Guardian helpfully saying ETH is 50/50 to stay at Utd
at 05:03 16 May 2024

Of all the lazy articles, that has to be up there with the most pointless. Thus speculation is hiring already. None of those managers listed are the right fit for United.

Omari's goodbye

He has a year left on his contract at Chelsea so we’ll likely be in for him on a permanent deal.

McKenna will not be going to Man Utd any time soon, that much is obvious. They should be shopping for Ancelotti or Zidane at this juncture in their history. If it did happen (it won’t) but if it did (it really won’t), I suspect someone like Carrick would be a likely contender.

Downes
at 05:37 15 May 2024

I’m not being insulting, I’m simply pointing out that you’re sensationalising a story to amplify your point. Downes didn’t throw his toys out of the pram or refuse anything did he? Not being in “the right frame of mind” reads more like a mental health issue than a belligerent strop.

Downes wanted to leave. Lambert and Cook cut him loose in their own way as he wasn’t committed. It happens. The bottom line is he went on to be very successful and improve as a player.

Not sure why it’s being overlooked that he’d been at the club since he was 7-years old. I can understand wanting a change. When asked the other day, Wolfenden replied he’d been at the club, “too long”, which doesn’t seem to have been picked up. If he handed in a transfer request and wanted some time out would he also be deemed not good enough or a problem?

Guardian reporting McKenna to Man Utd link
at 05:23 15 May 2024

He wouldn’t be anywhere near contention if the managerial market had more serious elite managers available for consideration. Tuchel, Southgate, Potter, Nagelsmann all more experienced and ahead of KM in the betting not that I think any of them are a good fit for United.

What great football by Spurs and City tonight

There are three leagues in the PL. I reckon we’re good enough to position well in the second league.

He didn’t “refuse to train or play” Petey, he wanted to leave so trained with the under 23’s. Have you got any more made up stories to share?

Downes

I mean, it’s not like he went on to win a European Trophy, play in the Premier League and the play-off semi finals of a top Championship side or anything.

Anyone not seeing the quality Downes possesses and the value he adds is at the lower end of the TWTD chit chat pile. The fact The Saints are a different side without him says it all.

Dozzell released by QPR…

Maybe and if true it’s exactly what many predicted when he left here for the Championship. Sadly that’s as good as it’ll get for him from here on in.

Significant squad change isn’t needed, that would be detrimental to the “positive culture” you referred to. Assuming we get Sarmiento, Moore and Omari back we’ll sign four or five.

Championship sides
at 20:46 11 May 2024

Completely agree. There’s nothing to fear next season. We’ll lose some and get taught a few lessons in the off days but we’ll be pretty comfortable. This idea that we need to bring in players en masse to add “more quality” is a bit of a misnomer. More experience in places for sure but a whole new centre-back pairing? I remember some saying Burgess shouldn’t be in the starting eleven in league one and now look at him. Not sure why so many are quick to write off players that have walked two divisions.

We have our way. We are turning affordable signings into very good and in some cases, international players. We need supplementing in some areas, that is all.

Mid table finish next season.

Ahadme and Camara were both very odd signings anyway and most said as much at the time.

VAR and how I'd change it...
at 14:49 10 May 2024

The acronym VAR should have stopped at ‘Vuvuzelas are rubbish’ in South Africa in 2010. In fact, a vuvuzela is actually more use to the game; at least it was iconic.

Looks like Everton could be heading into admin next week
at 14:47 10 May 2024

Depends what the existing investors wanted / want out of it. It’s in Blueskies Capital’s best interest to not go into administration but have they got the funds or appetite to pay up everyone, invest and take an even bigger share in the club? Either way, it’s an absolute mess.

No they won’t. HMRC aren’t involved so it’s unlikely administration will suit any of the creditors who are invested in the club.

Sammie Szmodics

I think we’ll be adding a bit of PL know how to the squad. I don’t envisage us signing more than about 4 or 5 players, 3 of those being through the spine of the team so I’m not sure on Szmodic. I seem to remember us being in for a German target man at the same time we were looking at Gallagher and Moore though so I wouldn’t rule out us going abroad and my “PL experience” thought being wide of the mark.

My retained list:
at 10:25 9 May 2024

No-one should retain their place by default otherwise it negates the point of pre-season. Harness and Walton will be on a level playing field should KM wish to retain them.
