| Forum Thread | Club statement at 20:06 23 May 2024
Do we expect a club statement imminently? Story isn’t going away. 2 things can happen: Mckenna stars or goes. The media keep talking about it, we keep talking about it… when is it going to be put to bed, one way or the other? This makes us look unstable with uncertainty over Mckenna’s position, I just don’t want to be in a - selling Muirphy on transfer deadline day, leaving Leon Best up front - position any longer than we need to tbh. I’m really beginning to hate the Premier league. Fwiw I wouldn’t begrudge him of wanting to manage his boyhood club, but the other 2 would really surprise me. Utd or us (ha imagine thinking that 3 years ago…)

| Forum Thread | My top 10 moments of this season at 19:31 6 May 2024
1. Sunderland away George Hirst goal. Vas performance. Away from home. Against a team who were in the play offs the season before. On sky. What a start to the season! 2. The comeback vs Cardiff after going 2-0 down. Super sub Freddy. 2-0 down at home after a good start to the season. This performance goes down as the one I remember first really thinking we were pretty good. 3. That Wes Burns goal. What a goal. Worked from back to front before the delightful finish. 4. Sarmiento goal against Leicester (a) Massive, massive, massive goal for us at the time. 5. Morsy goal against Leicester (h). it feels a little boring to have 2 goals against Leicester in the list but the context of the goals cannot be ignored. Also helped being on Boxing day at home to ‘rescue’ a point. The time “Deflection FC” started appearing. 6. Harness equaliser away at Birmingham Massive goal and a tidy, tidy finish on the turn/volley My stream was so bad I only knew it was a goal because the net moved. Went crazy. 7. Leif Davis goal against Bristol City Timing of the goal with the importance of that goal considering the table. Big celebrations. Also meant we had won 6 on the bounce. 8. Beating Sheffield Wednesday 6-0 at home after losing 2-1 THAT away game. So important we put Sheffield Wednesday away and bounced back after losing to Cardiff in the manner in which we did and also at that stage in the season. Thought we would beat them, but certainly didn’t expect that score line. A great win and also showed how far we have come in such a short space of time. 9. Sarmiento goal against Southampton. Not sure I have ever celebrated a goal more. Russel Martin. Leif Davis free on the left. Last minute. Last touch. Toe poke. Limbs. 10. The full time whistle Saturday. Just waiting for someone to call out an obvious best moment that I have missed. A couple of outside mentions: - Leeds losing 4-0 to QPR - Harry Clarke’s brother being mistaken for Burgess [Post edited 6 May 19:33]

Some of the comments on Tuanzebe are incredibly harsh imo, he has played 90 mins in the last 5 games coming into tonight (and that was 90 minutes against Maidenhead… Maidstone*). He was forced on due to Clarke’s injury with 15 mins left when Rotherham were all over us as a team. Tough conditions tonight coming on, looked like a player lacking match fitness. He is a quality player, just needs time. Wasn’t long ago many were raving about him on here… [Post edited 20 Feb 22:30]

Was fouled for one of the goals imo. At least in the Prem next year, VAR would overturn it ;) |

First goal - foul on Morsy in build up, duffed shot from 35 yards that’s been deflected… 2nd Goal - Offside. It’s been a bad start but my god have we been unfortunate. |

A few take always: The pass at 00:40 screams a Chaplin goal. Similar to how Davis and Chaplin link up. We are going to need someone who can head the ball. I always feel Burns attacks the ball well in the air. Just need a big striker to help! It would be nice for us to bring in a big, strong striker, who can head and hold up the ball. Everyone’s dream hey? Can also shoot. Looks similar in terms of movement to Hutchinson. Hopefully loan with the view to make permanent when we go up ;) |

Is this now a possibility…? Although what a horrific take on Hirst by me. How wrong I was! [Post edited 28 Dec 2023 20:04]

I’d like to see this tbh: Broadhead Burns Chaplin Omari Burns better suited position wise with Leif v Omari. Omari and Clarke have always looked a good young duo when they play together imo. Broadhead just needs support and he will be firing again, put him upfront in this team and he scores plenty. |

Austria seems the pre-season to the pre-preseason. The end of the month is the important one. Great scheduling by McKenna IMO - he said he got what he wanted from the camp and so did the team. Austria was for assessing the current team and where we are IMO. Hurst has signed so he will be going fresh into these games and I imagine we will see some more signings in the next 12 days (given McKenna is announcing it) as well. I think we will get a pretty good picture of our best 11 for the season after these games. These games will be a tough test but I think with a couple of additions to the current team we could be very good: - RW to challenge Burns. (I really like him but I worry he might struggle in some games next season. Also hasn’t had anyone really challenge for his place and I think at times he has not been consistent). - Another Striker to push Hirst. He played well for us last year and his goals helped us massively with promotion. He fits our style of play brilliantly and I’m sure he will have a great career but he hasn’t scored many goals at this level before. So there is part of me concerned about relying on a 24 year old next year if he goes througha dry spot. I’m not sure Ladapo is the answer. - A new CB - ideally a young player from a Premiership club with Championship experience. I’m interested to see Edmundson play at this level though. When fit and on his day, he is a much better player than Burgess. Walton Clarke (+ some more experience here IMO but think Clare will thrive at this level). Woolfy NewCB / Edmonson over Burgess purely becauseI think Edmuson is another who will thrive at this level. I think it will suit him better. I worry about Burgess being caught flat footed by some much better players than League One strikers. Davis / Leigh Morsey Taylor Burns / New RW Chaplin (A loan here as well) Broadhead (I really feel Edwards will thrive in this League and he will feature but not necessarily over Broadhead) Hirst (Loan and Lapdapo) Really excited for this season and think we will surprise a few. Our style of play will be much better on Championship standard pitches than League One pitches and Mckenna is only going to get better as time goes on and he increases his experience. COYB. | Forum Thread | Amad Diallo at 20:29 15 May 2023
Genuinely believe we could see Ahmad Diallo arrive on a loan for next season. Yes he is on big wages, but he is currently on loan at Sunderland. If they can afford him, surely we can too? I would say a lot rests on if Sunderland go up but if they don’t, I imagine Utd wouldn’t mind sending him back out on loan for next season at a relatively similar level. 14g and 3a is a very good return but is it really enough to be pushing out the likes of Rashford … Garnacho … Anthony or Sancho? I mean some of those don’t even start. Would he be happy with the game time at Utd if he didn’t move on (loan)? Will Utd loan him to a premier league club? I really don’t know. Potentially, but much more likely a mid to high ligue 1 or Bundesliga club level. We had over 25,000 fans a game at home in League One, week in week out and away games were sold out, even on Tuesday nights. We have an up and coming young manager who was previously at Utd and irrespective of what is said by Utd fans, has always had former pros/coaches saying all the right things about him. Look at Chaplin, Davis, Broadhead, Hirst, Woolfenden, Burns and how they developed and look in this team. We have just got promoted into the same league as Sunderland, have cash, a respected young manager (at Utd) and have a young team who right now look like they would finish top half of the table next season(higher if you consider early betting odds). I really think some people on here don’t realise how attractive we are. I mean… imagine Broadhead and Diallo in the same team though. Also I think Hirst won’t be coming back to us and we will be in for someone more experienced. Hirst is a good striker and I’m sure he will have an unreal career but thinking back to the first thing I read about the new owners was that they signed flipping Drogba. They will want proven Championship+ goals with the supply coming from behind. Just my thoughts. |
| Forum Reply | There used to be Goal posts and a pitch… at 20:58 5 Dec 2022
I do remember there being 2 and both having crossbars. It was on the right as you got up the hill of the 16th in the direction of the 13th. It was covered in heather. This was 15+ years ago. |

On Rushmere Heath, in the middle of the golf course. Between the 16th(?) and 13th(?) holes. Does anyone know what it was used for? I wondered if there was any history to it? Just saw a thread about how few Sunday League teams there are now vs the past and it got me thinking about that pitch and it’s history. [Post edited 5 Dec 2022 20:54]

Yesterday was the first time a toddler has come up to me in public and mistaken me for their dad. I know it’s not “ahhh jeez I just woke up and realised I was 60” but it gave me a bit of a kick! Life goes fast lads. |
| Forum Reply | Several of the officials for England vs Ukraine are German at 11:24 2 Jul 2021
This is a little silly in my opinion. The pinnacle for referees / officials at the / any Tournament is officiating the Final. The Germans are out, them being 'bias' towards Ukraine would only damage 1) their reputation and 2) end their own Tournament. They probably don't care we knocked them out ... they will want to officiate the Final and not going to jeopardise their careers over a relatively insignificant thing when they are in their 'own' Tournament. |
