No Hutchinson on the player rankings?...he did come on. Jekyll and Hyde performance in my opinion but hopefully the lads will learn from this...sat far far too deep when they went down to 10. Saying that would have bitten my right hand off for 3 points before the game! Hladky MOTM...people over rank players particularly strikers just because they score a goal.

Fist game I have seen this season and was expecting wholesale changes as per Mick's pre-match banter and all we had was Chopra replacing Murphy and playing slightly behind Campbell and Smith replacing Chambers.
The first half began tepidly although Boro were the livelier and our defense looking it's typically nervy self ( from where I was sitting I could see our defensive line and it was all over the place with Higginbotham trying to bark out orders). Within 9 minutes they had scored with a typical soft goal as their goalscorer waltzed through with our defense ball watching and yet again not on the same wave length. There after was 30 odd minutes of misplaced passes and a lack of penetration apart from the odd sorte from Martin or Edwards down the right side our only clear cut opportunity coming from a long cross from the right and think found Martin free to head straight at the goalkeeper. The half ended with not surprising boo's.
The second half started with somewhat of a better tempo with our midfield pushing up higher and again the threats coming from Martin and the composed Edwards (good on the ball and with passes and crossing). Not surprising that Martin got us a penalty on 60 minutes as he nipped onto his right and was allegedly caught, penalty dispatched by Campbell who should have added another some 10 minutes later from a pin point ball from Edwards with the goal at his mercy. It wasn't all Ipswich and Peterboro had chances too as they ran at our inept defense with 2 reasonably good saves from Henderson and another attempt hit wide of the left stick after a break down our right side. Martin saw an athletical effort saved and another tipped over the bar by their keeper. Overall defeat would have been harsh on Boro as they probably were the more fluent when attacking.
After the first game this season I left feeling not over confident of our chances of getting out of the relegation zone, only a few players on the pitch today I had any praise for - January transfer window beckons and hopefully a few I saw today will be leaving.

Ratings:

HENDERSON - 6 After a nervy first half 2 good second half saves although distribution at times was lacking.
ORR - 5 Yet to settle down, rather lacking in pace and made a couple of errors although tried to help Edwards second half.
SMITH - 5 Fairly quiet and a few times forced into mistakes in passing and caught on the ball.
HIGGINBOTHAM - 5 Had the ball too much first half (if your saw his passing first half you know that's not a good thing). Partly at fault for their goal.
CRESSWELL - 4 Continually looks nervous now we are playing 442 and had little impact on the game.
N'DAW - 5 Little quality, when the going gets rough he's in there but that's about it.
REO-COKER - 5 Contributed little in the centre and always the first to moan if something goes wrong, doesn't look Premiership standard.
MARTIN - 7 Threatened at times with pace, got our penalty and had another effort well saved.
EDWARDS - 7 Our man of the match (again) - quality on the ball with crossing and passing and is usually behind a lot of our best moves and now playing in his right position.
CHOPRA - 5 Played seemingly behind Campbell and had the odd move first half and put in strangely a few tackles but no sight of goal and largely ineffective.
CAMPBELL - 6 Coolly took the penalty but missed a guilt edged chance afterwards. Our threat in the middle.

Subs: Murphy 6 JET 6 Hyam 5

Overall: fairly disappointing although somewhat better second half but the defense continues to creek, centre of midfield looks to have little quality and this needs changing. Draw probably the right result.

2nd half was more 'end to end' but some of the passing towards the end particularly from Drury was of sunday league stuff. Almost given up moaning about this team - it's about as bad as I ever remember!

We didn't sit back second half, they showed more desire to try and score. The 1st half Wellens and Drury were hardly ever troubled bringing the ball out from defense, that shows you how poorly they played then.
Really worried how much PJ continues to keep changing the starting 11...I fear we're in big trouble and it looks like the board doesn't care.

1 win in 10 I think you'll find...no win at home since March, truly dreadful.

Also surprise that Wellens and Drury partnership in the center, Jewell has tinkered around with a partnership in this position far far too much already, Wellens won't help this. I thought as the second half progressed Drury was quilty several times of giving the ball away needlessly,

Fist half as said we played fairly well, moved the ball around nicely down the right side with Edwards and JET and had to be said Cardiff looked lackluster with only the odd hopeful ball slung into our box. We had a good opportunity through Campbell missed and a good shot from JET but didn't create much other than that until Campbell forgot to play football and moved onto volleyball to net our goal - and largely deserved.
The second half to me was more end to end with Cardiff showing more imputeous to score. We could have wrapped the game up if JET had showed more composure after a good build up, then after that as we were almost in sight of the precious 3 points the mistakes came from Loach who fluffed a cross and then late on with a muddle up between Loach and not for the first time this season Cresswell on a cross to let Helgusson in with a header.
As H32 mentioned Cardiff were lucky to take all 3 points and echo the thoughts about feeling a bit sad for Jewell on this game but unfortunately these individual mistakes keep happening so it must be the fault of someone. If we don't play badly in general then these mistakes cost us the points in games we should get at least a point.
To sum up we played ok in general and Cardiff were lucky but what I find disconcerting is how often the opponents get somewhat on top as the match progresses leading to mistakes at the back/goal - smells of a team lacking in confidence to see games out. Maybe it really is time for a change and change of mind set.

Good performance and will take a point just a shame we couldn't get 3, as mentioned still some strange results going on and Posh have won 2 on the bounce tightening up the relegation positions.

Look who got PJ out of the mire last season - Drury and Hyam in midfield, both on the bench tonight!. Makes you wonder what the players do on the practice field, perhaps they regularly miss the goal from 6 yards there too. As mentioned 1 game you can forgive but to do it in the next one as well, unforgivable.

Agreed posts about Smith above, amazing just how many posters who says 'he's just not up to this level' then totally forget or don't want to know the fact that he was quite a few times MOM second half of last season. I do feel he needs a break for a few weeks, hardly had a break during the off season.

Shouldn't we have gone 3-2 up just after they equalized? Chopra missed an absolute sitter in front of goal (against the post). Looked an entertaining game but only again due to our inability to defend once in the lead.

@sindre - not quite sure how you forget a 6-0 drubbing by the next weekend? something is fundamentally wrong with this team or maybe even just the defense, heads drop too easily, this didn't happen the second half of last season!!
Too early to start pointing fingers after just one result, we'll see where we are by the time October come's around.

I wasn't at the game today but it's strange how different stations report matches differently, according to the Beeb it was 2 points dropped for Blackburn today who were apparently 'strolling' up until the last ten minutes or so and then Town put them under pressure aided and abetted by a crowd that had been quiet up until the equalizer! Not sure how accurate this is? anybody like to shed some neutral light on this? Also they said that Danny Murphy had ran the midfield and for the most part we were misplacing our passes.
