Skipper Morsy Issues Apology
Wednesday, 15th Feb 2023 12:17

Skipper Sam Morsy has issued an apology following his exchange with a fan following last night’s disappointing 0-0 draw at Bristol Rovers.

Morsy was filmed arguing with a supporter at the front of the away section following the Blues’ third successive draw, which saw them drop to fourth in the League One table.

Writing on Twitter this morning, the 31-year-old said: “I’d like to apologise for my actions after yesterday’s match.

“I was emotional and I completely understand the fans’ frustrations, we will give all we have to turn it around.

“I can’t explain how proud I am to lead this iconic football club. Every week you turn up i your numbers, pay your hard-earned cash to follow us home and away, and there’s not a second that I don’t appreciate that. See you on Saturday.”

After listening to some of the rubbish that was coming out of the mouths of some supporters at Cambridge I can't say I blame him.
We're all frustrated but those who do nothing but complain and moan obviously haven't been watching Town for many seasons as this has been the most enjoyable for many years..... Keep going Sammie we'd be worse off without you.

Don't feel like he needed to apologise. But now he has, maybe some of the people who I and others overheard at the final whistle calling him a c**t and other names might like to also say sorry.

I wasn't there last night so can't say for sure how the support were feeling (I can have a good guess though).
I do believe that the reason fans travel to away games is that they're emotionally involved and seeing the team under perform is hard to swallow when it's not a one off...
However I also believe that they probably feel pretty silly now that this video was placed in the public domain and made our players look bad... That doesn't help anyone who wants the team to succeed.
Let's hope that KM will take some notice of how upset fans are feeling and take onboard some our the concerns... Maybe an open meeting with the players on how they could perform better would ie new tactics, settled team, whether there feeling tired etc....
We don't need to know what's said, only that there has been some internal debate....

Morsy was one of the few who was driving forward looking to make something happen last night when we needed to go directly at Bristol (Broadhead aswell when he came on), so I have a bit of sympathy/understanding with his frustration.
Not good, and a sign of where we are now, but I'll take his apology & let us move on to hopefully getting back on track with positive attacking play in the upcoming games.

Dont apologise to the bellends who see fit to throw abuse.

Yes it was frustrating but we need to stick together else what is a poor run will become a disaster.

I'm sure Sam is well aware of the situation and just as frustrated as the fans are at what's happening. Doesn't need fan confrontation to "open his eyes" or motivate change like its a magic solution he's been holding back on. Have your say is fair enough but confrontations may backfire.
Hope the fan/s apologise too.
We're in this together and get out of it together.

I was at the game last night, my thoughts are it was a exciting game against a team that just want to stop us playing and nick something on the break, I can't think of any player who had a particularly bad game or wasn't trying, I no it's disappointing and frustrating but I hope people keep the faith and don't start behaving like we're entitled to win every game because we are a big club who's spent a few bob, up until the take over and KM we've we've been a basket case for the last 20 odd years it's going to take time to put right

No excuse for being abusive to the players. It is incredibly frustrating though isn't it because we've all had tunnel vision all season on those top 2 spots, and now we are having to look down and worry about what Wycombe in 7th are doing. We've been battling disappointment for over 20 years and this season has given us some great football, full houses, and sniff of glory. We're all just so desperate to get promoted - emotions run high. But indeed, let's not turn on each other, we have to stick together and keep believing we can get there - even if it is via Wembley.

He is an employee of the club and if you spoke to one of your customers like that you'd be told to apologise.

As supporters we are emotionally committed to our club and more so this season. After the trauma of the Charlton game and the run we are having, it is not surprising that we are tense about turning this around. Feelings will be vented but there is no excuse for vile abuse of players and equally players should be professional enough to handle criticism.

A culture of toxic negativity grips us at times, on here, on FB and in the ground.
Negativity from people who think they know better, fueled by booze and / or the anonymity of a keyboard.
Guess what, you dont know better or you wouldnt be stuck where you are

There's an entitled new breed of arrogant fan at our club that can't accept the fact that winning every game ìsnt always possible. They find it hard to string a coherent sentence together, so acting like neanderthals is the only way of trying to get their point across. The majority of the time it's either dysfunctional individuals or juvenile delinquents who are struggling with puberty, and waving their arms about and shouting obscenities guarantees them their 15 seconds on youtube. It's the quiet people who are brooding that feel it the most. Loud people are just seeking attention. Next time Sam launch the hoardings and smack the little dweebs in the kisser. Your apology isn't accepted because it was not necessary.

Ironic that he was getting abuse after his best game of the season and when he was our best player on the pitch by a country mile yesterday. Best Captain we've had in a generation in terms of leadership and ability combined. It's clear he cares. As many have said, we move on.

I'm afraid it the way of the world now, people all to ready to sling abouse today when 2weeks ago he was the bees knees . Not just Ipswich but every team .

Sam Morsy epitomises everything you could want from a Captain. You cannot fault his effort, workrate and leadership week in week out. It was a painful watch last night and yes we need more invention going forward and need to move the ball quicker but turning the players against the supporters is definitely not the answer.
