This " relegated the season after " myth and spin seems to crop up a lot all over the place with MMÂ , MM falaciously often repeats it himself.
But it is very misleading and and mostly not the case at all. Where it is true with Wolves , that club was also relegated first in the same season he was sacked.
MM's Clubs ( before us ) have always been relegated in the same season he left them in :
Millwall were relegated in 95/96 season
This is the same season as McCarthy left them - he resigned in February to take Ireland job. They were to be fair in 9th position at the time he left. They were not relegated the season after.
Sunderland - MM Sacked in March 2006 - Sunderland were relegated the same season.  They were not relegated the season after.
Wolves - MM Sacked in Feb 2012 - Wolves were relegated the same season
However , Wolves were also relegated in the following 2012 / 2013 season.
