Luton Eyeing Walton Claim
Sunday, 30th Jul 2023 11:52

Luton Town are reportedly eyeing Blues keeper Christian Walton.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Walton, who spent the first half of 2016/17 on loan with the Hatters, is on the newly-promoted Premier League side's shortlist of potential goalkeeping recruits.

Yesterday, it was reported that West Brom have accepted or are close to accepting a bid of around £3 million from Luton for their keeper Alex Palmer, another former Hatters loanee.

As such, the link with Walton would appear speculative, although we understand Luton have shown interest in the 27-year-old this summer.

The former Brighton keeper, who was in goal for Town as they drew 1-1 in a friendly with Luton at Colchester on Tuesday, has another year left on his contract with the club having an option for a further season on top of that and Town have no interest in selling their established number one.

Walton, who has repeatedly said he's happy and settled at Town, missed Friday’s friendlies at the Innsbruck Cup as a precaution due to a minor plantar fascia issue.

Unlikely but then again every player has their price.

The good thing now is that if somebody comes in for any of our players we are not going to roll over and virtually give them away.

Does not surprise me if true that they would want him as he was far more comfortable with the ball at his feet than Luton's goalkeeper. But hopefully 1 relegation season in the prem is not enough to lure him and I'm sure they wouldn't be offering him a massively higher wage considering he was our highest paid player and for a GK that's quite rare.

Playing for a bigger club in front of 30,000 fans or go to a small club who will be relegated double lively in front of 9000. Unless we don’t want him anymore which I’d find hard to believe then there’s no news here

Can’t see it at a much bigger club anyway and Luton will be down next season anyway so what will gain be !

The notion of big/small clubs has no real meaning anymore if the smaller club is a league above in the PL. Luton will be able to offer bigger wages than us. Plus, if he performs well then a bigger PL might well come in for him.

losing Walton would be a blow ,and ive been fearing this could be a possibility for weeks, Hopefully he stays, but as others have said, every player has a price .

Not a chance one season in the premiership they will need 2 keepers in goal at the same time.
Luton is a sh**e hole I'm sure here with Town thirty thousand every week and wealthy owners why on earth would you go there hardly a Saudi Arabia offer.

If their other bid falls through then they'll be back in for him. At the moment, it looks like we managed to price him outside Luton's reach. Premier League is a big pull but Luton, garbage. Still playing in someone's back yard.

Can't see it. Luton are just trying to find anything that sticks. They've been linked with tonnes of keepers.

Mattinlondon in some cases yeah I agree but no way would you go somewhere to play in the prem get smashed most weeks to then be in the championship again year after. So in this case unless we want to sell there’s no way he’d want to go and play in 9000 fans each week so it does coke into it in this case. And wages they still have ffp and there’s no way Luton will go max on wages first season and their gates don’t help. If they stay up yeah you can gamble like Bournemouth did but not first season they’re not Notts forest again gates come into play

Unfortunately people said the same of Brentford and Bournemouth. Two clubs who are now fairly well established at Premier league level. All it needs is for Luton to scrape safety for one season and they'll soon be playing in a plush new 20,000 stadium. Football doesn't make any sense any more....this 'could' easily happen.

One year down the line (two maybe, three maximum) Ipswich will be a Premier League club and Luton will not. Who would YOU rather bank your future on as a player?

He’d certainly get more action with Luton in the Premier League. Mostly picking the ball from the back of the net

Missed game because of Plantar Faciitis. Took me over three months to get rid of mine. Painful too.

Slicker will be our no1 keeper anytime. Walton stays or goes won’t change that.

It feels possible that a big offer could result in a sale. Seems unlikely it'll be Luton that may entice him away though, but a big money offer might tempt ITFC to sell and re-invest, and wages offered could be enough for him to give it a go. Hope not!!

I think the comments above about Luton, S***hole, backyard, are out of order. Unless you few are living in mansions in a great leafy suburb and are already retired/ semi-retired, then I think reign that in.

Over the years I've heard and read of many players not interested in signing for us, Ipswich being out in the sticks, backward, too quiet etc. etc....

Can't see it personally, think Town have better long term prospects and he seems settled. Having said all that Hladky is a very capable keeper and I don't think there is a great deal between them (apart from height!). No team is just one player, but think he will stay.

Walton had a Birds Eye view of Luton last week so I would imagine he would not regard such a move as very good career decision. It after all pre season speculation.

Chepstow blue Bournemouth still play in front of 10.290 average fans so not completely true difference is they’re established past few seasons bar one Luton aren’t. Big difference in pull when you’re already at a big club on the up

We need to protect our assets get him on a extended contract now. Dosent make a difference what crowd a club attracts to any transfer deal it's all about money. Luton would have to offer him substantially more for him to leave. Nearly all clubs now have it written in the contract that if they get relegated they would have to take a substantial pay cut so i can't see Walton going anywhere.

According to Wikipedia, he signed for us in January 2022 on a 2.5 year contract. If correct, he doesn’t have much time on it left.
