I suppose all QPR goals were offside and numerous pens were turned down. Added to that they didn't beat the Budgies at Carrot Road. So much for a multi million pound squad. Perhaps Farke caught German measles off Klopp.

If you had £30m to spend on 2 players today
at 16:26 13 May 2024

If for instance you spent a significant amount on Hutchinson you would have to be sure he could perform to the same level in the Premier League therefore I wouldn't spend more than half, 15 million on him. Sarmiento whilst having done great for us has been a bit part player and his full potential may not be to the fore yet and as such a figure of sub 10 million. Unless we have our sights on a few loan players or cheaper one's from a lower division or from abroad I think another 10 mill may have to be added to the 30 mill.

That's management I'm afraid. Get it wrong and it's bye bye. Not many owners are prepared to wait. Fans get frustrated, voice their opinion from the stands and whether you are good or not it's exit stage left. Think I am right in saying Sir Bobby was kicked out by Fulham and had it not been for the Cobbold's in his early years may have gone the same way from Town. McKenna will currently have suitors for his services for what he has achieved in such a short time. Nobody expected it so his status has gone from an unknown to him being plastered over national press and Sky t.v. Whilst I in no way am putting his achievements down it has to be remember that every part of ITFC were pulling in the same direction. Owners, all levels of management, backroom staff, players and fans. You don't always get that. Either players resent a new guy coming in or the fans hate the owners, or the players are not happy with the fans or visa versa. Or the players don't get on with each other or one is a disruptive influence. Town had none of that. Players seemed happy when they were subbed, especially like Chappers when Sarmiento came on and scored against Saints. However good you are you are only as good as your last game. There will no doubt be times even for McKenna when things don't go right. As has been said we must prepare ourselves to lose more that half a dozen games in the Premier League. But we must also remember where we came from and but for those in charge at PR now we would still be bobbing around in League One.

Agree with you on Baggott. I saw him come on against Fulham and thought he organised the defence well and scored our only goal. He went on loan and despite not having the best of starts ended the season with the loan club wanting him on loan again. Whilst I would in no way question McKenna on his decisions I can't quite understand why Baggott hasn't had a sniff as far as first team football is concerned. But then we don't know how he trains or behaves. But the mere fact that he is still around leads me to believe he has a future at ITFC.

Although we did pretty well against parachute payment teams except Leeds when we played Fulham although we fielded an under strength team the gulf between us and them came through. Against premier opposition excluding the obvious one's that we believe will depart there are a few that finished this current season that I maybe see as if not being replaced may see themselves as next season's fringe players. Players such as Woolfy, Loungo and even Chappers. I think McKenna will give them all a chance but recruitment may mean players that are brought in won't just be bought to make up the numbers.

Biggest myth - norwich have a loyal fanbase
at 12:53 9 May 2024

Back in the late 60's I worked at what was then one of the top hotels in Norwich, The Royal. I believe it went out of business around 1981 as where it is positioned there's no parking facilities adjacent. On a Saturday prior to a home match a load of old farmers would come in for lunch. Being a junior I served Hors d'oeuvres and desserts. A ladle of cream was One shilling and sixpence, about 12.5p in today's money. They would never pay for it. Despite my dislike of Narrwich as a team I do have affection for it's people, the City and my time working there. I did have some decent workmates as I also worked a Courtaulds as a weaver.

Unpopular opinion: I wouldn’t have Sarmiento back next season
at 17:32 8 May 2024

Tbh you could aim the same comments for Al Hamadi. Hutchinson's pedigree was higher profile than Sarmiento or Al Hamadi. There's an enormous amount of improvement in both of them. Neither, apart from the goal against Saints have had the same impact as Hutchinson. Al Hamadi was unlucky not to have scored before Sarmiento came on. I honestly believe given McKenna's ability to improve players that both have a huge amount of improvement in them.

Angry Colchester fans
at 17:19 8 May 2024

No different really to any part of the Country. I lived in a small village as a kid and my best mate was a Man Utd fan. I live in Needham Market and the neighbour across the road is also Man Utd. When I worked in Stowmarket a workmate had a ST at Arsenal. Fans aren't necessarily glory hunters. A few are, but many will go for the most attractive and highest league team that's within their ability to go to matches. I have had digs in Colchester and in Norwich, both of which I attended games at the local clubs. Doesn't mean I supported them but just that I like football. Used to travel to PR from Norwich on a night game.

50% of climate scientists expect the globe to warm by 3C
at 11:42 8 May 2024

As records on go back so far we are in the dark to an extent as to what has gone before. Dinosaurs were wiped out. If you believe in the Bible Noah built an ark because of floods. Is this really global warming or just an occurrence that happens every so many thousands of years. No doubt man has contributed to warming in part. Building houses with little or no gardens, where everyone needs a place to park 1,2,3,4 cars. We all pay extra on our gas and electric bills for so called green schemes. But the Government makes little effort to make sure that everyone has access to cheap or free installation. They push EV's and heat pumps, but who has £20,000+ for an EV that's not proven and doesn't do the job of a diesel or petrol vehicle and a heat pump at £30,000 that again isn't proven to provide the necessary heat in the depths of winter. Added to this you have China, USA, India making very little effort to cut their emissions.

at 11:28 8 May 2024

It would all hinge on the sort of dosh Chelsea want for Hutchinson. I am really unsure what sort of money he'd command. People more knowledgeable than myself believe Davis to now be worth 20 million. So I'd see Hutchinson around the 15-20 million maybe ?

Contracts expiring this summer - and a little prediction for each
at 11:19 8 May 2024

I do think being in the Premier League we cannot afford too many passengers. With fair play rules ( A misnomer in my opinion) it is imperative that as a squad we have as few as possible that aren't considered regulars. By that I mean players that can't even make the subs bench on a regular basis. So much is up in the air at the moment as with Hutchinson and Sarmiento, both will depend on what their clubs want to do with them and if they are for sale and how much the clubs want for them. Over the past two seasons we have always made provision for a few players to come in when the January window comes around. Regular current first teamers I suggest will be given the chance to prove themselves in the Prem and a few reinforcements will be brought in. These won't be brought in to make up the numbers, but to challenge for a regular place. Therefore some of the current regulars may end up as subs/backup.

Speaking with RKD about Huddersfield tickets. How many do you think we could
at 14:53 7 May 2024

Wonder if they are the same 60,000 that bought shirts ? Ashton has often alluded to the fact that there isn't an upper limit as to what Town can achieve. I believe he is talking about every aspect of ITFC, not just on the pitch. There are still many past , present and future fans that are chomping at the bit to get inside PR on a match day. I suppose regarding any development of the ground all possibilities have to be taken into consideration. 30,000 isn't currently enough, 50,000 capacity too much. I don't agree with some who hark back at the Burley era when the club went out on a limb to build a new Churchmans and North stand and then after a 5th table finish were relegated. A few very important things are different. Owners that have multi millions behind them, a very different parachute payment setup and the players purchased will if anything be worth more than we paid for them. Unlike Matteo Sereni and Finidi George, both of whom we received no fee whatsoever and had to pay in the region of 2.5 million to pay up their contracts.

So…
at 14:35 7 May 2024

Bit early to say really as we don't know whether we will get Hutchinson and Sarmiento next season. We can guess who will leave. Think I am right that Aluko has already gone so to speak. Ball, Jackson, Donacien, Ladapo, Walton or even Hladky ? Baggott possibly although I thought I saw a player in him against Fulham. I don't see Moore coming back either on loan or permanently. He was a great fill in for Hirst but perhaps someone a bit more mobile. We would need a fullback as cover and I feel another centre back. With stronger and more mobile player in the Prem I have doubts about Woolfy. But what do I know. Whilst we have McKenna and Ashton I am sure they will get it right.

Congratulations!

Thanks for that. Nice to see people who appreciate, as we do, the effort, desire and hard work from top to bottom that has been put into making Town a Premier League club. We know it won't be easy, we know that a few sensible pennies have to be spent. But why should we be that concerned when we know the right people are at the helm of the good ship ITFC. As our CEO said everything from all aspects of the club have to be spot on. One part of the jigsaw that's missing or doesn't fit and it's doesn't work. Fortunately through the owners, management, manager and all the backroom staff things fell into place. We weren't as some would have it said " lucky" yes some things went for, some against, but we got results when needed and only lost six games all season. 96 points and 92 goals with our top scorer nowhere to be seen in the list of top goalscorers. Is it really too much to ask for some others to give us credit. We have had many accolades from top people who know the game and just how hard it is especially back to back promotion. So thanks to those giving us credit and for those not, well we really don't care.

Dear oh dear, what a sad bunch. Their achievements you could write on the back of a postage stamp. But then I'd hate to waste £1.25. Our problems over the last 20 odd years have been a propensity to get in bad managers run by owners that either overstretched themselves or gave up after a few seasons of giving money to managers that hadn't a clue. We never had parachute payments that allowed us to bounce back and whilst I begrudgingly give the Budgies some credit for having to sell players when relegated and get in the likes of Pukky they nevertheless got and are still getting vast amounts of money through these payments. Yes we have Gamechanger behind us now and another £120 million added recently far more has been spent on facilities than on players. That may now have to change, but I am sure spending won't be reckless. Sad really that anyone should begrudge us a small bit of glory after 22 years and as the stats show whether others like it or not it has been a record breaking achievement.
