Friday, 24th Feb 2023 20:40

Town legend Matt Holland has spoken to Blues manager Kieran McKenna and CEO Mark Ashton about the campaign up to now, the January transfer window and other issues in a lengthy interview.

In an interview which is a precursor for the club's TownTV service which is set to be launched in the summer, McKenna speaks about the current position on the pitch, while Ashton discusses off-field matters including the club's January recruitment.

I think all Three of these Guys realise more has to be extracted from this Squad that has been assembled.
McKenna, probably as expected, is proving his Inexperience and Naivety, and he is very much on a ‘learning curve' in Management.
But he wouldn't have any problem talking for Ireland or England - without saying very much !!
The Owners, I feel, will be very focussed on the Results of the last 14 Matches - which really isn't too many now …. !!!
We'll see. Time will always tell.

Club release video on Twitter at 8.28pm. Blueboy1981 comments on 50 minute video on TWTD at 9.01pm. Hmmm. Not sure he has actually watched it. Which would explain why he's taking rubbish!

Not yet had time to watch ; but the overall progress under the new ownership, new top Mgt and newly appointed Football Mgr has by any standards been truly amazing ! We just cannot expect perfection ,nor all the cards to fall our way : thoroughgoing application of principles and standards will bring rewards ,and is doing so ! It's just not possible to guarantee each and every step forwards – maybe the most difficult to either control or judge is TIME . What period of improvement ,or improvements ,what good fortune or outside influence will impact and when ,and again overall just how long ?
The Rudyard Kipling - what, how ,where why and when series of questions / conundrums won't go away as if by magic !
Supporters are naturally emotionally involved ,passionate for success but that ‘impatience' clearly falls within the ‘time factor' in the equation !
We have a wonderful platform being successfully created at our smashing Club, ITFC ,and need just occasionally to step back a little and respect and admire what is going on and what has been achieved .
Success is being earned !

Blueboy1981 - you felt the need to comment negatively on a news story about an interview that you haven't actually bothered to listen to? Righto - we'll let other judge who is talking rubbish...

With money invested in football these days and social media people expect and want immediate success overnight. You can not build a team overnight no matter how much you spend. As much as I do not like all of the rotation of players going on we need to trust Kieran. We are playing much more attractive football than we ever were under Mick McCarthy. I remember Ipswich Town director Ian Milne saying at the time "where else can you watch 2 hours of entertainment for £25?" What a joke!! There was no entertainment watching Town when Mick McCarthy was manager!! Hoof ball upfield all the time.
If social media had been around at the time of Sir Alf Ramsey and Sir Booby Robson we would never have the history we have now. For the younger fans who support our team please take a look at the history of our club which was managed by the two best England managers ever, after they left ITFC!!
During Ramsey's second season in charge, he led the club to the third division title, Ipswich again scoring in excess of 100 goals. It was Ipswich's second title at that level and it meant promotion to the Second Division, and for the following three seasons, Ipswich managed to achieve mid-table finishes. In the 1960—61 season, Ramsey guided Ipswich to the Second Division title and into the top flight for the first time in the club's history.
The success was built upon the prowess of Ray Crawford, the division's top goal scorer with 39. The following season, Ramsey led his side to become champions of England in their debut season at the top level. The side had been tipped by many contemporary football pundits and journalists for relegation at the start of the season, making the achievement all the more remarkable.
Sir Bobby Robson...In 1969 he became manager of Ipswich Town F.C. However he won no major competitions or trophies during his first four years in charge. In 1973 Ipswich won the Texaco Cup. Over the next nine seasons in the First Division, only once did Ipswich finish lower than the sixth place. This was the 1977—78 season however the club then went on to win the FA Cup, beating Arsenal F.C. 1—0 at Wembley. Three years later, Robson led Ipswich to victory in the UEFA Cup. The club beat Dutch team AZ Alkmaar 5—4 over two games.
We need to have faith in Kieran, Mark Ashton and the American owners.

Agree, However how many fans would prefer hoof ball if we were winning ever game.
The problem we have today is the fact that town won last week and we have the best manager if Town draw tomorrow we have the worst.

As you said it took 4 years for Sir Bobby to build a winning team but we have no patience for that to happen.
We will now have the comments about you can't compare the 80's to today.

Great video! Matty H asked some great questions which many of the fans have been crying out for and these are great guys who need our full backing!

In KM we have the best young manager around and MA has made such a difference to our club. The commitment and vision of both is unquestionable and this is clearly a long term project, so we need to have both patience and faith that success will be delivered be it this season or not.

I get that with the backing that we are lucky to have that we all have very high expectations and there has been some frustrating times as KM highlighted. However, the reaction of the fans at Oxford and Bristol was sad to see. How would anyone benefit from that kind of toxic reaction? If you got dogs abuse for giving your best, would that inspire you to turn out next time and give your all?

Let's remember the progress we've made in the past 14 months and the standard of entertainment we now watch! COYBs

If social media & blueboy1981 had been around when SBR was manager would he have been allowed the time to build his team? Because I blocked his comments it sounds he is still overreacting to everything!

Win lose or draw the club now has outstanding owners and outstanding management and staff, all of whom are passionate about the club. In the short time they have been in charge they have totally transformed the atmosphere in and around the Portman Road. We are attracting players who would have overlooked us in the past and the owners have shown they are prepared to to invest heavily in that. Building the infrastructure of the club for the long term is the most important thing after the way it was allowed to deteriorate in more recent years. I've been a Town fan since the late 60's and this is the most positive I've felt in a long long time. It's only a matter of time before we get there and we'll be in a great position when we do.

Blueboy1981 (or is it Yellowboy1985?) - why comment on here about an interview you've not seen? If you want to criticise results, personnel etc, why not contribute on the forum or start your own thread? You'll get plenty of support and plenty that don't agree with you like myself.

Anyway I thought the interview was excellent. Well done Matt for interviewing them so well and well done KM and MA for being so clear on what they are attempting to do. I get it.

I've followed this club for a very long time now. Looking back down the decades, the last 20 years have been beyond awful. The football club was disappearing before my eyes in every way imaginable. It was rotten from the inside out.

The ownership group and the management team are literally building a football club from the wreckage of one. Looking from a macro perspective, the progress on and off the pitch has been considerable. In a program of projects, progress is never going to be uniform. The biggest variable is on the pitch. Am I disappointed we've fallen away? Very. But am I disappointed about the way in which the club is heading? Definitely not. Success will come.

Robson and Ramsey didn't achieve what they did just on their own. They were able to do it because the club at the time was right and despite their socialite reputations, the Cobbolds and directors knew exactly what they were doing. The booze in the boardroom was a convenient, enjoyable screen for some very capable people.

We will be fine and however impatient people are, patience will real it's rewards.

Nice interview that, and watching Ashton's body language closely you can see just how much agreement there is in how well things are building, and how together this club is.

As Churchman says, 'patience' everybody.

Also, I think it might be yellowboyNaN (there's a joke for all you computer programmers out there.)

I have watched this great interview by Matty H, and I firmly believe that with the foundations this club are building and the incredible work ethic all the staff and players have, not to mention the great links we have created with the community that ITFC will be a great success now and in the future. Success is not achieved overnight or by chucking money at the problem. Its achieved by continued hard work and commitment right through every aspect of our great club.

Whether we get promoted this season or not is probably about 50/50, but after listening to this, medium to long term, this club is going places!

Great video: Honest appraisal from the KM. You can see genuine passion and enthusiasm in MA in the way he expresses himself. I am genuinely excited about our future.

Blueboy1981 - you really have made yourself look very silly. Caught red handed not bothering to watch what you have to comment on just so you can be at the top of the commenter's list - well done you must be so proud of yourself.

RobsonWark - I often am left frustrated by what you write on here, but credit where it's due, you make a very balanced point.
I am bothered by the newer generation of fan that believe just because we have spent some cash that we should be ENTITLED to instant success - it will come, be patient!

Great result today, good to see us see out the win!
