That was certainly a case of 'we were robbed', drove down to London that day ended up parking in the middle of a road near the Thames in Chelsea (everyone else had done the same) and running to the ground sat in disbelief that the Ref was so poor, we would have won it that year no doubt in my mind....
The fight disappeared when we dropped out of the Championship IMO....its a mental thing now, they haven't got the desire nor the ability to turn it around, I think PC is a good manager with his own chosen players but not with what he has here right now. Is there one player I would keep from today's squad ?? I'm struggling to answer that, maybe Dobra, Nisala? but anyone else is just not worth hanging on to. New manager bounce has been mentioned, but you can't have it when the ball is flat !!
Evans must be up to something.... is he about to sell up?? I cannot think of another manager in the history of our club that is so terrible in every aspect..football... PR...man management etc etc. Even MM wasn't this bad.
My view is that ME is waiting for PL to resign...body language says that he is hoping he will be totally fed up with the pressure and criticism and leave/resign, but I think ME will have to wait for that. I don't think ME will want to part with any money to pay off anyone judging by past events (Magilton) unless he absolutely has to...the fitness guy on leave in Scotland. I think that we will have to wait as it's going to be like a poker game, guess who makes the next move and what. ME must be aware of the fans feelings after that dreadful press release a few weeks ago, but wait we will.
So virtually everyone can see he needs to go, so if its too costly to sack him...could he be put on gardening leave and use someone already at the club who can take over...can they honestly do any worse
I can't see how Evans can let things slide even more...the 5 year deal with Lambert surely would have (if he is the big businessman we all think is) a break clause, quite what the terms are is anyone's guess but a change needs to happen and nearly everyone can see that the way things are at present it's just not working. Body language on and off the field says it all. I not a lover of constant change etc, I too was bored of MM and his boring tactics MM's saving grace was his eye for players picked up on the cheap, Lambert does not have that ability either. So where on earth do we go from here??
Well I can tell you the team vs Middlesboro away on 02/05/81.....
cooper Burley Osman Butcher Wark McCall Mariner Gates Murhen Brazil. Sub used was O'Callahan Goal Scorer was Mariner. Only 15503 attd the game...
Man City game Butcher scored the goal. I was on the way by train to Scotland on the day of the Middlesboro game lots of Town fans on the same train at Peterborough station...
Well i've never subscribed to the Murdoch bank (Sky) but football was a bubble which at some point was going to burst and this pandemic has just produced the pin...it has to change and my own guess is it will but how is the question now...I see, as someone else has also mentioned, that if the season is not complete (PL not EFL) then the TV companies will ask for a return of funding !! That would be interesting.
My thoughts entirely...Maybe just maybe football will change, however facts are the Government are paying the 80% therefore the clubs will only be paying 20% if they agree to that and if as stated in Spurs case they will only be paying out £275,000 pm...its us the taxpayers who will subsidise the PL clubs....yet small business's are struggling to get the help from the banks that the Government announced recently....sad times.
Having watched and followed ITFC since the late 1950's (missed the 1st Div champs games) its a sad demise where we currently sit. The last 20 years have been nothing but gloom and expectations that just never materialise and with where we are at present it looks like things will not change. I was reasonably happy with PL's appointment back in 2018, but as so many have said before the honeymoon will be over if during this season we don't achieve what players and management keep saying we will. The game vs Burton was a classic example no-one that excited that we won and that air of progress.....I guess the same will happen on Tues night if we did win, as we just do not have that fight to move things on....players I see and watch not putting in 100%, two goals recently where almost identical goals were scored and i'm sorry but Edwards is not a full back. So where do we go ...get rid of Lambert ? force out Evans who I do agree has not been great with supporting managers, but we do need a plan and we do need players to come out and play like they want to succeed...
I totally agree with this summing up...I said at half time PL would change it and take off Judge which proved to be correct, but watching this was painful....way out of it who knows... perhaps the players can take a note from the supporters as more passion from them than on the pitch i'm afraid.
