be promoted Tuesday or Saturday..

Obviously asap. But if you could guarantee it, 4 points from these 2 games and knowing a point at home to Huddersfield sees us promoted would be excellent. Securing it at PR.

So, Norwich and WBA for the wins today?
at 11:21 27 Apr 2024

They aren't going to just give up though are they? They will throw the kitchen sink at it. Beat us 4-0 (like QPR beat Leeds last night) and a 4 goal swing on the final day is hardly huge. Remember Bristol Rovers winning 8-0 on the final day a couple of seasons ago to get promotion from L2!

Hull wouldn't actually be fully out of it. They would just need to over come a sizeable goals swing. Makes them more cavalier/gung ho if anything.

Does that result tonight take the pressure off

If Norwich and WBA win, they are still in it just with a fairly inferior goal difference. They'd have to try and make up 8/9 goals and would have nothing to lose throwing everything at us. Absolutely ideal as far as I am concerned.

I'm not expecting that at all. It isn't going to be easy. But we should be far fresher than them for a start which will count for something as the game goes on. Also think that Hull needing to be all out and a bit cavalier from the start will benefit us.

Hull haven't beaten any of the top 9 at home this season.

Leeds have very little capability to provide any of those twists though. It was in our hands before last night, but it's now in our hands with only the need for a modest return! We don't even need 2 points per game to go up. Mad.

I don't want to get too ahead of myself but struggling not to!

De Zerbi's stock is really starting to fall isn't it? Which is probably good news for us.

He's done incredibly well and I really like his background and coaching pedigree with Munich/German national team. I thought he was really tactically naive at PR though and McKenna totally outclassed him. Expect he's learned from that.

Hull game.
at 10:27 26 Apr 2024

Be interesting to see how we approach it. Hull could really have to approach the game from the start like a boxer in the 10th round who is a few points behind whereas we can afford to be a bit more methodical and wait for our moment. They won't be fancying themselves to finish the last 20-25 minutes stronger than us. We will have the legs and freshness.

Regardless of what happens in the West Brom and Norwich games, Hull are going to be throwing the kitchen sink at it anyway. Rosenior isn't going to suddenly change his game plan 3 hours before kick off.

A blessing in disguise?
at 15:17 23 Apr 2024

Well Davis has provided 17 (seventeen) assists this season. Most of these in really tight games we have won by a solitary goal. So I wouldn't take it for granted. Also don't take for granted the quality of a couple of the loanees we have that will go back at the end of the season. McKenna is also getting a lot more than the sum of its parts out of this team right now.

It's hard for me to envisage us being on 89 points after 43 games again this time next season to be honest.

It's not really any different now to how it was 24 years ago when we last got promoted is it? You've got a small group of 3/4 teams that are realistically going to win it barring a miracle. Over the last couple of seasons we've seen established forces like Man Utd and Chelsea being reeled in by the likes of Newcastle and Villa (two teams we played in the Championship not long ago). West Ham came down to the Championship relatively recently and won a European competition last season.

We pulled a truly remarkable season out in 2000/01 but that wasn't remotely the norm. Man City and Bradford who we got promoted with both came straight back down with 34 and 26 points respectively.

You've got about 12 teams that are probably a few bad decisions away from relegation but it's always been thus. And no team has a right to be able to compete in the PL season in, season out.

Can add Wolves, Fulham and Bournemouth to that list too. If you get your recruitment right, have a decent manager and are a well run club then you have every chance.

Win at Hull and suddenly things will swing back in our favour
at 07:16 23 Apr 2024

If Leeds are 4 points ahead of us, we would still be a point behind (with a worse goal difference) even if we beat Hull. We'd have to beat Coventry to go into the final day with it in our hands.

Do we want a Southampton win tomorrow now then?
at 07:14 23 Apr 2024

True to a point but it goes without saying that you'd rather need 6 or 7 points than 9 points from 3 games. And them losing changes the pressure dynamic going into the Preston game, particularly if we beat Hull before they play that game. If Leicester win all their remaining games then we can't catch them so losing tonight is obviously the best outcome.

Boro absolutely played into Leeds hands last night. Too open and made it a basketball game with a team that simply have better players than them. Reminded me of our 2 games against them.

There is a template for getting a result against Leeds that Huddersfield, Blackburn and Sunderland have used in recent weeks. QPR only need a point and haven't conceded many goals under Cifuentes. Hopefully they can get something.

If we beat Hull and Coventry you can be certain they will quickly pivot to it being unfair, the EFL being corrupt and there being an agenda against Leeds.
