Town Closing in On Broadhead Signing
Monday, 9th Jan 2023 12:21

Town are closing in on the signing of Everton forward Nathan Broadhead.

Broadhead, who along with George Hirst was at Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Rotherham United, was recalled from a loan spell at Wigan last Friday after the Toffeemen accepted an offer from the Blues, now understood to be £1.5 million rather than the £1 million previously claimed.

We understand a report claiming the medical has been completed is premature, however, the 24-year-old is due at the club this afternoon to tie-up the remaining loose ends and the signing looks set to be confirmed later today, discussions regarding the deal having continued over the weekend.

Broadhead will become the club’s third new recruit of the January transfer window following the loan addition of Hirst yesterday and Massimo Luongo’s return on a short-term deal at the end of last week.

Broadhead was a youth player with hometown side Bangor City and Wrexham before joining Everton’s academy aged 10.

The 5ft 10in tall frontman has made two senior sub appearances for Everton but has spent most of the last few seasons out on loan.

In 2019/20 he was with Burton, scoring three times in 15 starts and seven sub appearances, then in 2021/22 was with Sunderland, who we understand also made an offer during this window but not one which was accepted by Everton, netting 13 goals in 20 starts and seven games from the bench.

Whittaker would have been my choice of the three linked and would have certainly been an improvement on what we have.Hearsay from Wigan fans I know suggest surprise that we've gone in for Broadhead, but it is what it is. Perhaps he'll turn out to be far better than compared to his performances against us last season. Here's hoping.

Seems to be taking a long while to get this one over the line.

I am sure K McK is choosing players he feels he can improve, that have some pedigree and are going to be capable or better in the Championship.

Cadiar I'm with on the sniping of Ladapo it's very unfair to him, and a little sad so many town fans are doing it as he is adding goals to his tally and as you say doing so much off the ball.
From what I've seen on media it doesn't look like Whittaker is too keen to come here, he has obviously bought into Plymouth big time and is enjoying his time there.
With the arrival of Hirst and hopefully Broadhead do we actually need another attacking option?
So unless we see current players moving out of the club do we have room to take another striker in.
Whilst he was here McGuinness did impress me, and I sometimes wondered how we would do without him, I think that he would make a significant addition to our defence and would shore up those lapses that have let us down, however Cardiff look to be in need of his services, on the other hand their debt might force them to look for ways to reduce it.
Such exciting times.

Forgotten what it feels like to get excited during a transfer window, this is much more like it! Under Evans almost every transfer window used to be depressing. Thank goodness for the new owners and associated investment / ambition.

The most protracted ‘Done deal' ever?

Wonder if he'll pass the medical!?

Midastouch; you may have forgotten Paul Lambert's last transfer window in January 2021. It was exciting in that we signed lots of players, albeit on loan agreements.

Sadly, pretty much all of them turned out to be hopeless.

I'd like to see a solid defender signed next rather than Whittaker. Hirst and Broadhead will add to the strike force but we are conceding too many soft goals for my liking, which is a worry going into the business end of the season.

I think Hirst is going to be fantastic. Broadhead even better.
I think the next 2 in the door will be looked at as the 2 big signings.

Steelmonkey I've said the same regarding McGuinness. Impressive when with us and impressive since leaving. Blues1 said bang average when he was at Portman Road, and unlikely to have improved since. Very odd.

Whatever happens Sheff Wed have lost the best CB in L1. That's all that matters at the mo.
If MA can get him back here in the next couple of weeks or so then great.

Look East - absolutely amazing yesterday and today they state town are away to Burnley in the next round of the FA cup and not even a mention on their sports report of the 4-1 victory over Rotherham or any signings and I thought About Anglia were bad enough.

My thoughts exactly, Steelmonkey!

The squad now lends itself to a variety of formations including 3 or 4 at the back and 1 or 2 up top. The flexibility KMcK is building is impressive. The opposition won't have a clue what they're going to be up against until 2pm on a Saturday or what we're going to do from the bench. Think of any formation you can imagine and there's a Town XI to fit. That probably wasn't the case a few days ago. Can't wait for Saturday. COYB
