at 12:01:40

QPR\'s Derry Confirms He Almost Joined Town
at 11:23:00

For all of Keane's faults I do sometimes feel he has been given a rough deal, he has clearly identified his targets in every transfer window but Clegg and co cant seem to put the deals together.

Although a holding midfielder wouldnt set the world alight, having a player of Derry's experience in the middle of the park would have made a massive difference this season, especially taking pressure off our defence when Big Mac, Delaney and Kennedy have picked up knocks, his experience would have been invaluable to our inexperienced players.

Keane has always said at the end of the day the buck has to stop with the manager, and I respect his honesty in interviews, but I feel his hands are tied, he was told to cut the wage bill and did so by losing a lot of experienced players but Clegg couldnt get his targets to put pen to paper and I feel he really needs to take responsibility for his role as well. Our season could have been massively different with a Derry and Chopra etc in the squad, ifs and buts I know but looking at this story Keane did his part in attracting the player, Clegg failed in his role to get the contract signed.

Managers Agree Town the Best Side on the Day
at 00:48:02

Fantastic result and a quality team performance to go with it. Tactics were spot on today and even when we went a goal down we stuck with it and ran boro off the park. The new shape with Hyam just behind Norris and Leadbitter looked very promising, glad to see Keane giving the younger players their chance to claim a place in the first team as well!!!

Good to see the team spirit throughout and Priskin getting on the scoresheet in the first game could make his season, early days I know, but with a few additions I think we could have a very exciting season!!!

Fülöp Completes Move
at 18:08:51

I think this is a great signing, very good keeper at this level and £750,000 is a bargain, especially when you consider Stoke agreed to pay £3million only a year or two ago!!!

Really like his attitude as well, not often players are willing to drop a division and take a pay cut in order to play football, can only be a positive role model for the younger players, and as others have said, could give Priskin a shot of confidence!!!

Second Wright Set for Palace
at 13:40:26

I wonder if Palace fans are already having a pop at Burley for picking up former players like some of our fans have done with Keane...

And why are people even making the comparisons between the two...Keane is our manager, Burley is now the Palace manager, bitching and moaning isnt going to change that so why not just support the players and staff we have for a change, its the first day of pre-season and people are already getting on their backs!!!

Stoke Back in Hunt for Walters
at 16:01:31

Could well be some truth in the story, but im not too sure about the amount...but given the choice between accepting a £4million bid for Walters or a £5million bid for Wickham in order to free up some tranfer funds, then id let Walters go any day of the week.

Although none of us know what he does behind the scenes, and it appears he does a lot given Keanes comments, and there is no doubting his effort levels, a player of his ability can be replaced and Id much rather have a skillful, pacey winger with a decent cross down our right wing anyway.

Keane Considering Deadline Move
at 15:13:44

oldmantractor...you're saying get rid of Keane but state the reason we are pulling away from the relegation zone is one of his signings?!? People seem to have a very confused opinion on some things. Lets not forget that Murphy was one of Keanes original targets and could have made a massive difference to our start of the season.

In my opinion the club had been treading water for a number of years and needed a massive shake up to start things moving in the right direction. With such a drastic change (getting rid of 15-20 players in the summer) of course it would take some time to let the dust settle, ok nobody thought it would take 14 games to get going, but after that our form has been respectable without being fantastic.

If we can have a strong finish to the season, get a few pacey playmakers in the summer we will be in a much stronger position than we have been in years. People expect instant success but all the great teams have been built over time, to get rid of Keane now would just delay us further as a new manager would need next season to get his team in and playing the way he wanted. ME gave Keane a 2 year contract and I fully expect him to be given that long (barring another poor start next year which I dont believe will happen), so lets just get behind the boys until the end of the season and see where things are then

Murphy Hopes Town and Sunderland Can Agree Fee
at 08:29:20

I still find it strange how so many people criticise Keanes man management skills, yes he can be direct, but if he was such a nightmare to play for then there is no way his Sunderland players, having experienced his management style before, would have followed him here and make comments like Murphys!!!

It may well be that we arent used to his straight talking assessments, but I for one find his honesty refreshing, if the team doesnt perform I'd much rather hear a manager admit the obvious rather than try to find excuses for the unexcusable!!!

With regards to signing Murphy, as long as a decent price can be arranged I think he has shown already that at this level he can do a decent job, if we can get him a decent/consistent strike partner then we might have a decent chance next season! Healy may well be that man but for me, he will need to prove himself before the end of the season. Unfortunately I dont think we would be able to get Colback, I think Bruce rates him and the more we play him the more his price goes up, but I wouldnt mind if he joins for another season long loan!!!

Keane: Upson Needs to Get a Move On
at 17:45:57

I think Keane will have had those chats behind closed doors when he offered him a contract extention and on a number of occassion throughout the season. He was going to be shown the door before Keane arrived, Keane obviously saw something in him and gave him the chance to prove himself with a year contract, and at the age of 20, he should have been knocking on the door all season if he wants to break the first team.

All Keane is doing is giving him a reality check, he has 3/4 months to prove he has what it takes to make the grade at this level or he wont be here next year.

Different players need to be managed in different ways remember, an arm around the shoulder will work for some and make others complacent, a kick up the arse like this can make some players drop their heads, but others will come out fighting to prove their worth, and if Upson wants to play at this level he needs to realise his potential and soon!!!

Keane Refuses to Be Drawn on Shittu
at 11:41:47

Shittu would be a good signing, strong and experienced, and read somewhere today that Michael Ball is on a free, might solve our left back problem...although not sure if he's still a bit injury prone??

Also saw that Sheffield United are looking at Marlon King on a loan, could well be worth a punt as he's a decent goalscorer at this level.

Keane: You Won\'t Play for Me Again
at 15:02:52

Well we all wanted change, and Keane certainly seems ready to do so!!! He is a man of his word, at his first press conference he stated that all he asked for was that players give 100%, if they didnt then they would be on their way, some of the players so far just havent responded and taken their opportunities to be part of a team (hopefully) going forward. Whether it is the pressure of the expectations or that they just arent up to the challenge who knows, but if they dont want to play for us then they rightly shouldnt get in the team.

Keane has inherited this squad and it will take time for him to get the right players and have them playing the way he wants. Some of the players he has brought in havent clicked straight away but most have only played bit roles so far this season, so lets all give them a chance to settle in first.

Once we get that first win under our belts I think we will look a different team, I like many think we need a commanding defender and midfielder (Sol and Hamann on a free would be good) to organise the team, which so far has been very young. The championship is always a tight league, usually 15-20 points from relegation to playoffs, so we really dont need to start worrying yet. I think the start of the season will be tough for any club with the amount of change we have gone through (releasing 14 players and selling others - most of which were rightly let go), come January we will be in a better position to judge where our team is at, until then I'll hold judgement. I think Keane has done a decent job so far, even if results havent gone our way, Town needed a wake up call and Keane is ringing the bells of change!!!

Keane Hoping to Sign Keeper Today
at 12:17:24

Could do a lot worse than bringing Sol to the club, and saw the other day Dietmar Hamann is a free agent as well, might have a season or two left in him, although not sure if he would want to play in the championship. Those two and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink...if he is still available, would be three experienced players all on a free transfer, what we save on the transfer fees could cover their wage expenses. They could only strengthen our squad and as we have quite a young team at the moment their experience and leadership down the spine of the team could make all the difference!!!

Town Reported to Have Signed Murphy
at 16:01:50

Would be a decent addition to the squad and I'm sure will be able to do a job for us at this level, just hope that if he does sign it doesnt mean Wickham will lose some opportunities to get first team football...I think Keane rates Wickham as highly as the rest of us so I dont think it will, but as Keane mentioned at 16 he might not be ready for first team action in every game of the season, so an extra forward would give us cover, and Murphy would allow us to switch from 4-3-3 to 4-5-1 without making subs!!!

Hyam and Murray Named in Young Squad for Shrewsbury Trip
at 20:56:00

Great to see Keane giving the young players a go, our main aim is of course promotion, and although everyone loves a good cup run, playing our first team for all those extra games may well dent our promotion hopes.

Win or lose, it will be great experience for the younger players who can benefit greatly from the experience with Keane on the touchline. It will also be a great opportunity for Keane to see who is ready to make the next step up, like he has already decided with Wickham. We have a much smaller squad this year so will be good to know we have a decent group of youngsters to act as cover if we pick up a few injuries!!!

Priskin Having Town Medical
at 17:38:20

Would be great if he does sign, I know a few Watford fans who seem to think he has a great all round game, but can get caught offside a few too many times, but is starting to mature into a real talent. Given a bit of time to settle I think he will be a great signing.

Noticed on the Watford website that they think there is a sell-on clause in the contract...anyone know what % we would be giving back to Watford should we sell him in the future?

Town Back in For Sunderland Striker
at 14:59:51

I cant see how people can see this as panic buying, Murphy was one of Keanes original targets, the fact that he came for a medical would suggest that he is interested in the move, and you can hardly blame him for at least having a look at Hull who would have offered him regular first team football in the Prem.

So Murphy might not be the goalscoring sensation we all want but he was a regular in the Sunderland team that got promoted, maybe he can do a job upfront which will create enough opportunities for others to score the goals we will need to mount a serious promotion challenge.

I really like the look of Priskin, lots of experience for someone so young, so certainly wouldnt mind him at the club as well. I really think Keane knows what he's doing and what it will take for us to improve, he has identified our weak areas and has so far strengthened well without throwing money away. I hope we can get someone else in before the start of the season but we need to give Keane a chance to get his squad together before anyone starts slating him. Not every buy will be a success, but he has already cleared a lot of deadwood and balanced the side, Magilton didnt do that in 3 seasons.

If we can be in the mix by the Jan transfer window we will be in a stronger position to attract a higher standard of player, and Keane will then have a better understanding of where we need to improve, lets not forget he has only managed us in 2 competitive matches so far, we need to have a little bit more patience and look at the bigger picture.

Keane Looking for Two More Strikers
at 11:56:51

I can see at least one of the two strikers coming in on loan, which wouldnt be such a bad thing. It seems we have been struggling to attract players, so if we can call in some good loans and put ourselves near the top by Christmas and the Jan transfer window I'd imagine players might be more likely to make the move with the chance of promotion to the Prem.

As for Jordan Rhodes, personally I would have liked to see him here for one more year and fight for a place in the team, especially with 7 subs this year he would have been more likely to get his chances, and I think given time him and Wickham would have complemented each other well!! However, it would seem that Keane rates Wickham (and rightly so), so if he does get in two more strikers Rhodes would have at best be 5th choice striker, and for the money offered it wasnt a bad deal, and was probably the best move for Rhodes, so good luck to him.

Jim "sour grapes" Magilton back to his best chatting crap as well, obviously he is hardly likely to say Ipswich are better, but he had enough money and time to put together the squad he wanted, which he did so really he is admitting the poor job he did here, but I just dont understand why he needed to make the comparison to Ipswich at all, just makes him sound a bit bitter, which is a shame because he was a good servant to the club and the comment is sure to get a few town fans backs up!!!
