Luton Eyeing Walton Claim

Whoever ends up being keeper at Kenilworth Road next season will certainly be kept busy... Hopefully, it won't be Christian.

Burns Impresses on Wales Debut

Interesting. Maybe we could have Wes at left wing-back and (a hopefully fully fit) KVY at right wing-back.

Incidentally, surprised that KM didn't give Kane more of a run at left wing-back (during rare times when he was fit), given he used to play him there in the Spurs youth team, and also how underwhelming Penney and Thompson were in that position last season!

Charlton Athletic 2-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 23:27:29

Wow, we are just awful aren't we?! “Terrible” was how Talk Sport described us at the final whistle. I think a major shake up in line-up and tactics is needed for Saturday. I'd go for:
GK: Walton
RB: Donacien or KVY
CB: Edmundson (c)
CB: Nsiala
LB: Penney
RM: Aluko
CM: Harper or Carroll
CM: Humphreys or Barry
LM: Chaplin
F: Norwood
F: Jackson

We can't sink much lower, so we might as well start sidelining those waste of space midfielders (Evans, Morsy, Fraser) that PC brought in but who have never really looked like they want to be here - and even less so now. Though Bonne hasn't scored recently he can't be blamed for the non-existent service he is getting from the centre of midfield. That having been said, I think he could do with a rest, and Norwood has at least regularly scored at this level, whilst Jackson found the net twice last week, which is more than can be said for anyone else in the squad!

Cook: From a Winning Position We Found a Way to Give It Up
at 19:00:45

I went to the game today (first time I've seen Town since Jan 2020). I was sat amongst the Cambridge fans. They were baffled as to why Paul Cook, in his infinite wisdom, substituted Town's two best players (by far) today: Aluko and then Chaplin. I was equally confused by that logic. Both those players had held on to the ball really well all game (Aluko's touch is incredible, ditto Chaplin's close control). Once those two went off we couldn't retain the ball down their end, which resulted in greater possession and more confidence, with the inevitable consequence of their 88th minute equaliser. Other than Sone and Conor I thought Cameron Burgess played well. The midfield trio of Morsy, Fraser and, especially, El Mizouni were ineffective. For a team of our supposed quality to not manage a single shot on target in the second half (and very few off target shots, for that matter) is quite embarrassing given that Cambridge, on the evidence of today, are a very mediocre team.

Burton Albion 2-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 18:22:18

I'm still confident about how things will work out for us or this season. But let's not kid ourselves about just how poor Paul Cook's start at Portman Road has been. I think even Hurst had a better win percentage by this point in his tenure. All the other other ex-managers who are routinely lambasted on here: Keane, Jewell, McCarthy, Lambert, all had better starts to their time at ITFC than PC has had. Paul needs to stop deflecting entirely legitimate questions from journalists and to up his game. And fast.

Joining Town Keane's Biggest Regret
at 16:11:50

Not really that interested in what RK has to say about his time at Ipswich. It was a few years ago now, he's entitled to that view, and there's no denying the club was poorly run at that time by inexperienced football people above him (such as Clegg). To be fair, I thought that was quite a fun and enjoyable little interview.

Matheson: United Goal the Highlight of My Career So Far

Matheson: I Got a Call at Half-Four

And although David Wright was the last capable right back we had (with the exception of KVY's five minutes of play so far for us), I also like watching Jaime Peters in that role in the season after DW left. Jaime's career seems a weird one — it appears he never kicked a ball after aged 25, but no mentions of him being injured. That guy, like Danny Haynes in largely the same era, could really motor! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaime_Peters

Almost right Gforce, but not quite. David Wright was a really decent right back for us, and he left a mere 10 and a half years ago, as opposed to 20!

Lambert: Totally Deserved, We Dominated the Game
at 20:55:52

Paul, there were at least 12 games there where Ipswich did not win a single game, league or cup. Commenting on this fact, and being a little concerned about it - particularly given the lower division we now find ourselves in for the first time since the 1950s - does not make fans “idiots”. Please, don't ruin the great bridge-building work you did with the fans during the first few months of your tenure by turning into the kind of unkind, potty-mouthed numpty who attacks fans for very little reason. We had enough of that with Mick McCarthy, thanks. You are better than that. Also, the fans deserve better than that (irrespective of the fact that in the previous century individual fans may, or may not, have won a Champions League winners medal with Borussia Dortmund, “the past is a foreign country” as Hartley rightly said). Please, enough of the unwelcome and unnecessary hostility. Onwards and upwards, and well done to all (including, of course, management) on a great effort today. COYB! And am looking forward to being at Portman Rd next weekend when I will cheer on the team, and the management, with gusto!

Ipswich Town 4-1 Accrington Stanley - Match Report
at 01:27:10

Blimey, bit chippy isn't he?! Paul, your team won 4-1, try and enjoy it! And less of the bad language please, we had a belly full of that under McCarthy thanks. Also, for the love of God, will you please stop droning on about what you did with Dortmund in the last century. As LP Hartley said, the past is a foreign country. Us fans are interested in how Town get on in their next game but we really couldn't give a monkeys about what you did or didn't do in Germany and Scotland decades ago. Plus no one likes a show off.

Lambert on Rotation: We'll Be a Better Team For It

I respectfully disagree, Paul. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. That policy always worked well enough for great Ipswich, Liverpool, Man Utd etc teams of the past.

Walters on Keane: I'm Possibly the Only One That Stood Up to Him, Maybe That's What Bothers Him Most
at 16:18:39

In addition to everything else that's being said about Keane here, I never thought (and still don't) that he was half as good a player as he (and many others) seemed to think he was. A decent player certainly, but let's face it, he wasn't even the best central midfielder in the Man Utd team (step forward, Scholes). And when it comes to combative/leadership role midfielders I would place Keane, in his prime, well behind the likes of Robson, Souness, Wark and Vieira in their prime; those four were all able to do what Keane could do, but also much else besides. Finally, would the Republic of Ireland have got to within a penalty shoot-out of a World Cup semi-final if Keane had not excused himself from proceedings by throwing a hissy fit? I think it's unlikely.

Keane Reignites Walters Spat
at 13:39:20

It's startling just what a pathetic little excuse for a human being Roy Keane is. His CV: a decentish midfielder, a poor analyst, a dreadful manager. He is devoid of any wit, charm, intelligence or decency. As I recall, in his defence, he likes dogs. But then so too did the man who led Germany from 1933 to 1945.

Lambert: There Was No Respect for the Place
at 15:27:38

Good lad for raising this and forcing ME to do something about it. Surprised this hasn't been brought up more often in the past. I remember taking my seat for a game about this time last season and saying to a friend that the flags on the stadium looked knackered, worn and dirty and that the PA system was almost laughably bad, you expect better at a non-league stadium these days. In certain parts of the upper tier of the Sir Bobby stand the PA is practically inaudible, which is simply unacceptable.

Lambert Expresses Transfer Frustrations: It's the Way the Club's Run
at 14:26:00

I would be very surprised if PL is still with us by the second week of September. This is clearly an open letter to Evans to ask him in no uncertain terms to put his hand in his wallet before the end of the transfer window. If he doesn't PL will almost certainly be on his way, either by resigning or saying enough anti-Evans stuff that he will be fired. Completely sympathize with PL, I would't stick around much longer if I were him, the state we are in is going to harm his managerial CV, so much better for him to leave very soon before the whole situation gets a whole lot worse. What a grim state of affairs.

Robins Set High Price for Webster as Villa Bid Turned Down
at 16:20:19

Does make you wonder why Webster and Clarke were let go if they are as good as the experts seem to think they are, and why, in their place, Town were reduced last season to playing in central defence combinations of: Luke Chambers (tried hard, but no one is chasing his signature); an out of position midfield loanee; an ageing injury-prone pro on a short-term contract; and unproven players who previously had only played in League 1 and League 2. A sad reminder of the pronounced drift and lack of direction and foresight shown by the club in recent years. The end result: we got relegated, and are now also forced to look on as Bristol City and Portsmouth benefit financially far more than us from the sales of one-time Town players.
