Bishop Out for Three Months, Nsiala and Lankester to Miss Start of Season
Thursday, 18th Jul 2019 17:08

Teddy Bishop faces three months on the sidelines with a knee injury, while Toto Nsiala and Jack Lankester will also miss the start of the season due to injury, the club has confirmed.

Bishop twisted his knee awkwardly during the friendly with SV Meppen at the Interwetten Cup and there were fears that the 23-year-old could have suffered a cruciate ligament injury of the type suffered last season by Freddie Sears, Grant Ward and Ben Morris, all of whom are expected to be sidelined for between nine months and a year.

However, it’s been confirmed that the midfielder suffered medial ligament damage and is facing three months out.

“Bish is wearing a brace at the moment and with the injury he has, we are looking at three months or so recovery time,” Town head physio Matt Byard told the club site.

The injury is a blow to Bishop, who had been fit for the longest period since his 2014/15 breakthrough season until Sunday. However, he may to some extent be relieved that the problem isn’t quite as severe as feared.

Nsiala, 27, will miss the first few weeks of the season having torn his hamstring in the Fortuna Dusseldorf game at the Interwetten Cup, while Lankester, 19, has suffered a recurrence of the back problem which saw him absent for the final months of last season.

“Toto tore his hamstring in the game against Fortuna on Sunday and he will certainly miss the first few weeks of the season,” Byard added.

“Jack had a stress fracture of the back over the second half of last season. He has been progressing well and played in the games in Germany but he’s had a bit of a reaction.

“It’s quite common with the type of injury Jack has had to get setbacks along the way. It’s a case of letting things settle down for now but he’s another that won’t be ready for the start of the season.”

There wasn't many hopes to cling onto with the new season around the corner.
But 2 lights, Bish and Lancs won't have had a pre season, and won't be fit to start it.
Lancs injury was serious, and still prone to niggles.
And Bish rapidly turning into a sicknote, again a fairly serious injury which will be prone to niggles along the way.
2 of the best of the younger players we have are out for the foreseeable.
It just gets better.

C'mon Multiple, theres no chance of promotion with this squad. I can see a stuffing at Burton for starters. Cloughie will have them fired up all right.

Bet Ryan Air tried to charge poor Teddy extra for hand luggage for those crutches he had with him on the way home!

This is ridiculous. An internal investigation is required to get to the bottom of all these injuries, season after season.

We might need to steal Liverpool's anthem for some of our players, "You'll Never Walk Alone"

They should start selling Get Well Soon cards in Planet Blue, they'd make a killing!

Ah well a mountain to climb to get out of this Division.
Going to be a long 17 years in Division 3.
Still it was better to be relegated and be rid of Mickma.

i said the other day on here [cant find post now] that Bishop is a tallented player but too injury prone to be relied on ,and so it is proved yet again, 3 months out, We cant afford players like that .

Surely our club can spot frailties and do something more about it. Most so called professional clubs know when to move on a good injury prone player, talented or not. Got to sort this issue now!

Ready Teddy No
Lankester Dive Bomber
Nsialaaaaaaaaarrrrgghhhh!!!
They say these things come in threes, but 3+1 (Alan Judge injured wrist) = 4. So the laws of bad luck go above and beyond the call of duty at ITFC! Meanwhile Grant Hospital Ward and Tom Adaninjuryemi will prob get a near full season in wherever they end up.

Think we have to face facts Bishops never going to be fit his injuries are long term as with Huws they might play the odd game when their injuries settle down but they will always be injured don't know the situation with Grant Wards injury but there might be a case we keep him.

Foolish to let him go. Firstly, I can't imagine he's amongst the highest earners therefore it's not like him staying will eat up finances. Secondly, he's only 23, he has plenty of years ahead of him providing he can be brought back to fitness, which he was for a decent period up until now. Let the 3 months pass, see how his season goes; for all we know he could prove to be one of our key players upon his return considering the clear talent he posseses

FFS. Huge season for Bishop... if fit I think he could be a stand out player this season, so much talent but seems fragile..

Pre season has barely started and already 1/2 the squad seems to be out injured.

Its voodo I tell you.

Dissboy, my understanding is it was because Mick let him live in the midlands so he was driving a stupid amount.... don't why that would cause so many issues but thats what was said

I said to someone earlier all these bad injuries we keep getting is another consequence of Evans doing everything on the cheap. Think about it we always sign players who are not regulars at their clubs so never match fit, they then break down.
There must be something wrong with our training methods or strength and conditioning as it's just not normal these amounts of bad injuries keep getting.

Shock horror! Footballer gets injured playing football!
I bet there isn't another club in the football league that will have a full fit squad on day 1 of the season. We are no more unlucky or lucky than any other club. There will be periods of the season when we have most of our squad fit and periods when we don't...and every other club will be in the same position.
What we do have is a bigger squad than most of the other sides in League 1 so lets appreciate that fact and for Ff...s sake stop moaning . The real season hasn't even started yet. I'm beginning to think Phil that you should add a button so that bwe can filtewr out all those posters (I was going to say fans) who literally spend all their time bloody moaning.

If we are honest, me for one. I saw you this coming as our luck is at level zero. Huws will be next to be ruled out for even longer. Sorry

Sad but not surprising...just hope Lankester doesn't join the regular recruits on the physio's table, don't hold your breath that Evans will recruit on the back of these injuries either. Do feel particularly for Bishop who has been hounded by injuries and was one of a few I felt was genuinely putting some effort in when he did play last season.

Here we go again, Unbelievable 3 players who I would of started for the first game of the season.
Will our luck ever change

You really do have to question the wisdom of pre-season tournaments. What do they really achieve and there is always a risk that something like this would happen.

By the time Colchester and Cambridge have kicked us around a bit there will be no one fit to turn out at Burton.
