Dobra Set For Loan
Wednesday, 25th Aug 2021 11:17

Blues forward Armando Dobra looks set to be sent out on loan prior to the closure of the transfer window on Tuesday.

Clubs in Leagues One and Two have been monitoring the Albanian U21 international's situation throughout the summer but with the Blues having so far having been unwilling to allow him to move.

However, with players coming back from injury and the 20-year-old keen to play regular football, it appears all but certain he will be sent out for a spell in the next few days.

Saturday’s opponents AFC Wimbledon, who first made their interest known in May, are the frontrunners for his temporary signature with the Blues and the player both believed to prefer a switch to League One rather than League Two.

Fourth-tier sides Salford City, who signed Town central defender Corrie Ndaba on loan at the weekend, Leyton Orient, where released striker Aaron Drinan has already scored twice, and Colchester United, where eight ex-Blues players are in the first-team squad, are also keen.

Dobra impressed in pre-season and when featuring in Town’s early games in the campaign proper but his opportunities going forward would appear limited with the Blues having made several attacking additions over the summer.

Sone Aluko and Conor Chaplin are currently sidelined with injuries but manager Paul Cook said on Friday that he expects “everyone to be fit and available” next week and once their availability is confirmed it’s expected that the green light will be given for Dobra to go on loan.

We understand that earlier in the summer Crewe Alexandra, MK Dons and Charlton were all interested but they are no longer maintaining their pursuit, in the case of the Railwaymen having signed former Blues academy youngster Ben Knight on loan from Manchester City instead.

Last summer, Dobra turned down the chance to move to Crawley on loan, while Falkirk and Mansfield also made approaches.

Town themselves could still make further additions to their squad before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Tuesday, manager Cook having not ruled out taking the summer recruitment drive beyond its current total of 16.

We understand adding another centre-half is under consideration despite the signings of George Edmundson from Rangers and Cameron Burgess from Accrington.

Crystal Palace's Jaroslaw Jach was linked at the weekend but the Pole appears more likely to join Wigan Athletic.

A great talent but not yet the finished article. Our priority this season is promotion, not development. He has great attitude and I'm sure has a big part to play in the future but right now let him gain experience and learn from mistakes elsewhere.

Any chance we can get Mr Cook an assistant manager. He clearly needs help and someone to bounce ideas like this off.

And god forbid we sack him without an assistant manager. Who would take tempirary charge - the wigan kitman??.

I'm puzzled as we have no backup for Edwards when he joins the list of hamstring injuries. Fraser is an awful wide player, Chaplin not a wide player either so who plays

Dirtydingusmgee. No. Just some1 who actually supports the team, not just come on here to slag them off constantly. And some1 who's fed up of the negativity shown by fans like urself. Could understand it in the years before the takeover. But this is the very beginning of a new era. And it will take time to put those years of demise right. Unfortunately we have a section of fans who expect it to happen in 5 minutes. Just want every fan to get behind the club, give them the time, and stop the negative comments. Maybe that's too much to expect taking into account our fans have been voted the worst in the country, in a recent poll. But the fact is, we all need to be on the same page. The club, the management, the players, and the fans. End of the day, weve got what we wanted. New owners, rid of all the players whove played awfully for the past few seasons, got a new team in place, with a manager who's success rate in the lower leagues is indisputable. And yet, we still have fans spouting the same negativity of the past 10 years. Of course we all would have hoped for a better start to the season, but the negativity is ridiculous. We are playing some great football. We're scoring goals, unfortunately individual errors are costing us. But once this team is settled and those errors stop happening, we will be a force to be reckoned with. And it's not just our manager saying that. Opposition managers are saying the same thing. So let's just cut the negative rubbish and just be positive. We all want the same thing at the end of the day. Dont we?

Itfc96. How can u play them both in the same team? They play the same position. Only way u could would be too stop Burns and play Edward's on the right? And is dobra better than either of them? No. I'm not saying he isnt a decent player, but hes far from the finished article. Has to learn when to pass the ball rather than just run with it. Sure that will come in time. And surely playing regularly for a few months rather than sitting on the bench here, would be more beneficial to his development, and thus for us in the longer term?

I understand the frustration at allowing him to go out on loan but if he comes back a better player for being a regular starter elsewhere then maybe it's for the best?

Nine at Colchester ? I can think of 4 from earlier = Smith , Gerken , Eastman , Noublé. Plus four this summer: Chambers, Sears ,Judge, Skuse . Whom have I forgotten?

Sharkey..... It was a long time ago but in 2011 we signed Tom Eastman from Ipswich.

Blues1 - agree that we got what we wanted with new owners, players who want to play for the club and entertaining football so we should be positive. The thing that I'm not convinced about is the manager and his coaching staff. Not having an assistant manager is very concerning and the coaches we have are ok but nothing special. Look at what MK Dons managed to put together at the last minute when Martin left - a decent new manager and two good assistants.

Doesn't matter how good our players are if they don't get the right coaching and the manager is making questionable decisions on team selection, subs and tactics. It's still work-in-progress but not in the way Cook is saying.
