McCarthy Appointment Reportedly Close
at 09:08:53

To me it's the club's structure that needs sorting out now. We need a footballing heavyweight on board between Evans and the manager. With an anonymous owner and a CEO with no footballing nous we will continue to flounder.

There was no way an inspired, brave choice of manager would have been made under the current regime. No Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, no Karl Robinson. There just isn't the gravitas at the club for a confident, ballsy decision like that.

McCarthy might be a tad dull but he's fairly tough. He will come in and hopefully sort out some of the mess and we'll make some kind of progress but, in my eyes, it won't be groundbreaking unless the structure above the manager changes.

Inevitably when things don't go right the manager will feel isolated and confidence will again disappear too swiftly. With recent managers this has been the pattern. There has been nobody to keep them motivated, keep them on their toes, nobody to share problems and bounce ideas off. A stronger, more respected figure to negotiate transfers.

It seems insane that this has not been addressed. Evans must be a smart man to have got to where he is. It surely wouldn't break the bank to bring somebody in. Even let Clegg continue with day to day running of the club but bring in a footballing heavyweight to work alongside him.

I can see how owning a football club could be fun and I can see how, in time, you would feel the need to dabble in the football decision making. However, I would appeal to you, Mr Evans, to put ego to one side and put your business hat back on. It was not long ago, under Keane, that we had 22,000 supporters per game and we now have around 17,000. Please put in place a structure that is based on long-term thinking. You will ultimately find this more rewarding. And so will the supporters of the once mighty, ITFC.
