Town Closing in On Broadhead Signing
Monday, 9th Jan 2023 12:21

Town are closing in on the signing of Everton forward Nathan Broadhead.

Broadhead, who along with George Hirst was at Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Rotherham United, was recalled from a loan spell at Wigan last Friday after the Toffeemen accepted an offer from the Blues, now understood to be £1.5 million rather than the £1 million previously claimed.

We understand a report claiming the medical has been completed is premature, however, the 24-year-old is due at the club this afternoon to tie-up the remaining loose ends and the signing looks set to be confirmed later today, discussions regarding the deal having continued over the weekend.

Broadhead will become the club’s third new recruit of the January transfer window following the loan addition of Hirst yesterday and Massimo Luongo’s return on a short-term deal at the end of last week.

Broadhead was a youth player with hometown side Bangor City and Wrexham before joining Everton’s academy aged 10.

The 5ft 10in tall frontman has made two senior sub appearances for Everton but has spent most of the last few seasons out on loan.

In 2019/20 he was with Burton, scoring three times in 15 starts and seven sub appearances, then in 2021/22 was with Sunderland, who we understand also made an offer during this window but not one which was accepted by Everton, netting 13 goals in 20 starts and seven games from the bench.

Excellent, it would appear so far we are getting the ones we want, getting the deals done reasonably early and prepared to invest to get the right players

Great business. Get two strikers in, early in the window and both could feature against Plymouth is all goes well. Whittaker would be icing on the cake already, but personally I can't see that going through. Not sure if anyone saw Whittaker's social media post but it was him scoring against us and posting he hopes Plymouth go up!

Quick question, what do you guys think this means for Ahadme? Maybe a loan deal? Got 3/4 good options with, Broadhead, Hirst and Ladapo and you can obviously played Kayden there when looking to get in behind.

Been a great start to the window. Alot of rumours about us signibg Mark McGuiness? Doubt that highly but we can all dream!! Cannot wait for Saturday now!!

Providing we get broadhead I would then let ahadme go, no point in keeping someone who won't play and with 4 in front of him he's not going too.
IF we get Whittaker I would also let Jackson go as don't need more than 4 strikers.
I would rather us sign mcguiness than Whittaker if I'm honest.
Work with an Everton fan and he's saying fans are not happy at all that they haven't given him a proper chance- bodes well, if we get him 2 great looking signings imo in the area we desperate to improve on 👍

Great business, and well done to all at the Club. With Gas one for the future and Ladapo really not showing anything that would convince me he can play higher up (goal + assist on Sat masked some very average touches, esp around goals....even KMcK hinted at that) then is 1 more an option? Bonne is available now and for free, even if it is only to the end of the season. We have seen how quickly injuries can impact and why not take that extra bit of security rather than having Gas hold a squad place when he really is not ready by all accounts and would no doubt benefit from a short loan.

Pretty sure Ahadme can only goto Burton (2 club rule)

McKenna is very shrewd. He's building a Squad not only to get us promoted but also compete well in the Championship.

Portman terrorist. Ladapo was excellent on Saturday. Dont know what game u were watching. And he's already shown he can score in the championship with rotherham. Why would we want to sign bonne when once broadhead has signed we won't need another striker. Apart from the fact bonne is rubbish anyway. Couldnt even get on the bench at qpr for their last 10 games.

Ahadme cannot go out on loan as can only play forcw clubs in a calendar year. Not even sure he could go back to Burton, as think going back there may count as a 3rd club anyway. Not sure on that tho.

Great news!

Are there discussions with Swansea re Whitaker?

What was his record like at Wigan 1st half of the season?

I'd he gets 13 in 20 for us (or 27 with subs) I'd be pretty happy with that

Ladapo is in my opinion having a very good season for us. I see him as a bit "Heskey". A player who holds the ball up very well, and gets slated for not scoring enough goals. Broadhead or Hirst would compliment him very well, feeding off Freddies lay offs. I hope this signing works out for us, I'll have to trust our recruitment on this one as I know nothing about the guy. Hopefully the price tag is qualification enough!

Speaking with a Sunderland fan yesterday and their fans will be gutted they didnt sign him even in the championship. The only flag he raised was potentially injury prone, but quality-wise we should expect him to deliver fingers crossed!

62 senior appearances, 17 goals since 2017, 42/15 in the Championship 2021-2023. Well suited to L1 & higher.
At 24, I'm hoping KM can nurture the lad even more to get the very best out of him for many years to come. With the quality in the squad he's playing with, there can only be exciting times to come!

This could be a great signing. His scoring record at Sunderland was very good and I think he has the potential to develop into a really good player. I am surprised that Everton have let him go, but maybe Lampard was told he had to sell a few before he can sign any.

I cant believe people are still talking about Bonne. Half the all round player Ladapo is.

Failed last season after people had seen him play a few games and worked him out
Always offside, no first touch and weak in the air
Cant play in McKennas system
Paid to leave by QPR who obviously couldnt wait to get rid of him
Absolutely no mention of hm since he left, hes free for a reason

Weve got Hirst Broadhead Ladapo Adhame and Jackson all ahead of him plus the youngsters, will someone please explain to me why we would waste a squad position on a lad just because he comes from Ipswich?

Good early business. Makes you wonder if we will be selling or loaning a couple out. Jackson, Ahadme ?
I can't see anymore strikers coming in. Could we adapt the formation a bit ? 3-4-1-2. We sometimes seem lacking in numbers in the box when the crosses come in.

A Sunderland supporting friend of mine said Broadhead was "very good" for them last season. He's not one to hand out praise so I'm excited about this

Is there any source or intel to this McGuinness rumour or is that purely going on the supposed recall by Cardiff? And even then, seems the justification from Cardiff is to help them in the championship season!

I'm more excited by this signing than Hirst, At least he's our player (subject to medical) I see him as part of the long term plan, maybe there is a clause Hirst can be signed long term. As for Bonne, I feel he has a lot to offer someone but not us, he's Ipswich through & through like many of us but most of us would have loved to play for Ipswich but weren't good enough. See there are still snipes at Ladapo who had a great game against Rotheram, loved the way he turned the defender to get the penalty & the way he went past the goalkeeper plus I watched him quite a bit off the ball & he was at it all the time. We are building a very strong unit without breaking the rules or the bank, people see us as a mega bucks team but they forget about money from players who've left, ie Downes who Swansea owe us a substantial amount for. Elsewhere we have a few out on loan Idris el M probably doing the best, certainly popular in East London, maybe ready for next season.

I would definitely still go in for Whittaker. Even if it just stops him going back to Plymouth! Although we could end up having too many attacking options (if that's such a thing) can see ahadme and edwards going out on loan

IF we are promoted this season then I can see there being a bit of a clear out in the summer with Ahadme, Jackson and Edwards all on the list.
