| Blog Comment | Part Two: The Change in Ownership to Gamechanger and the Financial Wash-up at 15:29:56
Thanks for the blog. The point on operating expenses is a good one - hopefully an explanation will be forthcoming. But I’m afraid I can’t agree with your statement “If you appoint six well-credentialed managers and all six fail you can’t say it was down to poor decision making. It would be fairer to say that luck or circumstances played a major role”. You certainly can’t argue it was just bad luck that all six failed (and indeed you acknowledge that later). There has to be a massive element of poor decision making, even if those decisions were (in the main) supported at the time. You acknowledge that maybe we were going after the wrong type of manager - surely that’s a great example of poor decision making? |
| News Comment | Mowbray: I Think Stansfield Wants to Stay Here at 09:46:04
Most of this is just Mowbray saying the right things for his audience and Stansfield saying (or, more correctly, allowing to be said) the right things for his current audience. The one significant new bit of information is that the recall window is still open. Like many others I’d assumed that by this stage of the month it was closed. |
| News Comment | McGoldrick: I Was Open to Staying at Town But Hurst Said No at 13:15:11
Shades of Jack Marriott here. Player has disappointing last couple of seasons, leaves on a free, no one bothered, player signs for another club and does well. But both players have admitted that being released was the kick up the backside they needed. All points to the fact that clubs (especially the manager) need to use more than the carrot of the next contract to motivate players. As was said earlier, interesting that McGoldrick makes these comments next to the guy who was manager at the time. |
| News Comment | Chambers Hits Out at Agents at 17:33:04
Agree with most of what he says, but not convinced by the “former players make better agents” narrative, any more than I was by his similar comments re referees. From what I can see there are quite a few ex players now operating as agents and I don't see any evidence that they're better. I'd say that an understanding of the world outside football would be a benefit to an agent, not a drawback. |
