Probably our best striker of the ball. Almost got one tonight, even. I think there's a case for him taking pens when he's on the field. |

All those young men, sent to the front, by people who see them as nothing but cannon fodder. It's desperately sad, but I guess we still haven't found a cure for human nature. I feel the narrative is shifting now. As you say, no Hollywood victory for either side. I honestly think they'll memory hole Biden and bury Ukraine on top of him. Big election next year, and people seem to willingly forget things. |

You guys are high on something. But anyway, you play to win and get as many points as possible. And the club is first and foremost, a business. Not very romantic but it's a fact. Premier league = more revenue. |

The fact this conversation is even happening is indicative of how well we're doing. Gotta find some trivial minutiae to moan about. COYB. |

That's a fair point. The press did seem to fall away, especially in the second half. That said, Sunderland still passed neatly when they were down to 10. Even scored. They had no other option but to play, of course, and I think we were hasty in brining on second attackers. But whichever way you look at it, Sunderland away will be very different to QPR at home. I'm glad this fixture is out of the way and delivered 3pts. That's huge. |

Need to function as a unit this year, for sure. Have to take the opposition into account and assess our existing players strengths and weaknesses. One thing today that the manager won't forget - bringing on second string attacking players when you're 2-0 up against 10 men men can be risky business... especially with all this time added on. |

1. You get closed down a lot faster in this league. 2. Some of our players aren't quite composed/skilful enough to handle this. 3. This led to lots of errors in possession today. 4. However, we were defensively organised and demonstrated a clear goal threat. One game isn't much to go on, admittedly, but Sunderland are one of the better passing teams in the division. Kieran would have adjusted his tactics accordingly. To make a prediction, I think we'll see a 'different' Town every game season. Some weeks we'll be free-flowing, and on others we'll conspire to frustrate the opposition and counter. Strategy will be key this year. Thankfully, our manager is good strategic thinker. We'll be compete hard in every game and be very difficult opposition this year. |
| Forum Reply | But seriously, isn't that the problem with playoffs.... at 00:53 13 May 2023
Entertainment is the number 1 priority. Ironically, I used to despise VAR - believing that dodgy referee decisions were part of the spectacle, and crucial to the post-mortem. I changed my mind after watching the England-France game during the last world cup. The second penalty decision created UNBEARABLE tension and drama. It was the real deal! I suspect that's also why football authorities have decided to allow up to 10 mins of injury time now. More late goals, more madness (Ã la Charlton away). [Post edited 13 May 2023 1:01]

In a season like this, yes, it seems unfair (on Wednesday). But broadly speaking, the play-off system is the least worst way of keeping the league competitive and the fans engaged until the last game. Would you prefer dead rubber matches and empty stadiums for half the season? [Post edited 13 May 2023 0:29]

Sorry all. Tried to edit a spelling mistake in my "Is football becoming less popular" thread. Lost connection midday through and then everything got deleted. Fantastic. Wish I had the time to write it all out again. Shame, might have been an interesting discussion. Another day maybe. [Post edited 9 Jul 2020 12:54]

I strongly recommend *not* using eToro, Plus500 or any of the other CFD providers to trade. The spreads are wide, and there are many fees involved... Trading fee, exchange fee, withdrawal fee, non-usage fee etc. 75%+ of accounts lose money with these firms. The profit made by the 25% who don't is likely negligible. The 'copy trading' feature is also highly suspect. Read the terms; I'm stunned it's actually legal. Additionally, from what I can tell, the people you 'copy' seem to benefit from tighter spreads which improves their profitability. Steer well clear. This isn't really investing, it's betting. And frankly - it's a scam. On the subject of short-selling: in principle their is nothing wrong 'selling' a company which is badly managed or overvalued. Up till very recently, virtually every index in the world was overvalued. It would have corrected anyway. [Post edited 28 Mar 2020 11:13]

Extremely sad news. A hugely talented and impressive man. Extremely humble as well. One of my heroes, absolutely. |
