Lambert: Evans Should Tell the Fans What’s Going On
Sunday, 4th Aug 2019 12:00

Boss Paul Lambert has urged Marcus Evans to “tell the fans what’s going on” in relation to the club’s incoming transfer situation, something he says he expects the Town owner to do.

Lambert, Evans and general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill spoke briefly in the stand after yesterday’s win at Burton, with all parties looking pleased following the result and with no sign of any acrimony. Evans and Lambert also met on Friday when the owner was at Playford Road.

“Me and Marcus get on really well, I said to you yesterday, we get on really well,” Lambert said when asked about their post-match chat.

“He’ll say his bit, I say my bit and somewhere we’ll hopefully meet in the middle.

“He’s as frustrated as everybody else that we can’t get players or money’s too high or we can’t get anybody in. He’s frustrated, he’s the owner of the club, it’s his club but, as I said yesterday, the support at the football club is phenomenal, that’s an incredible plus, it’s a brilliant club, it really is, a really brilliant club, the supporters make the club.”

Did they discuss the transfer situation when they spoke on Friday? “It is what it is, you asked me that yesterday. He’s frustrated, I’m frustrated, I don’t like it, maybe he doesn’t like it, it is what it is, we can’t go and buy anybody, simple as, we just can’t do it.

“He’s one owner who has put a helluva lot of money into it and if he’s not got the money to do it, fine, totally fine, but tell the fans what’s going on, which I’m pretty sure he will do.

“Tell the fans because that support there deserves to be kept in the loop about what’s going on, it’s too big a support, it’s too good a support and I think if that happens and everybody’s transparent it’s not a problem.

“But you get frustrated because if we lose James Wilson we have to put a midfielder [Cole Skuse] back to centre-half.

“I’ve got to mix and match when we don’t have players and for the size of the club I don’t think it’s not good. It’s not healthy for a club of this size not having a squad that can sustain maybe 60 games.”

Lambert says there has been no progress on bringing anyone in, while there is no interest in any of his players.

“None, as I stand right now there’s absolutely nothing going out, there’s nothing coming in as it stands right now,” he added.

What are you mumbling on about londontractorboy57
Your comments don't make any sense. Everyone has an opinion especially if it makes sense!
We the fans have no idea what is really happening at boardroom level. Yes our ME has put millions into the club but that is the nature of the game. Its how those millions are used by the management team. Our financial management team don't seem to be doing a particularly good job. Too many bad decisions have cost us large amounts of money. ME must back PL properly or there is no way we will progress. It is glaringly obvious we have to pay big bucks to get in quality players in strategic positions. So ME how about it?!

Can't believe anyone supports Evans and blames PL for this. Some fans would defend anything Evans goes. The £100m figure is nonsense. Someone said his company shares may go down. It's a private company!!!! The money he has lost is purely down to his own stupidity. I would respect him if he swapped the debt for equity but that would need real commitment.

If ME, is o r is not willing to invest in new players in any shape or form? Then the third tier is our new home!
Failing that? padlock the gates up and give the lease back to the council!
It's just too painful to see the club I love fall into such disrepair!
Such a shame, it hurts!!

Obviously Lambert believes the fans and himself deserve better from our very own 'Trojan horse'! Unlike so many on this forum that continually excuse Evans ineptness and subsequent plight of our club!

It's also very apparent Lambert wouldn't give a tuppence if Evans sacked him any time soon! Thanks Lambert for speaking out, top man 👍

Considering Paul Lambert has gone out of his way to try and repair the clubs relationship with the supporters then I think this is the least Evans can do. I think the majority of fans would understand if he came out and said theres no money because of this and that but without that dialogue all we see in £4m in sell on fees coming in and being swallowed.

In terms of our squad I think we only need a couple of players - in terms of quality I don't think anyone else in League 1 can get near us but we need a couple of extra bodies to cover injuries

Yeh right Wooly.....I could have told you what your supposed insider has.
Doesn't need an insider to state the obvious.

I for one am NOT WORRIED about Ipswich Town F.C. - All the debt is Marcus Evan's. If he sold the club tomorrow then that debt would either;

A) have to be partially written off by Evans himself (personally paying £millons himself - which he can easily afford to do)

OR

B) Pass all the debt onto the next Billionaire owner (which Probably wont happen because whoever comes in wont want to service £100million of debt!)

McCarthy was a brown nose. About time we have a manager not content with this B/S nonsense from Evans. Either we invest to move forward or we languish in League One. Paul Lambert will certainly walk if we do not get promotion.

eddiespearitt03 I think PL could be gone by November then we will have a job to fill the position of manager.
Ah well some folk said a spot of relegation would do us some good!!!

In business you have to be acutely aware of what your aims are and just how much it's going to cost you.
In ME's heart he wanted to save the club imo and at the time took a calculated risk to get us quickly promoted back to the premiership. He has thrown money at the club and it's failed because he has appointed the wrong men, he now has a manager who again imo can do just that, but if he then ties the managers hands by depriving him of the means to do so then it will again end in failure.
If you don't set out a a proper procedure and half truth the people you appoint to fulfil those aims then you are just asking for trouble.
Our fan base deserve to be kept in the loop.
If ME has got plans to rid himself of the club, then depending upon the interested parties it could be unfavourable to divulge any interest of those plans thus jeopardising any possible deals.

To be fair it shouldn't have taken a manager basically spelling it out for fans to put pressure on and direct criticism towards Evans, it should have happened years ago. The funds from how many sales has he failed to invest, Creswell, Wickham etc?! Welcome though it is.

Londontractor. If we keep winning PL won't be going anywhere.
And I for one would rather have Joe Bloggs as manager than Mickma any day.

Would be decent of ME to let us in on his true views without any niceties!! Hope he doesn't need to be prompted to do so. We all know things would be different if we didn't say cheerio to MM. But that's done, to some it was a necessity. “That went well” hehe.

If..????? ME says anything ...We will get nothing but bland corperate speak , a vague un-mapped plan that could be written on a fag packet by anybody and nothing else.!! His five point plan is laughable at best , he says nothin in his past intereviews , and quite clearly he has no burning desire to get us up , and has not for some years since he got burnt by RK and PJ as mangers , he is simply minimizing his losses , but even then he wants it back , as he is adding it to the debt , when there is no requirement to to that..he is not giving the club money..he adds it to the debt owed to him...period.! ...ME out...or we never progress.

100% behind Paul Lambert, but everyone seems to be missing something here, Paul has nailed his colours to the mast, spoken out , and Evans aint gonna like that, This looks like the end of the road for PL, Will he now jump or be pushed , wouldnt like to say,but i think this is the end of the road . Bad bad days , another crisis looms .

Full credit to PL. Good timing it on the back of an away win as well, just as ME will be thinking he's going to get away with it.

Evans artfully hoodwinked 12,000 supporters into buying season tickets despite the drop by promising to support Paul Lambert,

He has landed unexpected windfalls would would allow Lambert to compete. This is exactly the time to speculate in order to accumulate. Otherwise I can see an irreversible decline. It's a very poor business decision not to throw a few shekels at getting us back, as the club will be far more valuable.

It really wouldn't surprise me if he sold Judge next week though. After all, he did it with Murphy as the window closed and then did it again with Waghorn at exactly the same destructive point last season.

His anonymity has forced Lambert to take on the role of figurehead of the club and Lambert is clearly fed up with taking everything on himself. Stand up for yourself man and communicate with the supporters and back this club. Let Lambert focus on managing the players.

This doesn't look good. PL saying the right things about hs team and what he reasonably needs get get promotion. ME saying nothing and probably regretting his decision to buy, albeit at considerably less that he would admit.
Fans wanting ME out are fine but who is going to invest?
ME needs to decide what he wants and get on with it. Either sell at heavy discount (just like he did with the banks) or back PL. There's no half way. We need to know as does PL and the players!
If ME can't find a buyer then it is surely better to get the team promoted so it would be a better prospect. That requires skill, investment and commitment. However if he doesn't want the risk then get out now and take his losses like a man.

So how many days until Evans fires him? Discuss.

DirtyDingus has called it right - Managers never outlast Owners; Evans will not approach/inform the fans as if he does, it will (arguably correctly) look like he is doing what Lambert tells him too. All a bit random as surely there's a good bit of dosh slushing around in the wake of Mings and Websters sell-one etc?

Smells like something more sinister to me; I'll wager that Lambert (who probably never dreamed for one minute that he'd be in div 3) has been given the nod from a championship club along the lines of “if so-and-so hasn't worked out by December Paul we'll give you a call” or something like that; then the friction (even if a little artificial) all forms part of the justification that makes Lambert leaving more acceptable and better for his cv.

Seems to me PL is rowing back on his previous comments. Maybe ME reminded him yesterday who is the employer and who is likely to be unemployed if he doesn't toe the line with his attempts to find favour amongst the fans. PL not perhaps as brave as his tongue is reckless?
