Blue Action to Stage Derby Coach Welcome
Wednesday, 6th Dec 2023 20:18

Town independent supporters group Blue Action are organising a coach greeting ahead of the derby against Norwich City at Portman Road on Saturday 16th December (KO 12.30pm).

The Blues will be looking to beat the Canaries for the first time since 2009.

Blue Action previously staged a hugely successful welcome for the squad ahead of the final home game of last season, the 6-0 hammering of Exeter City which secured promotion back to the Championship.

Fans are being encouraged congregate in time to meet the team coach as it arrives at Sir Alf Ramsey Way and Constantine Road at around 11am.

It's embarrassing that they are doing this.
It was special for the game against Exeter.
This cheapens it for just another game.
Save it for key matches or as a celebration of a good season.

Europablue…..Are you for real!
This is a fantastic idea….hopefully in time will be a permanent feature.
I hope they show the scenes on Sky for the world to see.
ITFC is back….bigger and better than ever.

Another 6-0 would be nice

Nomore4 Are you for real? You probably also wish it were Christmas every day!
It would be ridiculous if they did this every match. It gave us a major boost against Exeter in a very special match. It wouldn't have the same effect if we did it every time.
Of course, I'd love it if we beat Norwich, but I'd rather beat Leeds or Leicester.

Ok Europablue. We’ll see what the future has in store.
But for the Norwich match it’s a no brainer…..
Possibly the most special match since we last played them….
Almost 20yr of rubbing our faces in it.
This is a very very special match and occasion.

Do you think the players need to be told we want to win this one ?

Europablue added 09:18 - Dec 7
Nomore4 I'm glad you are going to enjoy it. I just don't measure our success in comparison to Norwich.
The Exeter game was way more significant. For the Norwich match, I'm hoping for another 3 points and I won't complain if we unnecessarily expend energy to press to score our fourth and fifth goals! If we lose it won't be as frustrating as losing to Leeds or West Brom.

Wow, @EuropaBlue, seriously, you really aren't reading the room are you? The downvotes tell it all.
This IS a "key match" and not just "another game". Something to be proud of and not "embarrassing" or "cheapens" it.
If you've not figured that out yet or need that explaining to you, you really shouldn't be "supporting" the Town.

Whilst i do not agree with Europablue, to question whether he should support ITFC is a bit much, he is allowed an opinion, again one i dont share but each there own.

I like the idea of this but nerves are big for me and i would hate for this to be extra fuel for them to get a scalp, as with any Derby form is out of the window, and whilst we are a far better side sometimes that just doesnt mean much. I am confident we beat them 9 times out of 10 though and i am on board for sure with anything that boosts atmosphere and highlights us as a club, because this club is just brilliant.

JewellintheTown I'm not trying to overmake my point, just responding to what others said about my comments. You're a bit unhinged to suggest that someone shouldn't be supporting Town unless they support them in exactly the way that you do.
TractorClarke is way more balanced with how he expressed his opinion. I absolutely agree that 9 times out of 10 we would beat Norwich, but all sorts of things could happen that would lead to us losing the match.

A lot of our fans have an inferiority complex when it comes to Norwich. We really shouldn't because we have so much more to be proud of in our history. I think they won the milk cup once and came second once.
Undoubtedly Norwich have been the better team since we were relegated from the Premier League, but being a yo-yo club doesn't really compare to what we did under George Burley fairly recently.
Everyone knows that we are the better club historically and at this very moment. I agree it would be nice to have an emphatic win against Norwich to underline this fact. A 1 nil win would also be fine. I'm also absolutely fine with losing both matches against them 5 nil but winning the league!

We shouldn't have a chip on our shoulder or overhype a particular opponent the way we do against Germany to the extent that we have lost matches against them because of our national mental block. The funniest thing is that the Germans don't even see us as a major rival. For them the big rival is the Netherlands!

I have full confidence in KM and his team. He and the team will feed off of the energy and passion of the support without getting too emotional. He will tread the fine line of understanding that in terms of the table, it is just another 3 points on the line, but local bragging rights are really important for many fans.

Europablue.....the last thing you want to do on this forum is have a mind of your own and speak common sense. It's all about being sheeplike and making friends nowadays. Of course the Leeds and Leicester games are more important, but there are people on here who'd cheer a Norwich defeat to either of these clubs even if it meant jeopardising our own chances. It's pointless trying to get through to them as their minds can't expand that far. It's an important game in its own right, and if this lot believe that waving their pretty coloured flares and feeling good about themselves on youtube somehow enhances the teams chances of putting on a good show then let them have their day. COYB.

Lets hope that this doesn't cause a problem. Some mindless idiots may see this as something to gate crash and ruin. I'm not saying Norwich fans but anyone could pose as such. but it's outside the ground and open to any group of idiots to turn up and ruin the day. Won't this also put extra pressure on the police on what is going to be a busy day for them anyway? I don't want to be a spoil sport but it's the game that matters and I'd rather the players be fully focused on that.

Can see both sides of the argument on this.

Depending on the result it could make a great day even better, on the other hand we could end up with egg on our face!

Time will tell I guess.

TractorClarke added 11:47 - Dec 7
I echo RegencyBlue, both arguments are valid.

I would say though, lets all calm down and accept different opinions on this, the last thing we need to be doing is going at each other. All things considered this IS a MASSIVE game, its a Derby we have not had in a long time and it does deserve attention and for us to hopefully enjoy the whole occasion as winners.

@TractorClarke and @EuropaBlue-

Please reread my post. I never suggested you should support town in "exactly the way I was" and if you don't you're not a Town supporter, I was saying if you hadnt FIGURED THAT OUT why OTHERS would do that and how big this was to them, you shouldn't be supporting Town. If you're a Town supporter, you GET IT, you understand why its a "big game" and therefore why people want to do this. AGREEING with this idea is a different thing entirely. I never expressed I agree with what they're doing & you SHOULD or you're not a Town supporter. Suggesting I'm "unhinged" because you didnt understand my point seems immature.

I GET IT, why others want to do this, but EuropeaBlue, you come across as not seeming to or believe others should do this, hence my comment "If you've not FIGURED THAT OUT yet or need that EXPLAINING to you, you really shouldn't be "supporting" the Town.".

I never suggested you weren't a Town supporter because you had a difference of opinion to mine just you didnt seem to understand why or agree that others would or should. You're entitled to your opinion.

Apologies' if that wasn't clear.

@JewellintheTown
I get what you are saying, maybe there is merit in your argument. It's just that saying "If you've not figured that out yet or need that explaining to you, you really shouldn't be "supporting" the Town." is unnecessarily aggressive and inflammatory. I'm sorry if me using words like "embarrassing" rubbed you up the wrong way.
I understand the rivalry with Norwich, but I don't think I'd ever live it like some fans do. I have a good friend who is a Norwich fan, of course I laugh at him, but I actually want Norwich to do fairly well. I'd be more than happy for us to get promoted automatically and Norwich win the playoffs if that meant that we could beat them in the Premier League.
Win, lose, or draw, KM won't let the result derail our season. He'll show emotion if we do win, but the next day he will be prepping for the next match.
