Bishop Out for Three Months, Nsiala and Lankester to Miss Start of Season
Thursday, 18th Jul 2019 17:08

Teddy Bishop faces three months on the sidelines with a knee injury, while Toto Nsiala and Jack Lankester will also miss the start of the season due to injury, the club has confirmed.

Bishop twisted his knee awkwardly during the friendly with SV Meppen at the Interwetten Cup and there were fears that the 23-year-old could have suffered a cruciate ligament injury of the type suffered last season by Freddie Sears, Grant Ward and Ben Morris, all of whom are expected to be sidelined for between nine months and a year.

However, it’s been confirmed that the midfielder suffered medial ligament damage and is facing three months out.

“Bish is wearing a brace at the moment and with the injury he has, we are looking at three months or so recovery time,” Town head physio Matt Byard told the club site.

The injury is a blow to Bishop, who had been fit for the longest period since his 2014/15 breakthrough season until Sunday. However, he may to some extent be relieved that the problem isn’t quite as severe as feared.

Nsiala, 27, will miss the first few weeks of the season having torn his hamstring in the Fortuna Dusseldorf game at the Interwetten Cup, while Lankester, 19, has suffered a recurrence of the back problem which saw him absent for the final months of last season.

“Toto tore his hamstring in the game against Fortuna on Sunday and he will certainly miss the first few weeks of the season,” Byard added.

“Jack had a stress fracture of the back over the second half of last season. He has been progressing well and played in the games in Germany but he’s had a bit of a reaction.

“It’s quite common with the type of injury Jack has had to get setbacks along the way. It’s a case of letting things settle down for now but he’s another that won’t be ready for the start of the season.”

This time next season we'll all be saying the same thing if Bishops fit if Huws is fit what a great team we'll have it's not going to happen we need to wipe the slate clean and start again.

Back 4 of Donacien , Ndaba , Wolfenden and Kenlock is what I would have played anyway. Can't possibly be as bad as we were last season.

Well said nobbysnuts. I am sure that Teddy is a nice lad and undoubtably gifted but as he is permanently injured [ unlucky I know ] he needs to consider a career other than football. Sorry but that is the reality of it.

Phil has a template for Bishop injuries, just fills in the blank with the number of months.

He's never going to play football at this level, is he?

Might I suggest everyone postpone the "We should get rid of Teddy" chat until Summer 2021, seeing as whilst he's under contract it's a totally moot point?

Lot of talk about being unlucky with injuries, and while I agree, I just wonder if we are that more injury prone than other clubs? Or is it just the fact that our squad seem so strapped for quality?

@BlueySwede I think every club's fans imagines they're especially unlucky with injuries, but picking up 5-10 new injuries during June/July isn't uncommon. For instance, from 2009 to 2014, Sunderland picked up on average 4 new injuries in June, 5 in July. Stoke, also 4/5 in the same period, Aston Villa 8 in June, 8 in July. Having 3 drop in July isn't that weird, even if we've likely got a smaller squad than those 3 did.

Still keen to ignore reality, I don't blame you Rabbit, it's hideous.
Can I have one shred of evidence that Marcus Evans gives a damn about our precious club and hasn't held two fire sales over the last two summers to reduce his losses? One shred of evidence from the silent and elusive Mr Evans (undoubtedly the most silent of club owners) that he has any ambition for us at all.
Get back to me and don't use EFL rules as an excuse I want evidence that Evans cares.
