Here's a horribly negative thought
at 11:29 30 Apr 2024

It probably would, yes. We'd all have to retire from being football fans.

Let's say we went up and stayed up, even stayed up comfortably. Not sure that would be as fun as this year because we wouldn't be winning quite so much.

Next year we'd be expecting to do well though. So we'd be less surprised and delighted at how good we are.

This season's going to be over in a few weeks.

And we will never see one this good again.

Biggest Match since Wembley 2000?
at 08:00 30 Apr 2024

If we draw then huddersfield becomes the biggest match since wembley 2000. Even if we win, huddersfield then becomes the biggest game.

Well that was a dreadful night’s sleep….

I'm doing my day the other way around. Have just finished work and get to go to bed in 5 hours or so. Game's on at 5am tomorrow. Not sure that's going to make sleeping any easier.

Humphreys is the most natural replacement. Left-footed, great delivery, good engine. I'd start him against huddersfield for sure. Might want to go clarke at coventry.

The emotional over-reaction thread
at 01:34 28 Apr 2024

I'm a bit odd. When it gets really tense, i go numb and don't really celebrate goals or get annoyed when we concede.

I'm in shot after benty scores at carrot road to make it 2-0 where everyone around me is going nuts and i'm just standing there breathing.

Summer shopping list whatever division we are in : THE DEFENCE (n/t)
at 01:21 28 Apr 2024

It's not the defenders. It's the playing style. Mick would have this team keeping clean sheets all the time. But we wouldn't be able to string two passes together and we wouldn't score any goals.

I know which i'd prefer.

We need more from Chaplin

Chappers' job is primarily scoring goals. If he's not scoring, we will question his impact. But he's a great finisher and i wouldn't drop him.

15 years is shaping up nicely to end
at 03:30 24 Apr 2024

Completely agree except for one detail. There's a good chance it will be the final. They've already caught up to West Brom and have arguably a more straightforward run-in. Imagine cheering on the budgies against russell martin's southampton in the semi to set up a playoff final. What a weird and delightful season.

At least we can look forward to another Russell Martin tantrum in a bit…
at 03:22 24 Apr 2024

No togetherness, no character and no fight apparently.

Should have signed some players with character and fight then instead of a bunch of man city youth team players. Muppet.

Something struck me as i watched them in the first half. It looked like they were way more interested in sexy first touches than passing the ball forwards. As soon as they did a sexy first touch and kept it away from a leicester player, they didn't even bother to look up for movement - it just went straight backwards to whoever was closest. I found myself thinking how much they'd benefit from mass in their team. No sexy first touch, but bags of character and fight and has zero interest in passing it backwards. Very glad we've got him.

or a Mick McCarthy team?

I'm struggling to answer after that. First half so boring i nearly fell asleep, second half completely inept.

Leicester are dreadful. They've basically already lost.

If we match leicester and leeds' results at the weekend and then beat coventry, we're top going into the last day.

I'll be honest, i don't love it. But the grass is always greener. It's probably ok in the grand scheme of things.

Think about why you're doing it. If you love hanging out with kids, go for it - you'll almost certainly be excellent. If you're doing it for the perks and convenience, think long and hard. That's why i did it and i'm not sure i'm doing a great job.
