Fulham dominated midfield, and therefore possession, but looked shaky at the back and woeful up-front. In contrast, once Skuse and Hyam went off we looked completely over-run in midfield, but our strikers were sharp, and our defence looked totally in control, until the last ten minutes.
Skuse had two very good chances with free long range shots when completely unmarked, and should have hit the target. Wordsworth missed a relatively simple header, again unchallenged, which would have put us three-nil up, and did poorly to put it over.
The biggest plus point was David McGoldrick finishing well to find the net on his return from serious surgery. He looked dead on his feet with 15 minutes to go, though, and it is very unfortunate that he had to come on in the first half: he's clearly still a way from full fitness having sat out most of pre-season. |
