Dobra Set For Loan
Wednesday, 25th Aug 2021 11:17

Blues forward Armando Dobra looks set to be sent out on loan prior to the closure of the transfer window on Tuesday.

Clubs in Leagues One and Two have been monitoring the Albanian U21 international's situation throughout the summer but with the Blues having so far having been unwilling to allow him to move.

However, with players coming back from injury and the 20-year-old keen to play regular football, it appears all but certain he will be sent out for a spell in the next few days.

Saturday’s opponents AFC Wimbledon, who first made their interest known in May, are the frontrunners for his temporary signature with the Blues and the player both believed to prefer a switch to League One rather than League Two.

Fourth-tier sides Salford City, who signed Town central defender Corrie Ndaba on loan at the weekend, Leyton Orient, where released striker Aaron Drinan has already scored twice, and Colchester United, where eight ex-Blues players are in the first-team squad, are also keen.

Dobra impressed in pre-season and when featuring in Town’s early games in the campaign proper but his opportunities going forward would appear limited with the Blues having made several attacking additions over the summer.

Sone Aluko and Conor Chaplin are currently sidelined with injuries but manager Paul Cook said on Friday that he expects “everyone to be fit and available” next week and once their availability is confirmed it’s expected that the green light will be given for Dobra to go on loan.

We understand that earlier in the summer Crewe Alexandra, MK Dons and Charlton were all interested but they are no longer maintaining their pursuit, in the case of the Railwaymen having signed former Blues academy youngster Ben Knight on loan from Manchester City instead.

Last summer, Dobra turned down the chance to move to Crawley on loan, while Falkirk and Mansfield also made approaches.

Town themselves could still make further additions to their squad before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Tuesday, manager Cook having not ruled out taking the summer recruitment drive beyond its current total of 16.

We understand adding another centre-half is under consideration despite the signings of George Edmundson from Rangers and Cameron Burgess from Accrington.

Crystal Palace's Jaroslaw Jach was linked at the weekend but the Pole appears more likely to join Wigan Athletic.

This is absolutely shi....crap. Was as bright as a button at Burton and hasn't got a look in since !! This lad deserves far better treatment and far more opportunities than we've given him. He's far too good a player to be consistently ignored. We'll lose him for sure.

Oh this makes me laugh! Sending a talented youngster out on loan for experience...from a League One Club!!!! Youngsters come from Premiership Clubs to League One for experience! JUST PLAY HIM IN OUR TEAM! FFS. You couldn't make this up.

Sorry, but I'm really pi$$ed about this. Did Bobby Robson send out George Burley or Kevin Beattie or Eric Gates etc etc out on loan. No, he blooded them into the team and made world class players out of them. We get a talented player in LEAGUE ONE and want to offload him to get experience. PC you're an idiot, and so are all you sheeple on here agreeing with this.

When you've signed 16 players you protect your status with the board. It's hardly news that managers will play their signings above players already in situ. We didn't need 16 signings. Maybe half that.

Armando Dobra is something of a throwback, he is positive, exciting to watch, plays with tremendous spirit, but although I enjoy watching him , his end product lacks at first team level , he gets us to the edge of our seat and then some bully knocks him to the floor or he becomes confused..pass or shoot…to play regularly in the first team he needs to be properly coached , for tiny though he is, he has the potential ..but do we have the necessary coaching skills …with someone like Kieron Dyer I would say yes, with our first team “management” trio I have doubts.
As to the previously mentioned acquisition of 16 players, yes there must be doubts…if they all came from Barcelona applause applause…but it seems to an extent of pulling names out of a hat …and that being so the question of coaching again comes to fore …how soon can 16 “ strangers” be coached/ managed to the level that is necessary for success in League One ..and maybe further.

As long as he's happy with it, I think it's not a bad idea short-term because his opportunities might be a bit limited at the moment. As long as we get him back! We don't want to see Dobra go the way of other promising players in the past. I want to see Dobra shine for ITFC and I think he will be a great player in the future with that little bit of extra maturity.

Steve - so why can't he mature here? If he just goes out on loan to another League 1 club what the heck is the point of that?

Monkey Blue - you've probably hit the nail on the head. Cook will stand by his signings and cast aside anyone else who was here before he arrived. If that's the case he's taking a risk.

I see both sides of this.
Perhaps if he could get games and a different coaching experience under someone else's wing, then come back in January a better player, it's not a bad idea. He needs to find the back of the net.

All those saying he should be in the team. Take a mi note to think. So ud put him in ahead of players with championship experience? And as hes pretty much a left sided player ud drop Edward's to fit him in? Hes undoubtedly a decent player with great prospects. But hes far from the finished article. And it does show at times. Too often he just runs and ends up giving the ball away when he should pass the ball. Hopefully a run in a team somewhere will help him improve that. Do think it should only be a loan up till january for now, then see what the situation is then. But for anyone to suggest this isnt a good idea is ridiculous. Fans said that when Downes and woolfenden went on loan. But they both came back better players. And it's likely the fact hes shown a good attitude that has got him the chance to go on loan. Else he may have been gone permanently.

Monkeyblue. U change ur mind every day of the week al ost. Not so long u were moaning we were short of players. Now we only needed to sign half as many as we have done. Get a grip. We lost 24 players. You think signing 8 players would have been enough? Laughable. And you wonder why u constantly get downmarked. U dont give opinions. You just look at every story and find a way to post something negative.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't play for 3 different teams in a season, even if 2 of them are the same team, because you played for someone else in the middle. Isn't this what happened to McGavin last season. He played for us, then went to Scotland and then came back but wasn't eligible to play.

He shouldn't be going on loan at present because we need him. We haven't won a game yet, PC doesn't know his best team and Dobra has done well every time he's played.

Blues1 we were short of players because we'd jettisoned so many. Are you being deliberately obtuse? We didn't need to carpet bombs the squad. There was a point where we'd let 20 players go and couldn't fulfil a preseason U23 game. My point is about new players. BTW think Andre Dozzell lives up the road from me. He was in my local Co-op yesterday morning.

Blues1… you refuse to debate a nuanced position because you don't like the idea that everything you believe is true so twist things other say.

cant see too many of Cooks signings are exactly shining [forgot, they must GEL],certainly no better than Dobra the only one im impressed with so far is Bonne. But Cook wants to play the new lads, be it on his head when things go b##bs up, I think we will end up losing a talented player.

Blues1 are you going to do your usual. Be disingenuous and run away? Please tell me when I've said we needed to get rid of so many players? Man up and admit I have never be inconsistent and maybe we could discuss the point. Until it's pointless debating someone who's dishonest about my position.

Blues1, you say that he could have been gone permanently if his attitude hadn't been right. But that's for him to decide, as he has another 2 years on his contract, I think.

My guess is he may well go to Orient. He's from that neck of the woods, one of his team-mates is already there, ... and it did Macauley Bonne no harm to go there.

Monkeyblue. Sorry but I dont spend all day on here. Theres not 1 player out of those who left that we should have kept. As for calling off an u23 game bcse of that? Where u get that idea? We didnt get rid of any of the u23 squad among that 20. And had we fone, thexteam would simply have been augmented with u18 players. I believe letting dobra go out on loan is a good thing. While hes exciting to watch hes also very naive. So many times when he should pass to a player in a better position, he tries to take on another player and loses the ball. This could hopefully be solved by playing regular football elsewhere. And would u really drop Edward's in order to play him? Going on loan didnt do Downes or Woolfenden any harm. In fact both came back better than before they left. Do think it should only initially be until january tho, just in case we need him back for the 2and half of the season

Dirtydingusmcgee. U clearly not been to any games if thsts ur opinion. Just sitting on here typing based on reports of games and results. We are playing some excellent football. It's just the individual errors that are costing us. And we need to cut them out quickly.

Sharkey yes, if he hadnt shown that attitude I'd guess hed have been made available for a permanent transfer. Not sure what his contract status is. Know some seem to think lge2 not a good idea but if he playing regularly could still help. So yer, orient not a bad shout. Tho maybe wimbledon In lge1 would be better .

This is perfect for Dobbs and perfect for us. He's not going to replace any of the current forwards so game time at another club is what's required. This is a common sense move, not sure why some ain't getting it.

Scuzzer added 19:12 - Aug 25
Prefer him to be in our matchday squad. I think he is better than some brought in on the little evidence so far.

blues1 added 20:07 - Aug 25
Scuzzer. So ud play him instead of edwards? Which is have to as they play the same position? And while hes exciting to watch, he also very naive and needs to learn when to pass to some1 who's in a better position, rather than just keep running and ultimately losing the ball. For all the excitement he may bring with his running at opponents hes not scored nor assisted any goals. A spell away playing week in week out hopefully, may well improve those parts of his game. Certainly a spell away for Downes and Woolfenden did them no harm. Both came back improved players. Would hope it only until January for now tho rather than a season long loan, just in case we need him later.

blues1 he has 4 assists and 2 goals in 1670 minutes of football. He has barely been used and the last couple years have been a joke in terms of goals so it's not that surprising, especially because most of his appearances are in short bursts as a substitute... His return is not bad still. No one said he should replace Edwards, they literally said the opposite which is to play them both at the same time or at the very least keep him on the bench. If he ends up leaving and is replaced by Aluko on the bench, that is the true joke.
