Town to Host Wolves in Carabao Cup Third Round
Wednesday, 30th Aug 2023 22:25

Town have drawn Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The Molineux club, who are 15th in the top flight, beat Blackpool 5-0 at home in round two last night. The teams have never met in League Cup action previously.

The teams last met in league action in the Championship in 2017/18 when Wolves won 1-0 home and away as they romped to the title and the Premier League.

Blues skipper Sam Morsy was born in Wolverhampton and started his career with his hometown club but left before making a senior appearance in the old gold.

Town, who beat Reading 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out last night following a 2-2 draw at the Madejski Stadium, are in the third round for the first time in eight years.

The tie, which was first out of the hat in this evening's draw, will be played in the week commencing Monday 25th September.

I'll take that. A good test and also something we could realistically take something from.

Excellent draw. Should be a good game and a candidate for live TV - oh I forgot Man Utd are playing.

I predict that KMc will stick with the 2nd 11 policy (a la Burnley last year) so it will be tough to use as a test. I’ll bet those 11 players are feeling excited now though. Should be a good crowd (based on the sell out at Reading which turned out not to be people buying tickets for points) and every chance we could get something from it. COYB

A great time ! I remember when Bully played for the England U21 against Albania and the Wolves lot brought 1000s. I was stuck in the middle of them in Churchman's ! I reckon we have a fighting chance !

Good draw! A decent Orem team at home will give us a test of where we are at. On a different note no news of these 2/3 signings Ashton expected? I fear if we fail to land a quality CB/Striker and maybe a winger we might be a thin in the ground of quality to compete for top 6. Deadline Friday midnight, a lot can still happen.

Well I guess within a short space of time now we’ll see if our Owners are as ambitious for our Club as we assume, and we would like, and want them to be.
Surely they can see we need another two / three Championship level Players to consolidate what level we now find ourselves competing at ?

will need a stronger team than we started with against Reading but doubt we will risk putting too many first choice players into it .

Well getting close to seeing if Ashton is going to get 2;-3 class signings in as the current team isn't top 6. We will see how ambitious we really are in the next 36 odd hours. We wont hold onto KmK if we don't have his ambitions.

If we are going to compete in the transfer market in the championship we've got to pay the going rate im afraid, teams are not going to do us any favours because we're Ipswich town. I can see McKenna getting frustrated if he can't get the players he wants.

I think it's fairly obvious we haven't been able to get in the players we wanted; otherwise, they'd have been here by now. I'm still hopeful we might get an addition or two before tomorrow night, but it's a tough market out there, and there are a lot of buyers, many of them richer than us. If we don't get anyone at all, we can still put up a good fight, but dreams of top six over a long season might have to be tempered a bit. Then there's always January, of course.

Steve_ITFC_Sweden - absolutely, but the parachute payment teams aren't getting all they want even. And then there's Sheffield Wednesday . . .
Like when you feel unhappy in hospital and realise that it could be a lot worse!

I think its very risky to settle for what you've got and just say it's a season of consolidation. I think automatic promotion is definitely out of the question but we should be aiming for top six. A season in the championship is very exhausting and it's plainly obvious we haven't got the strength in depth at the moment. We need to bounce straight back on Saturday to prove our impressive start is no fluke.
