McCarthy: Late Winners Aren't a Cunning Plan!
at 23:04:52

Well done Big Mick...football poor but results matter and all those constantly complaining that we don't spend enough or play beautiful footy, look what's happening to Derby. Him and TC have created a team who work tirelessly for each other and I'd prefer to watch that than a load of over paid mercenaries who couldn't give a.....

McCarthy: Mutual Respect Between Players and Fans
at 09:06:21

This is why everyone should love Big M and TC....the football is not great (which is why the get criticised easily after any loss) but they have brought in a group of players, made them better and fostered a team spirit so they are all fighting for each other and the club.

Under Keane and Jewell, we had a load of mercenaries who couldn't care less, had no appreciation for the support and cared only for cash. They were such grim days.

It's not Burley style football but the last few years have been just as enjoyable and what ever the result on Saturday, we should just be appreciative of what they have done for the club.

Reo-Coker Determined There Will Be No Repeat
at 15:17:24

Blaggers: He was an absolute joke last night - I find his comments ridiculous because he was the main culprit. Slow, lazy, fat, overpaid with a massive ego to boot. Reason we are in such a mess - loads of loan players who don't give a monkey's about our club.

If you told me two years ago that Mick McCarthy was going to be our manager I would have openly wept but he is the man we need now to give these overpaid prima donnas a kick up the arse or show them the door.

We need to sign players who want to play for this club and start bringing through the youth as Palace have so successfully done as they showed last night.

Jewell to Speak to Evans In Morning
at 08:18:16

Good post Marcus - pretty much how I felt at every management appointment. For me, no more old skool managers. Owen Coyle plays a good brand of football is young and hungry - lets go for him (although I'm not sure he would come to us which sums up the state of our club at the moment).

Jewell Won't Quit as Redknapp Speculation Grows
at 19:27:37

Arghhh - those names scare me Floridaboy - football under a McCarthy or McLeish team would be so dire. This will probably be laughed about but I think Glen Hoddle's the man. Know he's been out the game for a while but it's well known he wants to get back into the game and I am confident that he will deliver football we like to see at Portman Road. Just ban him from talking about disabled people!

Harry Redknapp will not come to Ipswich - he commutes from Bournemouth. I have a feeling it will be Mick McCarthy and we will have another two years of mediocrity. Sorry, to be miserable but these are miserable times.

Jewell Won't Quit as Redknapp Speculation Grows
at 18:44:08

Oh dear oh dear. What a mess. The chances are that he won't be here for long but there will be no point celebrating. I cannot trust Marcus Evans to make the right appointment. He is not a football man and his advisors are old school footy folk. We will just get in another old school dinosaur who will bring in old premier league players on big wages who do not give a monkey's about our club.

Town Talking to Former Loanee Fuller
at 07:35:07

This is becoming a joke. Jewell is an old school football manager with old school ideas which is why we are bringing in old school players. These players do not care about the heritage of our club and are just seeing out their career by putting in a performance every now and again. It is a big reason why there is a drinking culture within the club and very little concern between the team if we win or lose. Fuller will be his prize signing and we will face another season struggling in the Championship.

The greater problem is that our owners are not football people or the real problem is that they have not hired a football man to run the club. Jewell is one of these managers who can sell ice to eskimos (think ron atkinson, terry venables, ian dowie etc). Managed to blagg his poor performace over the last 18 months on injuries, bad luck, chopra's gambling etc and now managing to persuade them to go for some more players who have got star names from their perfomances3-4 years ago.

I have not been on here screaming for Jewell's head - in fact, I have stayed quite composed on the whole mattet considering what has been going on over the last 18 months. Jewell needs to go but that won't happen for a good few months but before that we need to get rid of Clegg and get in someone who understands football, the clubs traditions and will not full for the old school manager bullsh*t.

In the mean time, I will continue t shudder every time a new transfer target is announced. Happy days!

Jewell: Town the Better Side Before the Break
at 06:29:17

I was out in Brighton after the match and took a fair bit of stick for the banner that was unfolded before the game criticising Brighton of being a sell out club (due to the Amex sposnsorship if the stadium). I didn't see it but was at a loss to explain why a certain number of our fans would do such a thing. Why should we have any gripe against Brighton and the whole message smacks of stupidity - they nearly went bust a few years ago and if it wasn't for Dick Knight, they wouldn't be around today. The amex sponsorship is a community deal so is hardly selling out (nowhere near as bad some other stadia sponsorships in the country). The banner only served a purpose of giving us a bad name and making us look a little bit thick - nice work lads.

Jewell Hugely Disappointed
at 18:54:18

Woodbridgian, I completely agree with you. I am so fed up of watching players whose only interests is picking up their over inflated wages each week . Under Keane and Jewell we have effectively had pretty much the same leadership - both tactically clueless, used Evans budget to buy journeymen football men and just hope it might just work. It hasn't and it's driving me insane.

We need a young manager who understands the football playing traditions of our club, who will be given time to sort the academy out and develop a young and hungry team who want to play for the shirt.

Jewell: We Deserved More
at 22:51:37

Dozzells_Bobblehat, I don't think we should be relying on loan signings - I agree with you that Andrews, Collins and Stockdale did well for us but they don't have our club at heart - we are a stop gap for them to get more first team action, prove themselves so they can get back in their teams or get a lucrative signing somewhere else. It just sums up where we have come as a club and it's pretty depressing.

Also, I was thinking about Sonko today whilst watching the match. He got a good reception from the Reading fans but they got rid of him as he is not up to their standard and if you asked any Reading fan if they would want him they would all say no. We are not even hanging onto Reading's coat tails these days and the stick we took from their fans highlighted that point exactly.

We are now a pretty average Championship club and the only thing to be happy about is that we have not followed Sheff Wed, Sheff Utd, Charlton, Preston etc (yet).

Jewell: We Deserved More
at 20:00:48

Really disappointed today. The thing is, we did chase and harry their players all over the place today until the goal went in so I can't fault the effort. My worry is that we don't ever seem to have a set formation - I think PJ is putting teams out there and gets lucky for a few matches but gets found out for most - I don't think he is much of a tactician and my Derby mate's concerns for us seem to be ringing true.
I don't like to hark back to the old days but at least under Burley you could see what he was doing even if it didn't pay off and we lost. We gave him time because he was slowly building a team which could play football and we were confident that he would succeed in the end which he did.
Even under Magilton, I went to games confident that we were going to at least have a go as we did show true quality at times.
The Jewell era just seems to be following the same pattern as the Keane years where we are just throwing money at high profile players and just hoping they can re-live their golden years again and then can gel as a team.
My only pleasure these days seem to be about the players putting in some effort which is a bit of a depressing situation to be in as we should be competing for promotion with the amount of cash we have spent (on wages if not on transfer fees).
I am not screaming for PJ to go but I don't think the future is at all bright. Give him a year and if he doesn't do owt in that time, let's get a young, hungry, manager who believes that football should be played in the right way.

Jewell Apologises for Worst Defeat in Management
at 23:32:50

I am very concerned about our club. I don't want to knock Jewell but my mate who supports Derby told me what state he left their club in and it worries me that he is going down the same track. Too many experienced players, playing their final years out but on huge wages - taking the money and showing little fight or concern for our club.
How much money did we pay Delaney to not leave on a free next year? Think it would make me ill if I found out the truth.
I went today and all I could think about is teams like Sheff W, Sheff Utd, Charlton, Plymouth - mis-managed and now languising in the lower leagues - there is absolutely no reason why we will not end up in that situation which is pretty scary.
Worth saying something of the support also - I have no issues with the language, the singing and all that has been complained about lately but I do find it utterly embarrassing when our fans feel the need to copy other teams chants or in today's case, Man City's Poznan. Don't you have any self respect - looked like a bunch of ****s

McParland: I\'ve Never Been Beaten Like That
at 21:54:19

I beg to differ StavengerBlue. O'Driscoll stands out a country mile and I'm disappointed not many people have got behind him being appointed. His brand of football is bang on with the style our best teams have produced. He is young and is obviously going to be a major talent over the next few years and would have been perfect for us. I know Sheff Utd were scared off by Doncaster's compensation demands but I reckon he would have forced their hand to be a bit more reasonable so he could join us.

Today was humiliating not for the scoreline but for the type of football we played - we need to get back to the Robson / Lyall / Burley style of football rather than the Duncan / Keane rubbish and O'Drisoll would have been the man to deliver it.

McParland: I\'ve Never Been Beaten Like That
at 21:25:42

I have to agree with Ramseyn, I was in the away end and I thought our support was pretty average. It wasn't as if we sung from start to finish - we knew we were going to lose so we should have not worried about the footy and had a good old sing song. My feeling is that there were too many home fans there today as the season ticket supporters snapped up the tickets - shame.

Did anyone notice the Chelsea / Ipswich scarves they were selling outside the ground by the way? The cheek that they assume that we would snap them up as it was some sort of ahievement to be playing them! Saying that, I did see one of our supporters wearing one on the way home. On the piccadilly line, wearing our away shirt, really bad haircut, looked a bit "special" - you know who you are and you should be ashamed!
