Camara Facing Months Out After Further Surgery
Thursday, 22nd Dec 2022 16:08

Midfielder Panutche Camara is facing months on the sidelines having undergone another operation on his groin injury last week, however, the Guinea-Bissau international should be back by the end of the season.

The 25-year-old has made only one start and three sub appearances for the Blues, scoring once, since signing from Plymouth on deadline day due to the injury, which he first suffered last season while with the Pilgrims.

“Panutche had surgery last week on his adductor area,” McKenna revealed. “The specialists felt there was more surgery required to a slightly different part of his adductor region.

“It’s a really complicated area to have injuries, which I know from personal experience.

“There’s a good level of confidence that this surgery will hopefully be a longer-term resolution and he’ll be able to get back to his full health and full capabilities, but that’s going to be a decent period of time away.

“He’s got a period now of rehabilitation and recovery and has got to go through that process now.”

Quizzed on whether a timescale had been pencilled in for the Camara's return, McKenna added: “To be honest, with the injuries that he’s had in that area and he’s had I think three surgeries now, one at Plymouth and two with us around that area, it’s hard to put an exact timescale.

“It’s going to be a few months, not a few weeks, but we he’ll be back playing football again this season.”

Massive shame to hear that. Just not to be this season for him.

This was a big gamble that has gone catastrophically sideways, onwards and upwards.

Sad news. Keep your head up Pan, hope rehab goes well and I look forward to seeing you back fully fit and more hungry than ever.

Our transfer business this season has largely been positive. One issue for me has been a tendency to buy players that are unfit / not playing / injured. Dom Ball was one and Panutche is another. It presents a real risk especially when they play in broadly the same position. And now we are having a look at Massimo who falls into the same category.

Great shame but after successful surgery and a good pre-season he'll be like a new signing and shine for us in the Championship.

Never a good idea to buy a player who is injured until he has made a full recovery. Hopefully lessons will be learned from this experience.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but quite clear why Plymouth were happy to let him go. Taking on injured players is always a risk and for this season, one which didn't pay off. BUT longer term Camara is likely to be a very good player for us, hopefully in the Championship next season.

I predicted this 3 days ago and got lambasted on here . But i didn't realise he had a similar operation at Plymouth who were obviously advised to get rid of. Why are we signing players for thousands of pounds who are injured no matter how good their reputation.

The club were right to sign him in my opinion. My understanding is that he's not been an injury prone player, but he developed a groin injury that needed surgery and he was still recovering from that when we signed him. It's just bad luck that the surgery hasn't fully resolved the issue so he needs another op. I believe that he will become a key player for us next season.

What a complete waste of time and money that signing was...

We still seem to be in the habit of signing crocks

Unfortunately this has not been a one off Carroll, Ball and now Camara. Let's hope the club have now learnt their lesson we dont want to go back to the old Marcus Evans days when these things were prevalent.

Nothing to do with hindsight the club signed him already injured! Schoolboy decision!
I can only assume that he us a very good player which is why the decision was made to sign him injured

He came with injury baggage, someone should have known better - until proven fit, and otherwise.
A massive gamble that has certainly backfired - and not good news now for his further career, or us !

Hope surgery goes well and he's able to play for us next season....a tough start for him at the club and just hope it all goes well for him later down the line...

For the time being need two midfielders to replace Ball and Camara. Hopefully get to see both players in action next season.

Sick Notes are signed far too easily by ITFC, we've had a few - let's all hope this doesn't prove to be another….. !!!
Best Wishes to the Player, and Club for a Full Recovery - but beware it doesn't sound promising in that direction for either.
Let's hope otherwise !!

Camara is young enough to get through this and forge a strong future. He was signed by people who know what they're doing and I'm sure he'll prove a good acquisition.

Blueboy1981. He didn't come with with injury baggage. This his only injury hes had for some time. Had he got a history of always being injured id agreewith you. But its a one off injury that unfortunately his 1st surgery hasn't totally cured the problem. There's no reason to think this 2nd op won't be a success . So think we need to hold fire before writing him off.

This is the third operation he had one at Plymouth not bad for someone who supposedly is not injury prone. Plymouth knew what they were doing when they sold him. Players should never be signed without passing a full medical. If he's not fit at the start of next season alarm bells will be ringing.
