Keir Starmer's abysmal interview on BBC One
at 14:58 8 May 2021

As a Conservative, I am very keen to conserve.

Always have been.

I had well-developed views...

Sadly, I have forgotten them. I guess I'm now too old to be suffering from Early Onset Dementia, aren't I ?

However, Mr Bloo and I will be appearing Live, not with Ed... but at Bent Lane with, no doubt, just three other bent old men... I used to, as you may remember, thoroughly enjoy Training - no, I never took part...Bad Knee, as all failed players say...not that I played footer at school...

I thought I would be dead by now but it seems to be unproven...

...tho, I accept that one can prove anything with statistics...

Lefties are having to swallow some HUUUUGE stats...Houchen took 75% of the votes in the Tees Valley mayoral contest. As BBC commented (thru gritted teeth) that's almost North Korean. In Midbro ?!!! BORIS. BREXIT. BOOOOOM.

Do you remember Houchen's uncle, Keith, who was unfairly awarded goal of the season by MOTD ? Warkie scored goals like that every week. Watched highlights of first leg of UEFA final, this morning. I had a copy of the 1978 cup final...but I lost it. I didn't lend it to you, did I ?

TWTD proves that the North Stand is still as wedded to silly 'progressive' political mirages, despite its occupants having grown old...leftie liberalism was understandable when TWTD was populated only by YOUNG NS chaps...old lefties always look so Ugly, don't they, worn out by their poverty and angst.

Did you see the funny photo of Sir Keith Stairrod, captioned, 'Last week, it was wallpaper; this week, it's Curtains...' How We Laughed...

We are certainly living thru A Golden Age...happy to be alive and hopeful that Boris may reign even longer than did The Blessed Margaret...

Add the Monster Raving Loonies to that coalition and you have The Trilogy of Doom...

You noticed that the Greens and the LibDems combined, at Hartlepool, polled Over 700 votes...

...between them...?

As a shareholder, I voted FOR Marcus Evans and will vote AGAINST GC20.
at 16:19 7 Apr 2021

Is he not a world-class businessman ? Has he not applied that same brain to ITFC ? Yes, that's the answer I'm suggesting, to both questions...

...and it sadly and frustratingly hasn't worked out...just as 88 English league clubs Fail each year to win their divisional title.

I think that Evans has - plain and simple - been a scapegoat for a primarily unlucky decline.

You doubt whether he has made Reasonable decisions ? That's pretty extreme, isn't it ? Do you have a list of Unreasonable decisions that he has made ?

I'm afraid that the echo chamber that is TWTD repeatedly becomes a suffocating socialist dictatoriat, in which any view other than that of the Consensus is regarded as Lunatic.

Time and time again, a new manager is welcomed as the messiah but is turned within months into a pariah, his supposedly staggeringly wonderful characteristics reversed into gaping flaws for which he should be flayed.

If Cookie's disastrous first few matches is a clue, he will be reviled before the end of the season, perhaps for Chopping & Changing..."He STILL doesn't know his best eleven!"

How long before The American Bean Counters That Know Nowt About Football are despised ? Christmas ?

I hope that we excel under their leadership tho I don't expect them to have actually written out 'checks' (as they call them) for more than a few pence and I don't expect them to EVER waste £100m as poor Evans has done.

I bet a Top Worst Case Figure of $50m has been mentioned, after which they will sling the club into Receivership.

And, yes, I'm still watching every kick of every ball, on iFollow...tho the laborious Instant Replays cause one to miss some kicks !

Tho, the Cobbolds were Gentlemen and would be appalled to hear such rudeness directed towards ME.

I respect the fact that you disagree with me. But perhaps you have spoiled your case by over-egging it ?

How interesting. I actually thought that dear old Bryan Knights was the only No voter when the ME takeover was proposed and I respected Bryan's view, of course. I remember he spoke to the motion, at the EGM.

Yes, a vote from we existing shareholders was actually required, when ME bought in but I expect that GC20 will wish to demonstrate some respect towards we 3,000 shareholders by inviting us to some sort of meeting, perhaps with a token, 'indicative' vote.

I shall 'respectfully' vote No, the New Plan doesn't hold water, in my view; where is the provision for Luck, and any recognition of Bad Luck suffered by Evans, in the press releases ?

Each season, 88 English clubs Fail to win their division; is that Failure ? Does it Prove that the manager or owner is a fool ? 'Hasn't gotta clue !" "He's ruined our club ! Evans is a bum." What tosh, he's made reasonable decisions and invested his time and world-class business acumen in our little entity. It hasn't worked out. Nor has my life, in its final phase, but I gave it a crack, early on and had some fun and success, just as Evans has, in other parts of his life, using the same brain.

But of course it is very interesting, to see in a new era and presumably they will splash some cash, at least initially, as I remember poor Evans was forced to do by the profligate Royston (who splurged nearly £100m at Sunderland so Marcus perhaps got off lightly.)

As when Evans took over, the specific quantities of cash changing hands will never be known definitively but, one way or another, GC20 will Spend but from a quite different standpoint to that of ME: every penny 'invested' now will be tracked and filtered thru accountants and committees whereas Evans probably only had his wife to nag him about wasting money...

Within the world of pension funds, Investment is made on the expectation of Return tho I have already conceded that a professional fund portfolio will include some mad punts which is surely how the purchase of ITFC will be categorised. "It's a long shot outta left field," or whatever Financial Americaners say.

The TWTD consensus is that Only 'investing' a million pounds a month over a decade is cheapskatery of the most foul and contemptible cheapness. "If you dare to buy MY football club, in which I have personally invested nowt, you must promise to lose hundreds of millions of pounds or you will deserve a birching on the centre-spot." In the GeeWhizz20 boardroom, have the words HUNDREDS of millions been heard ? Doubt it.

I'm surprised that I have lived long enough to "see in" anything, my health has been poor ever since...well, I have amnesia so I can't remember how long I have been poorly. And, yes, sadly, I'm too old to be suffering Early Onset Dementia...

COYB, I of course have my fingers crossed and hope that we at least enjoy a New Owner Honeymoon (better than Cookie's) and sufficient to lift us back into Division Two, perhaps even this season.

By sheer coincidental chance, I spoke face-to-face with Lord Norwood last night, unlikely as it sounds, and we made reference to the takeover but I specifically told him that I would not reveal details of our chat

I’m utterly opposed to this soulless, money-based, takeover by a raft and range of investors and other executives with a minor interest in ‘sports’ and ‘soccer’ and absolutely zero interest in, or respect for, ITFC.

What a contrast with the modest, local Marcus Evans.

90% of the GC20 equity comes from a pension fund that will be looking for instant income and, ultimately, a capital gain and it is possible that, at the top of the agenda of GC20 is an Exit Strategy.

From the pension fund’s point of view, it is important to have the odd Gamble Investment within a portfolio and, boy, they’ve picked a doozy...as Americans might say.

We’ve seen the strategy that they have introduced elsewhere and upon which they have explicitly based their hopes, viz trading players, at the same time as reaching the Prem with months. They think they’ll make a few millions On The Side, by selling AndrÄ— and Flynn, whilst romping up the leagues.

I imagine that they have a Three Year Plan and that they will definitely hold a ‘fire sale’, after five years, if they have not achieved all of their objectives.

Marcus Evans is one of Britain’s most successful entrepreneurs, it is absurd to suggest that he has proven himself to be an incompetent football club owner. He has merely been unlucky.

He has also been a great sportsman, who continued writing out cheques for what turned out to be a doomed project, even when the losses roared past £100m. Without complaint. Despite brain-dead fans remorselessly screaming abuse at him, for ‘failing’ to “invest”...or, as one might also call it, throw away a king’s ransom of over £100m.

I would’ve bailed out long, long ago.

I regard Mr Evans in the same light as the Cobbolds. I can offer him no greater compliment. I certainly offer him my thanks…

… And I look forward to hearing how much money I am going to make, on my shares ! I “invested”...

In terms of Mustn't Grumble, there's a bit to say...

On the one hand, my son and his gf are facing a £30k+ bill for a silliness. They will not have any part of their Loan absolved, they are sure to face a Real outgoing of this huge sum. If no-one pipes up about this, the young couple will suffer this poor deal.

BUT, it would be foolish to become depressed or bitter about this. Mustn't Grumble isn't a bad motto to live by, throughout one's life...Complain, seek redress...but, if it isn't forthcoming, Move On. Look at my first ex-wife - STILL bitter...

...mind, her second hubby dumped her, too (NO. Don't say that she must have been doing something badly wrong as she remains a fine woman; I ran off with a tottie...and, unbelievably, so did the next guy and I have never forgiven him. And, because W1 - as I call her - is still in daily contact with me, I now have to shoulder her hatred of both me and H2

Where was I ?

Do you know, I haven't had my pills, yet. I had more to say but I think I must get on.

I've been for a walk with D3, in light drizzle.

And, I've been up to Tesco Express for a croissant that I'm not supposed to have. But I forgot washing-up liquid. One out of two is A Result.

Tho, that issue arose based upon the point I made.

The London clubs don’t have the one-on-one rship with a local paper, as was the case with Town and the East Anglian/Evening Star, thirty years ago.

Instead, in London a manager would face national journalists that would not have the intense focus on his team that Allard, Garnett And the skinny chap with spex whose names escapes me.

Here, it was part of the journalist’s job to take every opportunity to schmooze with the players and that is precisely what happened. Dave Allard was always at the bar and Garnett was in the clubhouse, buying drinks for players. Both journalists were sociable so this was not the cynical exercise that it sounds – it’s the same in Round Table, Masons and Rotary – but Lyall hated this familiarity and inevitable ‘leakage’ that in London was not a problem.

Lyall was an institution in the East End, a mentor to Bobby Moore, at West Ham for over thirty years and he felt disrespected at Town tho, unexpectedly, he loved Suffolk and his widow (who I met a couple of times) continued to live here. When Lyall retired, his widow told me, he never watched another match again.

You raise so many decent points.

Uncle Arthur.

Registered blind.

He drove an old black Morris and commented, whilst driving us home from Carrow Road, a long distance, that Norwich were lucky to have got a point.

They’d won. (Or, lost: the point of the story doesn’t change; they hadn’t drawn, Arthur; he’d not seen the goal !!😄😄😄🦋

Ah me. He was REGISTERED BLIND, whatever than means. Was his white stick provided for free ?

Golly, times have changed. I’m so tempted to get into a discussion about The Ipswich Way...

But I must not.

Arthur was a gentle, lovely man. He had some sort of tumour of the brain that had caused his blindness.

Didn’t hold him back, tho !! You know I’m not making it up. “Times change.”

He actually used to work on a brewery dray, delivering for Peatlings & Cawdron and they would drink a pint at every pub at which they delivered. True. Hahaha.

'Not sure it's a great year for students.'

The youngest of my many children, still at university - {{a lot of wives, a lot of water passed under the bridge}} - sits in a flat with his delightful gf - a flat he prudently committed to, just before the pandemic struck, as he is Well Organised - and a flat that he was and is legally committed to. There is no question of a refund of the year's rent.

Why would the couple want such a refund ? Because their university is offering them online tuition.

They could be sitting in Bucharest where flat rental is more reasonable and the geographic location equally relevant.

This one year will cost the couple over £30,000 and please don't mention that they may never repay the total cost of their uni experience as I think they will.

In this instance, there is not 'good stuff and not so good stuff'...there is only disaster, from The Customer's POV. My son and his gf are paying £30k to watch YouTube.

The public sector of course finds the capitalist 'obsession' with the customer alien to a communal life and yet I notice that left-of-centre North Stand ITFC fans - as represented on here - are vocal in their criticism of Mr Evans when they in fact contribute so little to the cost of providing the ITFC service. "It's Our Club." It is unarguably Our Club in one sense and yet, in another sense, it is legally only the plaything of Evans, for him to throw away, should he so choose...{{and if I was him I would have done so half a decade ago - at around the "I've wasted £50m on this" point.}}

Thus, Town fans - watching our games online - would be lynching people if, whilst receiving almost no customer benefit, they were invited to pay one hundredth of the sum that my boy is paying tho he will arguably gain more benefit from his degree than we Town fans have seen in two decades.

"Universities need those fees!" That isn't an argument that has much lateral resonance: students need some of their money back, just as landlords have insisted upon their full rent.

That's a characteristically long-winded way of saying that my boy is losing out, financially and educationally. Big Time.

Not that it's Someone's Fault.

In just the same way that Boris has not deliberately killed anyone, so neither universities nor the gov is morally responsible for the mess in which my son finds himself. He's not being 'swindled' but, whereas so many millions of people are receiving 80% of their (legal min) wage for lying in bed, some students are taking a smack. (And, no doubt, some are taking smack.)

I raised the question: will universities excuse themselves from offering a penny of discount to students taking a smack, by claiming that the pandemic is force majeure, an Act of God and that therefore the customer can get lost, "because we universities need the money" ?

If so, would the university financial and legal authorities assist students in suing landlords for a refund, arguing on behalf of Their Students that, to meet the standards of natural justice, force majeure must surely also apply to the student/landlord rship ?

I'm framing the argument, not arguing the case.

But I think this issue deserves to be properly aired, don't you ?

Lucan is alive and well - I am in weekly contact, i shall mention your name - but, as you say, even he - as urbane and tolerant a man as can be (tho not on the subject of Policing) - can no longer stomach the socio-political atmosphere that has long since overwhelmed The Forum, that of teenaged girls at boarding school and their infantile, liberal-fascist tropes.

Whoops, have I said too much ?

Ah yes, in amongst all this Git Love, we may have forgotten that I'm a Conservative. {{Tho I have never (really) posted on political subjects and never wish to.}}

Ruins the Git Love vibe, doesn't it ? Like Corbyn rocking up to a Tinder date and discovering that the W in "AnnW'' stands for Widdecombe.

Incidentally, do you think that universities are protected from students demanding refunds/discounts by Force Majeure ?
