Town to Host Wolves in Carabao Cup Third Round
Wednesday, 30th Aug 2023 22:25

Town have drawn Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The Molineux club, who are 15th in the top flight, beat Blackpool 5-0 at home in round two last night. The teams have never met in League Cup action previously.

The teams last met in league action in the Championship in 2017/18 when Wolves won 1-0 home and away as they romped to the title and the Premier League.

Blues skipper Sam Morsy was born in Wolverhampton and started his career with his hometown club but left before making a senior appearance in the old gold.

Town, who beat Reading 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out last night following a 2-2 draw at the Madejski Stadium, are in the third round for the first time in eight years.

The tie, which was first out of the hat in this evening's draw, will be played in the week commencing Monday 25th September.

If there are players available better than we have then we won't be the only ones after them. I'm sure it's no where near as easy as some seem to think unless of course we just throw money around and that's not going to happen. I'm sure that the office at ITFC is incredible busy trying to do the right deals. Right for the team and right for the club. Our owners are investors not gamblers.

The transfer market has been incredibly slow this summer. The BBC Sports app which displays daily transactions is showing only a handful of moves at the moment when normally, at this late stage, the daily lists are quite long, so I would not be surprised to see a huge uplift in next 36hrs.
I would think that there is a lot of cat and mouse going on and one or two market moves will open the floodgates. I have no doubt MA is working his socks off at the moment and that in his usual style he will unveil at least two signings of players previously not linked to Town.
We are of course competing in a very unfair market when, due to parachute payments, some Championship clubs are paying many millions for players. Even Norwich are still living off parachute payments so we are shopping in a limited market place. If need be we can make it through to January without too much strain on existing squad and then buy what we need rather than buy now just for the sake of adding a couple of names just to make up the numbers and who may not be right for the internal relationships within the existing squad

Well, they will certainly be a big test for us. Will we be any kind of test for them?!

It's either a game where Ipswich get played off the park or a tight game and Ipswich can nick the winner. Hopefully our fringe squad players can step up and have their best game collectively.
