We've sold our best players for big money for 50 years. The key is getting the replacements right, whether from our youth system or recruitment (which are usually going to be lower league players). For example in the summer of 1999 we sold Kieron Dyer, but we got John McGreal, Jermaine Wright and Gary Croft. In contrast the Connor Wickham money was, generally, wasted on loan fees and a greater wage budget. |

One reason a 17 year old Dyer would get in our current team is it's nowhere near as good as the late 90s vintage. With football changing I doubt any current Championship is. |
