What bugs me are these additional clauses. It puts the gamble of a players future at the feet of the selling club. In this example, we get the £4M off the bat but we may never get the additional £1M if he never reaches these milestones through his development stalling, injury or team selections. The same with a sell-on clause, what if he spends the rest of his career at Palace?
If Palace want him then pay the £5M (or more if we can get it) and he's your problem. If he gets injured, or falls out of favour with the manager, we are not hit in the pocket. Palace want him, they take the gamble and not us!!

Paul, by all means defend your players but please let us know if your instruction to Nolan was to pass to the opposition. Keeping the ball is a fairly simple task and we consistently fail at it. I had binned this game off as a defeat but that was a poor show. Add in that Bolton and Millwall did us no favours. Still within touching distance. Keeping the faith until evens shows us the colour of his money. |

He will have read the press and even if there was no formal or informal approach he would have had time to think things over. Ok, he wouldn't know anything about salary or player budget (lack of) but he could have weighed up his options club for club, prospects for prospects, etc. He will have been concentrating on the playoffs but contrary to my wife's beliefs, blokes CAN multitask. |

Might be worth a punt but managing a side in the second level of Scottish football can't be that difficult with a club like St Mirren can it? Pitting your wits against Brechin, Dumbarton and Greenock Morton for example.
Having said that, St Mirren only won 1 game in the last five. I guess by then they had won the league so were already on the beach.

Only getting to watch a few first team games a season must be what sucks about being one of the development staff, always elsewhere watching other matches, trying to find talent.
But then over the last couple of years, I think many of us would have preferred watching Diss Town, Needham Market or Walsham-le-Willows. |
