| News Comment | Town Confirm McCarthy and Connor to Leave at End of Season at 11:15:52
Regardless of what the majority of fans think of Mick he deserves alot of credit for what hes achieved with limited money and limited players, we were looking like relegation fodder when he took over but he stabilized and turned a group of players into a hard working unit and for a couple of seasons gave us a club to be proud of again. The football for the best part has been pretty terrible however i believe he played to the strength of the players he had at his disposal which for the most part are limited footballers. His attitude towards the fans has slightly soured his final months at the club but i for one believe he did do a good job here and that some fans seem to easily forget what the club was like when he took over. What needs to happen now is even more important than Micks leaving, the right manager needs to be appointed, with the right ideas (fresh ideas) and the fans need to get behind the team for the remaining games with Mick in charge Things are not going to change overnight and who ever comes in needs to be given time. A good read, i agree that the club seems to have lost its ID along the way, maybe its down to the way ME runs the club, it has always felt more like a business under him, i personally dont feel that he truly loves the club not like Sheepshanks did or the Cobbolds before that. Its a sad state of affairs as realistically without the money he has put into the club i imagine we may have gone out of business so its difficult to say he didnt save the club, however as a businessman i feel previous managers and higher spending has made him causatious, the club is losing money and why should he put millions of pounds in to something he isnt likely to get a return on? In respect of the McCarthy situation, i also agree with what andygri has said about McCarthy doing a good job, with the funds he has had and players hes brought in he turned the club around, the 2013/14 season where we finished in the top 10 for the first time in forever felt like the beginnings of something good again, the next season (well first half of the season) we were very good and although we just about scraped into the playoffs it was still a season where you felt proud to get behind the team again, i feel that Evans should have invested in the summer between the playoffs and the following season he didnt and therefore never really built on the start of success. The football is awful to watch however its the same football being played as when we got into the playoffs except nobody cared as much because we were winning games. I feel that Mick has probably taken the team as far as he possibly can and given the money he has spent and positions we have finished i feel he has done a decent job however sometimes things just dont work anymore and Mick seems to be too stubborn to see it. Thanks for bringing some pride back to the team Mick (albeit for only a couple of seasons) but a fresh start is needed |
| Blog Comment | Have I Really Fallen Out of Love With Ipswich Or Have I Just Grown Up? at 12:52:39
Good stuff, i think being a football fan you have to accept that it isn't always going to be winning trophies and normally the lows will out score the highs. My first season (i remember) was the Div 2 championship winning season and i was hooked from then, i grew up a child of the 90's where you were almost seen to be a weirdo if you did not support / glory hunt Man Utd but i stuck by the blues, through relegation and various playoff heart aches eventually returning back to the promised land in the 99/00 season. The next season made you feel proud to be a town fan i can only imagine that it was a similar pride felt by fans who watched the team of 78 or the boys of 81, obviously it didn't and we definitely should have come back up but didn't. Over the next 13 or so years the club lost its way its identity you could say, we had a couple of brief flashes of a potential return 07/08 and then 14/15 but as you well know it just wasn't meant to be. I dont think its falling out of love or growing up i think its just a case of being realistic and not expecting the world. I have a young son who i hope will one day head down to Portman Road with me and will have something to grasp onto and a reason to stick by the town, hell if i did over the past 13 years surely there's hope for him?.......surely..... |
| Blog Comment | Living in a Non-ITFC Society at 16:10:14
A good little read!! Unfortunately thats the world we live in nowadays. People want to follow teams /sportsmen/woment who are the best. People will always be drawn to glory its natural you want to be successful or be part of something that is successful. Im sure next season there will be alot of new Leicester City fans however that will change if they have a bad season or get relegated. I like the fact that at 11 you are passionate about the club you have been brought up with. I remember being 11 and playing football over the park, people used to choose to be their favourite players Batistuta, Ronaldon, Figo, Zidane etc i would always choose to be Matt Holland or David Johnson because they were my players for my team. Keep following the town up or down! |
| News Comment | McCarthy Accepts "Big Part of the Responsibility" for Defeat at 11:21:07
The most annoying this is we will probably get something at Wolves which will keep us (the fans) clinging onto the faint hopes of the playoffs for another week at least. I find it embarrassing that we are still in with a chance of getting into the top 6 we are by far the worst team in the top ten. We huffed and puffed through tuesdays game (against the majority of Blackburns 2nd string) and we huffed and puffed again Saturday. You cant expect to win games when you play Hyam, Skuse and Douglas, we need to start playing Pringle and Bru just to add some creativity in the middle then you can bring on defensive options to see games out. Its just so boring and predictable watching us lump it forward, teams defend it too easily however Mick has no plan b at all..... |
| News Comment | McCarthy: Beaten By a Better Side at 10:50:07
I just find us boring to watch, very 1 dimensional very predictable it was plain to see after 15 minutes that the long ball up to Murphy wasnt going to work. Michael Dawson is a too good of a defender to lose aerial battles and you would think we would change the play we play to effect the game however unfortunately as it showed in the 2nd half of last season we dont have a plan b we dont have good enough players to actually play the ball around (which Hull clearly did) they never looked panicked on the ball they never whacked it long and aimless to no one and it seemed (at times) like they had an extra player as someone was always free and available. I just dont know what has happened this season, lack of investment (yes) but the squad isnt much different to last season and on paper our strongest 11 isnt a bad team, however i just find we lack the commitment and effort of last season, we seem to huff and puff our way through games where as last season as least we gave are all, its tiring to watch. The playoffs are a mighty big ask now. |
| Blog Comment | Luke Chambers Will Be a Town Legend at 09:46:19
A very good read however please do not take what I am going to say the wrong way, I love Luke Chambers passion and pride to pull on his shirt but to say this season he has improved at right back makes me laugh. The amount of goals we concede from his side is scary, his thrown ins are probably worse than Knudsens long aimless balls down the line, a Chambers ball down the line generally goes into touch and he gives the ball away a lot. However talent aside he is a good captain and a good example to young fans that I can agree with however as a player surely you would want to be remembered for your footballing talent and not your ability to do a fist pump? |
| News Comment | Blackburn Game Set for Switch at 14:22:44
It's not the clubs fault that the game had to be switched from a Saturday to a Tuesday I can't believe people are considering not renewing there season ticket because of it!?!?! Some people i just don't get at times. I understand it's more difficult coming to mid week home games if you have to travel a fair distance to get here but you can't blame ITFC for the rescheduled game it's not their fault, surely as a fan of football you would know the risk of games being rescheduled? Lord forbid if we get snow and a game is called off as that would probably be the clubs fault to |
| News Comment | Town Topic: The Greatest Derbies at 11:30:50
ive got a couple of favourites 3 - 2 at PR Quinn, Gio (pen) and Stead which pretty much relegated them atmosphere was immense and i also have found memories of winning 2 - 0 at Carrow Road with Fab and Bent on the scoresheet. |
| News Comment | McCarthy: Little in It Other Than the Goals at 11:47:04
we were poor yesterday however it was the kind of game where if it had of ended 0-0 you wouldnt have been surprised. might seem strange however there first goal if it doesnt clip Berra's heel i think Chambers clears it, however the flip side nobody tracked Johnsons run and i think Chambers went to ground too early. The 2nd goal was just disgusting, i hate goals like that just rubbish and i hate that Grabban celebrated it like it was the greatest finish ever. other than the Jerome chance that Bartoz saved they didnt really create alot. Smith needs to be dropped and Chambers needs to be switched back to centre back, abit harsh to moan at the midfield when most of the time they are bypassed by our predictable long ball, if we start playing through our midfield and less predictably then there is still a chance we can finish strongly. The question is do we have a plan b? - lets focus on the next game the Norwich game is done and dusted and we cant change it, we win the next 2 games thats 6 points out of a possible 9 and suddenly yesterday doesnt really matter. |
| News Comment | Whoever Wins On Sunday Will Go Up - Notes for Norwich at 21:10:04
i really hope we beat them on Sunday many to shut them up and even the score. its going to be a tough game we need to be tight for the first 20 minutes and if we get to 60 minutes at 0-0 or in a decent position i can see us getting something out of the game. i'd love us to get all 3 but i would settle for a point just t shut them up. | News Comment | Town Draw Aston Villa Away at 11:33:35
i remember the 3 - 1 defeat at Portman Road, could've been 8 - 1 if Savo Milosevic could actually score a goal lol i think we could beat them this time round!! COYB!! |
| News Comment | Town 0-3 Sheffield Wednesday at 17:44:58
most worrying of all is our goal difference which now stands at -16! The next nearest team to us has -6 at the end of the season goal difference could mean everything!! whoever does take the reigns has a mammoth tasks ahead of them - trying to keep the faith COYB!! |
| News Comment | Clegg: Long List of 34 Names at 08:06:59

| News Comment | Town Topic: Ten Years After at 14:00:48
Those were the days!! i remember being able to go down most saturdays with my dad, used to cost around £20 for the both of us, sitting in Churchmans watching David Johnson net game after game!! We could entertain and destroy teams at the same time!! The sad truth is that football is lot different nowadays back then teams struggled (your Bury's, Crewes etc etc ) where as now they seem to be more matched and maybe thats why things arent so great, the standard of teams has improved. However lets not take away those glorious years, we were unbeatable at PR exciting to watch and those were some of the best years ive had watching football. One day i hope we are able to bring this back.........one day...... |
| News Comment | Pablo Back in Spain at 15:28:32
decent player, the only played i can remember town having who could actually hold the ball up, i miss him twisting and turning defenders in the 6 yard box! The thing that makes me laugh most about some Ipswich fans is they're ability to turn on a former player who undoubtedly played their best football for the club i.e. Pablo, Reuser etc yet when they were playing for Town those people were their biggest fans. its a sad world......
