Town Launch Third Strip
Tuesday, 23rd Aug 2022 14:18

Town have officially launched the all-black third kit leaked by sponsor Ed Sheeran earlier this lunchtime.

The club say the strip has been designed in collaboration with Sheeran and is available for pre-order now.

Paul Macro, Town's head of retail operations, told the club site: “We thought it would be great to get Ed involved in the design of our third kit.

“The idea to turn the graphic found on the front of the Equals album into a tonal colour to match the blackout styling of the shirt really appealed to us.

“After playing around with a couple of different concepts we settled on the pattern running through the sleeves and also the short panel. This gave us a really unique, smart looking kit.

“Ed loved the final designs and it’s great to finally show off this collaboration to our supporters.”

Sheeran added: “I got asked to help design the third kit for Ipswich. I wanted to make something with a subtle homage to the album but also be a cool bit of clothing people around the world would want to wear. I love it.”

The first 3,000 fans who pre-order within the first two weeks will receive a limited edition Ed Sheeran Official Top Trump card which will not be sold separately.

Town say pre-orders should be dispatched towards the middle of September with the shirts available on general sale towards the end of September.

I love it and I'm sure it will be another best seller. I've been meaning to write to MA to see if he could give us a black strip next season. The only improvement I would make to this shirt is I would have done the badge in gold (it still looks great in black though) especially as we are going up as Champions this season.

I haven't bought a replica shirt for 30+ years but would consider this one! Would happily wear it in the boozer!

Like the second strip a lot, the home kit is ok, but this is CAF… love it.

Most clubs have some kind of kit like this as second or third. It is much more wearable in a regular context - a kind of football-related regular sports shirt in neutral colours. Not sure it has much to do with the team playing in it to be fair; more about emptying our pockets but I would buy this over the other two though I'm probably too mean to buy any.

PositivelyPortman: thank you gif your response, that I respect totally. Forums are about views and opinions and it wouldn't be normal if we all agreed on everything would it. So each to their own snd move on. COYBs 👍

I think if I was a sponsor i would want to see my logo on the shirt. I think it would have been better to have been in white. Surely the players names and numbers are not going to be in grey. While im in moaning mode (had a bad day) why do people wear their away shirts at home matches. Let's make it a sea of blue for home games.

ArnieM. Indeed, we've all got differing views, and there'd be very little point of TWTD if we didn't!
Best wishes mate. COYB.

If it means we get hirst I'm all for it , I trust McKenna he clearly rates hirst , not in thier squad tonight , so I just don't get what the hold up , it's either the player doesn't want to drop to league 1 , or they want more , than we are offering , But if they have to sell to buy , and clearly don't rate Him , I don't get it , ps positively Portman agree 100 per cent mate

People crying about the club trying to make money. How naive can you be! Excellent kit, excellent marketing. Great job!

Jesus, so much moaning. Its a shirt, don't over analyse it. If you like it, either admire the design from afar or purchase one (when the site works) and enjoy wearing it.

If you don't like it and / or have deep seated irrational issues with 3rd kits feel free to do neither of the above.

Newsflash - we are a football club that loses money. It is sensible to cash in on your best assets. Whether you like his music or not Ed Sheeran is an asset to us, you could literally stick any old shirt on him and it would sell worldwide and increase appeal and awareness of us.

I for one am proud of us for doing this, it actually shows some basic business and common sense and suggests we know our true value and assets and signifies good management.

Even as a top to wear its more of a subtle training top that people will like to wear maybe more versatile occassions than then home or away.

If you don't like it, breathe and reassess your life quietly.

Deep breath every one. Firstly all "big" clubs have a third shirt so wjy not us? If you don't like it or think its a rip off don't buy it. Lets not forget this is our club and its loss making, the US guys are investing but they can only do so much, the club are offering us an option. At 50+ I have not purchased a shirt for years, this one though I'm thinking about.

My wife and kids love Sheeran's music, i would rather lick Maggot Cheese! However as a person he is amazing and as a sponsor he is awesome. This trio of kits is another example of how we are moving along in the right direction. It would be great to have some sort of buy a shirt fund for those who cannot afford to get this 3rd kit due to the current financial climate.
