Barnsley-Bolton League 1 playoffs
at 21:40 3 May 2024

Apparently so.

Etymology
This unique type of goal was named after Argentine striker Cesareo Onzari’s corner kick that spun directly into the goal for Argentina in a 1924 friendly against Uruguay, the reigning Olympic champion.

Noun
Olympic goal (plural Olympic goals)

(soccer) A goal scored directly from a corner kick without any other player - on either team - touching or otherwise deflecting the ball into the goal.

I’ve never heard that phrase before - but it’s only within the last couple of seasons I actually realised what a panenka penalty and a Rabona is. I simply behind with the times.

Who do you think is happier with their season?
at 11:23 3 May 2024

I might be misremembering but I thought that Liam Gibbs was very reluctant to leave. But due to the takeover, and ME incompetence prior to it, he was left with little choice but to leave for that lot. I could well be wrong on this.

Good god. Imagine being Emilia Fox

Not that long ago they were both on a celebrity version of Gogglebox and he came across as quite funny and likeable.

I guess that what happens to people when they become radicalised and sink further and further into that wretched rabbit hole. He’s not the first person it’s happened to and unfortunately won’t be the last.

New fans and returners
at 10:11 3 May 2024

Unfortunately life sometimes gets in the way of supporting Ipswich and regularly attending matches.

I attended regularly (both home and away) for many many seasons but then my partner and I started a family and I made the conscious decision that I wanted to spend my weekends with my them rather than going to every home and away game.

I’m not having a dig at the OP but it does annoy me when some fans point fingers at others for not attending. I only go to a few matches per season now but I still consider myself every much a loyal supporter as a season ticket holder.

Remember Maidstone (n/t)
at 17:36 2 May 2024

A good manager learns from bad results. Therefore, I do not for one second believe that KM will be thinking ‘job done’. He’ll insist on the squad being completely professional, not showboating or showing signs of complacency.

The Maidstone result, though embarrassing, will have helped KM improve as a manager.

So Huddersfield

I imagine most footballers are highly competitive and hate the idea of opposition fans and players celebrating promotion etc in front of them. I think that this might give them extra motivation but they are where they are for a reason.

Another keeper question and one inspired by Cooper on Life's a pitch

But at 5ft8 there’s no way he would have become a professional keeper nowadays.

According to Wikipedia Paul Cooper is only 5ft11 - strange to think that if he was just starting out now, most professional clubs would consider him far too short. No way Clive Baker will be a professional keeper now.

It’s hard to ascertain which keeper will be deemed good enough as most didn’t use their feet to the same extent to what’s demanded of them now. I do remember Serini being quite cultured - so maybe him.

Players should get retrospective bans for simulation

Fouling an opponent is cheating - it’s trying to gain an advantage, exactly like diving.

But what’s the difference between diving for a penalty and a defender grabbing hold of an attacking player at a corner? - or a defender deliberately colliding into a striker to let him know he’s there?

Both are cheating - I don’t really understand why one form of cheating is considered much worse than the other.

On reflection, sincere apologies.
at 20:14 23 Mar 2024

Think the last few weeks I’ve been unnecessarily aggressive to some and given Phil etc too much unnecessary hassle to deal with. Apologies to him and I probably owe GlasgowBlue an apology as well.

Without looking for sympathy, in real life I’ve become far too shouty and needlessly confrontational which isn’t ideal for family life.

As I said, not looking for sympathy but I’m going to seek help as I’m not coping that well.

I’ll probably come off here for a little bit - see you guys ok the Premier League.

Is this all desperately horrendous
at 19:45 22 Mar 2024

Their comments aimed at us seem to be increasingly desperate.

They never seem to acknowledge the fact that their years of ‘dominance’ over us coincided with the Marcus Evans years. Now we’re heading in the right direction, they seem to be trying be clutching at straws or choosing to live in a state of delusion.

Drinking game suggestion - every time MA says ‘football club’ or ‘oxygen’ you have to take a swig of a strong drink. How long will you last?

Me - around a minute.

Only one or two have said that so your bingo card will look pretty empty. You should have gone for posters who think it’s overpriced - that’s where the money would have been.
